It's actually a pretty decent show.  The best part of the first episode was the Simba moment.

I think those guns are buckshots? A non direct hit probably won't be fatal (same thing happened to Cheney and his buddy a couple of years ago).

I thought he got partially sprayed in the face. Though I'm not sure on that.

On another note, I finished Season 4 of LOST a couple of hours ago. SHEEEIIIITTTTT.

For what it's worth I finished of Season 5 the other day, and found it a great deal better than Season 4.  S4 had too many subplots and felt so meandering, whereas everything in S5 is much more tightly interwoven.  I enjoyed the way things at the Baltimore Sun paralleled or contrasted the way things happened within the homicide department or in the mayor's office.  I am pretty pissed about the way things ended with Omar.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
He really didn't have a place on the show anymore anyway, so why even bother bringing him back just to kill him off like a punk?
[close]
It's a shame Marlo gets so little attention from the writers, because the few bits he got that year were actually pretty decent.  For some reason my favorite characters of the season were Snoop and Clay Davis :lol

Again I feel like the show loses dramatic effect as a result of its formula.  Since it's the last season you kinda hope that there will be some kind of victory, but ultimately you know that the bad guys are gonna win because that's how it has so consistently happened in years prior.

In retrospect I guess Season 2 was only frustrating because you wanted to get back to the Barksdale case and the writers refuse to do so (plus it took literally 3/4 of the season before McNulty got materially involved).  I look forward to revisiting S2 if the show ever sees a BluRay release or something, because I can't fairly determine how it'd rank in my mind.  Other than that.....S1 > S3 > S5 > S4

S5...better than S4?  ???

Marlo had one of the best endings in S5 imo. Omar..
spoiler (click to show/hide)
In many ways it was apt that he would get killed by a nobody, and then have his body mis-labeled at the coroner's office. No one is bigger than the corner/streets, it's a revolving door. I liked how the last episode showed various characters stepping into vacated shoes of characters from S1 (Michael essentially becoming a new Omar, Leander taking McNulty's place, etc).
[close]

anyway I'm still re-watching Lost so I can be up-to-date for S5. I'm kinda stuck on S3. I'll try to watch some episodes tonight but eh, I remember why I didn't like the first half of this season. The show kinda eggs you on from mystery to mystery, but as the world gets bigger the mysteries become smaller, at least to me.

Watched a couple episodes of season 3 of Star Trek: TNG. The first was "Captain's Vacation" where Picard goes on vacation, makes out with a woman, and punches a Ferengi. It was super-cheesy from start to finish, laughably so, but still fun to watch I suppose. The other was "Sins of the Father" where Worf goes back to the Klingon home world after his deceased father is branded a traitor to the empire. It was, for a nice change of pace, super-awesome, and gave a lot of insight into the workings of Klingon society and honor system. Plus, you can't go wrong with having Picard get into a fist-fight in the middle of a street with some Klingon thugs.

Man, Modern Family is fucking great.

5 minutes into the second episode:

"In my culture, men take great pride in physical labor."
"I know, that's why I hire people from your culture."
"Haha you're too funny. I'm going to share that with my next husband when we're spending all your money."

I'm the only one who thought the seasons got worse each year.

S1 > S2 > S3 > S4 > S5

I thought Season 1 was brilliant because it broke down the various roadblocks Daniels and Co. had to knock down to get a simple wiretap.  Plus it did a good job fleshing out the characters, which was vital to how the rest of the show played out.

Season 2 was the next best because it had McNulty in a limited role.  I have to admit I simply did not give a fuck about his character as time went on.  It was almost bizarro-emo: why did I have to give a fuck that he was making a wreck of himself because of what was going on?  The Shield was much better than The Wire in the sense that the characters were more interesting.  I cared why Vic did the things he did.  McNulty?  I couldn't care less.  The amount of post Season 1 McNulty negatively affected the rest of the seasons.  Strangely enough, I liked the character at first but he became dead weight.  I also liked the union plot.  I wished they had fleshed it out more in further seasons but I'm in the minority here but I did like the little nods to S2 here and there for S3-S5.  That and Brother Mouzone :bow2

Season 3 was ok because I thought the Barksdale arc was taking too long to conclude.  I did like how they rolled out the Stanfield arc and the political angles in general.  The downside was that the police angle was unraveling in terms of the watertight logic they employed in S1.  This logic would only further unravel as the show went on but it was clear here that the show crossed the Rubicon into zaniness that the show was supposed to be against (and still was, except the police stuff).

