The luffy knowing is a bit weird but whitebeard not wanting to send ace was even weirder to me (giving how he acted when Shanks asked for Ace's retreat)

can't wait for luffy to appear, its gonna be all out fucking madness. :rock

it's not the twist that bugs me -- i'm all "whatEVAH" about that -- it's luffy's and ace's childhood timeline.

it goes like this?

- ace is born to rouge portgas (who then dies), she gives him to garp at roger's behest?
- garp stashes the baby somewhere for a decade-ish?
- luffy's mom has luffy after dragon has run off, gives baby luffy to garp?
- garp introduces a 12-13? year old ace to a 9-10? year old luffy, who now has the straw hat and scar?
- now they are brothers? they spend 3-4 years together getting trained by garp? ace eats a devil fruit at some point?
- ace bails to be a pirate at age 17, luffy is 14 because he says he has 3 more years?
- luffy leaves at age 17?

WAT

WHERE THE FUCK IS LUFFY'S MOM (SHE IS NOT MAKINA)

HOW DOES GARP HAVE THE TIME TO RAISE TWO KIDS BY HIMSELF AS A MARINE VICE-ADMIRAL

WHY DID HE KEEP THEM SEPARATED FOR SO LONG

also the "ace trying to kill whitebeard before loving him" thing seems forced

There's been a couple vague references to a guy named "Dadan", who I suppose is Garp's friend and the person he entrusted Luffy and Ace to.

I really hope Shanks and Mihawk aren't users.

Shanks' being able to rumble one on one with Whitebeard without being a user would be DAMN impressive and Mihawk being a user would make Zoro's training useless.

Silvers rayleigh isn't a df user and he stopped kizaru cold

Will of d/king's haki trumps df powers, so it's probably a safe bet shanks and mihawk aren't df users

oh wow so his crew are also fruit users? somewhat disappointing  :'(

but this should have been obvious given the blackbeard story about the crew hunting for DFs and the rule of "who finds it, owns it"

but the use of df's in this series continues to be awesome due to the "balance" it seems to have.

I dunno man. Whitebeard is the strongest dude in the world. Why expect his crew to not have Devil Fruit Users, especially given how many crewmates he has?

People who don't have any power like Mihawk, Shanks, Zoro and Sanji are rare it seems, especially as you get closer to the new world. You need a devil fruit to survive it seems. People that are naturally uncanny in their strength like Garp, well...those guys are the exception.

Zoro is going to fight Diamond Man. Just watch. At the end of the Mr. 1 fight, they bring up this very subject.

I get that but it felt cooler if it was their pure skill, oh well, got to do what you can i suppose.

Given what happened to the strawhats when they were not even near to the new world i can see the temptation.

Now it brings the question if Whitebeard had the DF when he fought Roger those years ago?

Good question. I'm sure he was, it seemed like he and Sengoku hadn't spoken to each other in years but it seemed to me that Sengoku has fought with WB many many times, and the only time I can really think of that occurring is during the time when he (WB) and Roger were rivals.

But this begs the question. What the hell was Roger's power, if he had one? I'm sure it had to be something as amazing as WB's.

roger has the "will of d" and/or the king's haki, like garp and luffy and shanks and silvers rayleigh do, and that power can cancel out df powers (as per amazon lily). there's some suggestion that zoro and mihawk also have that ability. rayleigh stopped kizaru cold, and rayleigh admits he'd lost a lot of his power. roger was probably :-O

I don't remember haki ever cancelling a df power. We've only seen it in action a few times: Shanks scaring away the sea king who bit off his arm, Amazon Lily, Blackbeard vs Luffy, arguably Zoro using Ashura against Kaku since he was able to predict his move, Rayleigh vs Kizaru.

haki is basically "fighting spirit" according to oda, like super-chi -- it's a pure expression of a true warrior's power and cancels the "impure" power of the devil fruit when they clash (although apparently the two can be used in conjunction ala luffy and whitebeard and CP9 and boa hancock + sisters). the chicks on amazon lily said the same thing, and then the old bint said some people of a certain disposition or lineage, like luffy, have the "king's haki," which is what rayleigh used to wipe out the auction house and shut down kizaru.

I still think Blackbeard will be like, the main antagonist in the series. He probably has haki if Luffy does, since they're so damn similar. Maybe that's why he was able to do that to Shanks?

they are showing that BB is strong already and hes constantly holding back until the time is right.

Remember its insinuated that BB got his DF some time ago and not a lot of people knows what it is.

not sure about soru but mantra seems to be similar since one of the snake sister's predicted luffy's attacks for a while.

So it could be a part of the ability know as haki. And with skypei being so isolated they wont know if its the same.

Anime News Network has been informed that there will be an announcement tomorrow regarding the "One Piece streaming/simulcast."

FUNimation Entertainment planned to start online simulcast streaming of One Piece on May 30, with episode 403, which they aimed to make available within one hour of the Japanese broadcast. However the simulcast was quickly canceled after episode 403 was leaked and distributed online illegally more than a day before the Japanese broadcast.

Other titles affected by the leak have since returned to Funimation's online streaming services. However, Funimation has yet to restore the streams of One Piece. Episode 413 was broadcast in Japan on August 16.
