I don't think Animatrix has gotten a 4k release or a stand alone blu release. It's kind of treated terribly when it comes to home video or HD.

Yes this is a major annoyance I currently have with Warners/AT&T and bring it up incessantly anytime HBO Max or live action The Matrix quadrilogy are mentioned.

Animatrix got a stand alone bluray release.

It also has a VHS release :leon
https://www.amazon.com/Animatrix-Blu-ray-Keanu-Reeves/dp/B002UYEP0A/ref=tmm_blu_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1605407953&sr=1-3

Yeah I guess it did. Doesn't look easy to get though. It's probably on those Matrix film packs too. Either way, with the blu ray and now 4k I end up buying the movies individually.

4K or bust you plebs.

Animated scifi perfection deserves no less.

Speaking of, I think I saw Joe watched Magnetic Rose a few weeks ago, I have a lot of thoughts on that/Memories which I'll be posting soon. :) Just watched it for the first time recently too.

Saw Pom Poko the other day, and wasn't really into it. Probably my least favorite Ghibli film, I guess this was because the director wasn't Miyazaki...? Didn't like the narrator, some of the elements were a little off-putting (though smothering cops to death with giant tanuki ballsacks is pretty funny), plot seemed to meander a bit, and it felt like it took forever.

Animatrix is the only valid sequel to The Matrix.

I liked the one about the runner whose mind-body connection was so strong he woke up for a second or two. Idk. I hate short stories I guess.

I feel like Blade Runner Black Out 2022 was the only movie-anime tie-in that I like completely. They should have shown that in theatres in front of Blade Runner 2049.

Batman Gotham Knight only had one good story too, the one where he sees the guru so he can ignore pain.

Was reading a bit on the Lord of the Rings Ultra HD set coming out next week and word is Weta scanned the original camera negative independent of the VFX elements and recomposited them all in a new 4K digital intermediate.

:leon

Would be possibly the first time I've heard of this happening for an Ultra HD release, where usually studios will upscale from the original 2K digital intermediate if it was originally mastered at that resolution. The release also appears to have a more natural color grade from some off-screen photos.

Edit: what the Christ... 150-180GB per film in the Extended cuts. So with only 30-45 minutes more footage it's a doubling of the size in some instances compared to the Theatrical cuts. I'm very curious the image quality differences now.

They're doing 'the thing' where you release placeholder footage, get a bunch of free press over the outrage of how bad it looks, then come back later with the finished product and then they get a new round of free press praising how much better it looks.

The King of Staten Island - Was generally good & human. I think it might've been a not great decision to have the main character be so unlikeable. It's tough for movies to pull that off and be entertaining and great throughout if the lead, for drama reasons, is a very unlikeable person. I'd put it on the lower run of Apatow films, but still worth watching.

Mildly interested in seeing how Bill Burr does, but Judd Apatow's formula is insufferable for me, and i was already fed up with his faux down-to-earth sentimentality from the trailer, tbh.

Eh, I like all of Apatow's films. They hit that real nice comedy + human drama spot and feel like actual good films that make you laugh a bunch and get the feels. They're not 10/10 perfects, but they're good movies imo. I really liked Knocked Up/Trainwreck.

I haven't seen This is 40 though. I should watch it at some point even if the reviews aren't amazing for that one. I like Paul Rudd and I'm gonna be 40 soon so it's relevant.

I've never seen Burr's standup and the movie roles he's in have just been ok? I mean he's fine here, but nothing really stood out.

The IMDB autisty's have already corrected everything  :mynicca

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0680983/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

I mostly went to check on IMDB to see what he did between Inception and The Umbrella Academy because I could only remember X-Men but that seems to have been the biggest film for the past decade or so.
Vanya in The Umbrella Academy is kinda flat as a character next to a bunch of fun characters like Number 5, Hazel and Klaus despite having such a big role in the story.

I wonder how he's going to handle the character if there's a 3rd season. With all the super natural time travel stuff going on it shouldn't be too hard to write this into the story.

After Inception I really expected his career to take off but somehow it didn't.

The Vast of Night - This felt a bit overrated. People said it was a great sci-fi film and a great Amazon original film. It's...ok. There's like no budget so not much occurs, and it's not very original and been done a ton of times before. The style is good and the two leads put in a good performance, but yeah was pretty skippable and did not live up to any hype.

Plus as an adult

spoiler (click to show/hide)
traditional UFO movies are dumb because the science is so bad.

Sci-fi Alien movies are fine, but the big round spaceships taking people away only work in comedies like South Park; can't take them seriously in a serious sci-fi film anymore.

Hard Candy is a pretty fucking great Page film.

Also if you want to see Page actually putting some effort in on a cape film, Super starring Dwight from the Office is riffing on some of the same beats Kick Ass did, and has a Page performance that's like the polar opposite of their lowkey vanya from TUA.

FYI this is the same writer-clawback legal mechanism currently at the heart of the Friday the 13th court case, and I have a lot of thoughts/news on that I'm gonna post shortly too.

Basically it seems to me Victor Miller, the original writer of the first movie, will prevail in appeals court against Sean Cunningham (director and producer of the first and several other movies in the franchise.) Which means whoever currently has the rights (I think maybe Warner Bros.?) will have to pay Miller a fair cut in order to move forward on production of a new movie -- which I have no doubt they will, and then life will go on as normal (hopefully.) (There's a scenario they skirt around Miller's rights by using elements originating in the second and later movies, like the whole Ruby Slippers/Silver Slippers thing in Wizard of Oz adaptations, but they'd have to retcon or revise at least a little to get Jason working without Crystal Lake, his mother, or even possibly his own name.)

Books or movies? I assume this is just about the movie rights?

Because when it comes to Clive Barker movies, he doesn't have a good track record. That latest anthology got shredded in reviews.

Wish someone would just make another good Hellraiser movie. I don't think Barker even needs to be involved, just someone with decent talent. I didn't love that latest Halloween, but I'd be more than happy for a new Hellraiser entry at that quality.

This is about the Hellraiser movie rights, specifically the rights of the screenplay. I would imagine Barker always had authorship control over his written works but I wouldn't know.

Specifically, this law: https://www.copyright.gov/docs/203.html
