bunch of indie games for 10bux.  No clue if they're any good or not, though.

No clue either, but for $10 (or $2 each) it's not much of a gamble. If nothing else you get Space Giraffe, and I think it used to be $20 by itself. :lol Jeff Minter probably cuts himself every time you buy it for $2.

Played the Bob comes in pieces or w/e demo, thought it was really fun, then the Altitude demo, which was alright.  No demo for Space Giraffe on Steam, but the XBLA demo seemed...something.  Enough to sell the Indie game pack to me.

Bob comes in pieces reminds me of Banjo Nuts and Bolts a bit

Can it play all games or is it just for those source/mac games?

Steam with just Valve games, Warcraft 3, and Marathon would still be cool.

I copy and pasted the steam and the document folders from my old PC to my new PC and so far there haven't been any issues for me.

btw, they announced Shatter is coming to Steam.  If you didn't know, Shatter is that breakout style PSN game where you could alter the curve of the ball.  Was a really fun game and they mentioned they want to bring it out as many places as possible, so maybe XBLA as well.

How could it play all games? Its on mac.

Im thinking this could have something to do with the Ipad maybe.

As long as you have an Intel-based Mac they can use the Cider wrapper that EA uses to make ALL Steam games run on the Mac.

Hmmm...when I upgraded to W7, it kept all my XP directories under Windows(old).  Anyway I can copy the game folders over and get them to load in Steam?

The entire pack deal is great.  Too bad I already got the Hitman pack before during a sale.

Might grab both Deus Ex for $10.  Does Deus Ex run under W7?

Valve announced today it will bring Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac.

Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April.

"As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients," said Gabe Newell, President of Valve. "The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services."

"Our Steam partners, who are delivering over a thousand games to 25 million Steam clients, are very excited about adding support for the Mac," said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve. "Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge. For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play."

"We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, Director of Steam Development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."

Portal 2 will be Valve's first simultaneous release for Mac and Windows. "Checking in code produces a PC build and Mac build at the same time, automatically, so the two platforms are perfectly in lock-step," said Josh Weier, Portal 2 Project Lead. "We're always playing a native version on the Mac right alongside the PC. This makes it very easy for us and for anyone using Source to do game development for the Mac."

They really need to make FFXI free to play or lower the monthly cost to like $5 a month at this point.  I would definitely hop on and give it a shot if my total amount spent for 50-60 hours of gaming was <$60.

I maaaay hop on with FFXIV though since I missed the FFXI train and have never played an MMO.

Kosma, how much fun can you have in 30 days with FFXI if you aren't going to play it hardcore?  So maybe the first 20-30 hours of the game?

I'm debating if I should just buy it for $7.50 and quit within the first 30 days, just to have tried FFXI and seen what it's like.

The Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2 runs on the updated Orange Box build of the Source Engine, whereas the PC version still just runs on the old 2004 build. There was a rumor that Valve would release a patch to add the updates to the PC version, but that never happened. Presumably the scrapped that idea in order to spend the next 10 years working on Episode 3.

no they are still working on it

Quote
Justin: All right. Many people are still wandering about the extra content provided to 360 owners that PC owners have gone without, mainly being the engine update and achievements for Half-Life 2 and Episode One. I think that originally people expected this because somewhere floating in the forums somebody had a screenshot of an email supposedly from you saying that, and this was shortly after the Orange Box release, where somebody noticed that “hey my 360 version looks different from my PC version”. So I don’t know if that was true in the first place or where that stands now.

Gabe: It’s something we said we would do and something we intend to do. We just need to find...you know there are trade-offs, right, spending time getting the engine enhanced and also doing commentary for Half-Life 1. One request I get a lot is having commentary tracks back on the original Half-Life. So, we’d like to do it. We just have to fit into a schedule when we also feel a lot of pressure to do Counter-Strike Source updates and do more Left 4 Dead content. It’d be a tough call, getting a new monster or new special infected out for Left 4 Dead 1 versus getting the engine updates out for the original Half-Life 2. You know we can look at that and see right now that a lot more people are playing Left 4 Dead than are playing Half-Life 2 and we know that if we actually did the updates a lot more people would play Half-Life 2 so it’s just a balancing act. But it is something we said we’re going do and we’ll get around to doing it. It’s just managing all of the things that people would like us to do, all of which we want to do.