Season 4 had the sole advantage of the Barksdale arc no longer being in the way (except for the nods here and there, which I liked) and I did like the school angle but that was it.  McNulty was simply not necessary here.  I cared even less about what went on with him and the convoluted angles the plot took to still consider him a crucial character.  I did like Stanfield doing what he did but the characters were less interesting than the Barksdale world.  The police politics were completely ridiculous.

Season 5 was the worst.  The newspaper thing was a joke.  McNulty?  Joke.  The police politics made the full-on press into insanity yet the show still tried to take itself seriously.  The show had good writing but the plot lines were such a jumbled mess.  Although I did think the show had a pretty decent conclusion, wrapping things up the best way it could.

the ending of the wire was so awesome because it was clearly a nod to Bridge on the River Kwai, which McNulty mentions in the very first episode.

That certainly is a weird and unpopular opinion. S3 and S4 were the best imo, closely followed by S1. Then S2. S5 was still good, but the worst of the bunch.

This. Although sometimes I feel S2>S1. S2 has an amazing middle/end but it starts pretty slow with lots of "hey remember the cool stuff we did in S1? Yea that was fun, I wish we could do something like that again...nah I'm working in this dimly lit basement filing papers" talk

I just started watching The Wire finally.  It's pretty damn good.

"You know when why I like you is because when it came time to fuck me, you were gentle."

"..I knew it was your first time, I wanted to make it special."

No other show that I've seen has so much chemistry between the characters.

Yeah Curb finale was the tits. Beautifully done.

You should all watch John Safran's Race Relation. Download it off torrents, it's AMAZING. So far among other things he's rifled through the Pussycat Dolls' dressing room in order to secure Nicole Whatsherface's used panties, made out with four of his ex-girlfriend's mothers and gone blackface in the US.

I was pretty impressed with how easily everyone slipped right back into their roles, especially Jason Alexander. It was probably because I was high, but for the first 15 or 20 seconds of Larry watching Seinfeld at home I honestly wasn't sure if it was supposed to be the reunion episode or just one from the later seasons of the series that I had forgotten about :lol

Just finished the first season of Mad Men. Minor anachronisms aside, that was some great TV.

My bitching, because who wants to hear boring praise:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
-I realize today's health concerns surrounding cigarettes weren't nearly as prevalent back then, but the smoking still seems a little excessive. Am I wrong?
-Draper's wife is a neurotic cunt bag. Yeah, I know, housewife syndrome, etc. It's all very well done, but I still can't stand her
-I wish Campbell wasn't such a detestable heel. They did a great job with casting, because the actor really looks the part of a slimy douchebag
-Some of the supporting characters are exceedingly dull. I'd name who, but they're so vapid and boring that I didn't catch their names. Glasses Guy, Amateur Writer Guy, Pipe-smoking Guy, and so on. Maybe I'm just not the most perceptive person. I do like Salvatore and Joan
-Cooper is a Randroid :lol
-Peggy's big reveal. This doesn't count as bitching because I am not sure what to make of it yet, but I wanted to mention it anyway. I guess I'll have to wait and see where they go with it

Pretty much the regular criticisms/thoughts. I can't disagree with most of them.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- Although, I'm pretty sure the smoking is not overdone, at all.
- Betty never progresses past spoiled-brat stage.
- As am nintenho said, Campbell becomes more likable.
- The further you go along, the more you'll notice that those three supporting characters in particular are just kinda there. They almost only serve as plot devices in more prominent characters' lives, especially "Amateur Writing Guy".
- lol yeah
- I think they handle it well.

oh yeah, I looked up the smoking rates for that time period and smoking in the US peaked in 1955 at about 50% and this show takes place just a few years after that.  Plus they work in a high-stress environment and they get free cigs from their Lucky Strikes contract so it makes sense that they're all chimneys.  They privately acknowledge away from Lucky Strikes executives that it's a very unhealthy habit though.
