fuck that looks awesome

it's gonna be hard to hold out for the lvl 30 extension pack before I play it.  Don't want to waste experience like I did with the last one.

I wish the game was better at being creepy/scary. I went down Vault 106(?) the one down near Springvale and the game clearly is trying to give off a scary creepy vibe. And it kind of fails.

ESPECIALLY when suddenly there's a purple hue over the screen and people are disappear/reappearing. It's pretty lame to be honest.

Right now I have to Vault 87 to get a GECK. Probably gonna slow down and do some side stuff. I still have to find the Android and do find Lucy West's brother.

Will probably also go down into the other vaults too. I'm guessing they arent all like 106.

OH yeah, I got the radio transmission from Amata in 101 and did the mission there. I ended it with telling them they should stay and stop the hostilities. How different could I have done that?

I don't think creepy goes with the overall humorous tone of the game.

I actually thought the game was really creepy until I was able to kill enemies in one or two shots.  First time you walk around the wasteland is a bit scary, especially if you didn't read up on the game like me.

Finished the main quest earlier today. Was kind of a boring ending.

Most the fun I'm having comes from what I liked the most of STALKER. Walking around a wasteland doing menial tasks for people.
I'm really glad I had a save before the ending mission because the first thing I did was reload it.

At this point I just threw on god mode and will now spend my time doing the rest of the side quests wearing the duster trench coat I got from those dudes who want me to collect fingers from bad guys. Makes me feel like a cowboy  8)

I just started playing this game and I've been getting slaughtered. It seems like everything takes a million hits to die, and I don't have enough ammo to spare. And when I do kill someone I barely get any XP, and barely any loot to sell for more ammo/health. I just want to explore and do some dialog trees.

Also there's this annoying glitch in Megaton. I tell the sheriff about Burke wanting to blow up the town and he's all like "Follow me to see some real wasteland justice hurrhurr". And when Burke pulls his weapon on the sheriff I always Vats him and shoot him up pretty good before he can get a shot off. At this point I expect the sheriff to turn around and help me take this asshole out, but he just keeps walking away. So it takes me a few shots to kill Burke, and when I do kill him I turn around and the sheriff is gone. Then when I leave the bar as soon as the outside loads the sheriff loads right next to me and drops dead to the ground. This happens every time. So I finally said fuck it and stopped telling the sheriff about Burke's plans. Now I'm in an abandoned subway searching for the source of giant flamethrowing ants that are kicking my ass. And they don't drop any good loot when they die and my ammo keeps dwindling. I want to go back to the vault, fuck my dad why did he have to leave.  :'(

How can the questing/traversing be any good if there is no challenge? You're playing the idiot card more and more Fistfull.

the experience of walking around the world is where the fun comes from. Going places, exploring, going through dialogue trees with the patrons, bartering, selling, etc etc all of that is really great.

Having to deal with the shitty FPS action or the equally shitty Vats crap detracts from that. So when you remove it, you're left with the fun. Sure sometimes you have to point your mouse on an enemy and hold the fire button down for a little bit, but that's a heck of a lot more fun than actually having to fight him.

I just started playing this game and I've been getting slaughtered.

I had a similar first experience with the game and didn't like it.  I ended up throwing away a few hours of progress and creating a new character with no Charisma or Luck because both are useless and instead concentrated on high Perception, Intelligence, small guns, sneak, lockpick.

That way I get useful red markers on the compass and I can sneak up and get criticals without having to rely on luck.  I have lots of APs to use in VATS (because I found FPS mode is garbage), and the high Intelligence means when you level up you get lots of points to distribute.  Specialising in small guns means you'll have plenty of ammo and being able to steal all over the place means lots of money and a guaranteed evil disposition which gives you great options throughout the game.

And if you want to suddenly be good, just donate some money or something.

WTF?  Charisma and Luck are both important, smh.  Luck gives a bonus to all skills and charisma governs speech and barter.

In my opinion the skill point bonuses you get from SPECIALS are not a good reason for upping them since there's ample opportunity to receive skill points from levelling up (especially if your intelligence is high), bobbleheads, and the occasional items.  What's more important is the other effects

And in terms of other effects I find both to be pretty useless.  Luck ups your criticals such that Luck of 1 = 1% critical chance and Luck of 10 = 10% chance.  So it doesn't make much difference and if you can sneak, you have 100% critical hits so luck is largely irrelevant.

The only thing Charisma affects is others' disposition towards you.  With a Charisma of 1 I haven't noticed any difference in how people talk to me compared to when it was 7 with my old character.  My barter and speech are high anyway so I don't have a problem in those areas.

I much preferred to put my SPECIAL points towards Intelligence to get more skill points during levelling up, Agility to get more APs, and Perception to get more useful compass markers, and then a bit to Strength and Endurance to get a little more carrying capacity and health.

All I really raised was my Strength (by one) and pumped 2 into Luck. Luck seems to be the best in that you get this skewed in your favor. Plus the alien explosion random encounter that nets you that alien gun.

I finally helped put a stop to those fireants tonight. I somehow found the scientist dude even though I didn't explore a whole branch in the tunnels and he needed my help killing five hive queen guardians. I killed the fifth guardian with my final bullet. I got a wicked headshot on it. I don't know what I would have done if that hadn't killed it. I looked in the chamber of the fireant queen and saw what looked like a dude in a suit or a robot or something running around like a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow in there but then the queen starting spitting hunks of green shit at me so I ran back to the doctor and told him it was safe again without exploring further. Was anything of interest in that back chamber?

So then I went up to boy thinking it would be mission complete, but I told him I wouldn't feel right if I couldn't find him a home. So now I have to find some place called Rivet City and see if his cousin will take his worthless ass in. It really should have been a whole new quest and not a continuation of the fireants quest.

There's a few bits and pieces in the queen chamber useful for making custom weapons and maybe a skill book but I can't really remember.  I think the main thing is getting the perk from the doctor which you've already done.

The game doesn't have a huge quantity of missions but sometimes they go on for a while which is good.  I kind of like the long missions.

Damnit, I went back and told him that I'd clubbed the thing to death. There's one failed Perk.

Don't get too riled up about Rivet City; you'll have to go there for other reasons anyway, and it's not like it forces an escort mission or anything.

There was a computer in there that had logs of a raider plan to bust into my vault. :omg Gonna have to deal with that problem.

Shotguns really do make a huge difference.  I found explosives a great complement to small guns so when I'm in real trouble I can run away like a girl (which I am actually) while dropping mines. 8)

There's a sweet shotgun you can get during the Nuka Cola Challenge (actually a cool hockey mask too which gives you more AP).

I had been carrying a stupid amount of mines around FOREVER until I met my first group of super mutants on the way to Rivet City. Very little has been as satisfying as sending a few of those bitches into the air with the mines I'd laid along my intended retreat path. Now it seems smarter to just drop them as I bail... :-)

Dropping mines while running for your life and hearing them go off behind you is pretty damn satisfying.  It's the main way I deal with those flippin' deathclaws.

I believe the only way is to finish it is with a negative karma hit.  You could get Susan Lancaster killed during the Tenpenny Tower quest which would mean you don't have to enslave her and take the karma hit, but I don't think you can get around enslaving the other three because your only options are to enslave them or kill them yourself.  I think you have to return at least one slave alive to get the experience.

Deathclaws are easy as pie if you build the dart gun. It makes them into demi's practically disabled from the waste down. Which mean shotgun time to the face!

I forgot I dont have to use the same save in order to continue the game. So I'm gonna do the slavers quest then restart from before and killem all. As I'm just trying to get the achievements

So I'm hanging around by the Lincoln Memorial waiting for Hannibal and his crew to show up so I can start kicking the shit out of slavers. If I go off and do some shit while waiting can I just show up later and they'll be there waiting around for me or will they try to storm the place without me getting themselves killed?

I just killed the slavers then did a bunch of other shit until they finally made it to the memorial

Fortunately I played through the full game on the PC. There was a couple of times where Quest NPCs would be battling with an enemy and die. I would be able to res them. This happened to me when I was playing it on the 360, it was just Wolfgang though, who sells crappy junk that I accrued throughout the game anyways.

I just briefly returned to this the other day as well. I'd been avoiding it because there are a couple games with online play that I'm pretty sure is going to DISAPPEAR soon (Saints Row 2, LIPS) and I'm sure I'm still at the beginning of Fallout 3. I finished the Replicated Man and got the neato blaster rifle. I hope I can find repair items for that thing, because I plan to use it a lot. GREEN GOO.

It always feels like I've got a meager amount of room to store stuff before my weak ass is OVERLOADED/ENCUMBERED. Where can I buy one of those sweet bovoids the traders have? Or get one of those sexy, loudmouthed raiders fitted with ponygirl gear and some saddlebags? I want to be HUMONGOUS, the AYATOLLAH of ROCK-and-ROLLAH from The Road Warrior, and I need a filthy, scummy, but somehow sexy cohort to roll with.

Anyway, armor at 15 wt. units a pop tends to get heavy quickly, even if I stack the repairs and make one nice set of heavily duct-taped together armor. Am I doing it right?

I tend to drag Clover with me for pack mule duties, I took the +50 carrying capacity perk, and I wear something light like leather armour.  I carry about 55 units of stuff normally.  That's the best I've come up with.

What I would give for another 100 units of capacity though. :'(

So The Pitt isn't straight forward all out shooty stuff and more questing/exploring? Hm, might get it depending on the price.
