Almost done Jack Ryan - not as good as season one but still entertaining.  Also, I guess they can't use Clark as he's getting his own movies.

edit:  the plot is super over the top, especially the end.  It's like the plot to a rainbow 6 game.

saw an episode of Room 104 last night. Really cool show, with a cool premise. Every episode has a different unrelated plot, by a different director, and oftentimes in different genres, but the setting is always the same hotel room. At least the episode I saw was very good.

Yeah, he's different by LEAPS and BOUNDS from how he was presented in Sandman. I've always meant to read the comic, but never got around to it. The show, he's mostly an egocentric, lovable goof, and the chemistry is pretty good between the key players.

I WANT to be watching The Expanse, esp. now that Amazon freakin' owns it, but it's not on Japanese Amazon Prime Streaming, nor on the site at all. I can buy a DVD of s3, but I haven't finished s2 yet.

The Affair is done.
What a fascinating trainwreck of a final episode, final season and overall show.
I'd really like to sit down with the writing team on this one, and try and decipher how you can write such nice characters and moments, next to some of the worst crap you'll see.

I'd put it below Game of Thrones, in terms of finale, but still better than Lost and, *holy trinity hand gesture* Penny Dreadful, which still detains the worst fall off of a show i've ever witnessed.

I'm trying to finish American Gods S2. Not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, Ian McShane is amazing in everything and on the other, the pacing is just so glacial that I'm losing interest during episodes.

I actually listened to the audio book (not the full cast version) a few years ago. Loved it and it's been fun watching it on screen, but fuck they should have made it one season, not two.

Yeah, and another unfortunate aspect is probably "We have to show how we're different from the movie that bombed!" Even though the movie was kinda OK (though, utterly pointless without the ending...)

I skipped S2 when production announced that season 2 was going to suck. Did they at least get the House on the Rock stuff right? I’d imagine Fuller left behind some pretty detailed ideas for that so it should’ve been as close to a slam dunk as the tire fire could get.

Mrs. Coulter is perfect (watch the second episode!). McAvoy is the obvious weak link so far, but maybe he’s just waiting to turn up the dial on the moral ambiguity. We know he has it in him.

After two episodes, I’m kind of in love with the show though. I was afraid it might be too HBO and not enough BBC... that HBO’s side of the coproduction would be more interested in making something only targeted at adults.

You know, it was so long ago that I watched the first episode of the season that I can't even remember it well enough to say. I don't recall being impressed enough to remember it so I'd say that speaks volumes.

watched the first two episodes. I never saw the movie or read the books, but reading the synopsis of the movie, it seems they follow the same plot with little deviations from the source material, is that a good assessment? I like it btw.

Both this season and the movie cover the first book, so the plot will be the same. The movie changed stuff but it’s been so long that I can’t recall what. Looking at Wiki, the last three chapters of the book were cut from the movie, so there’s that. The movie is also filled with exposition, as is the style with fantasy media, whereas the show has more of an ineffable sense of discovery to it. You know, it feels like you’re learning about the world rather than being told about it. (But it’s still a kiddie show so there’s exposition for the underdeveloped.)

I'm laughing so hard at this rewatch of Breaking Bad

there's a particular scene where Walt Jr walks into the rooms and is all like

WHERE'S BREAKFAST?

And Walt is sitting in angst on the reclainer like

Fuck this shit

and at that moment you can just tell he just gave up keeping up the good dad persona

Which is obviously a choice made to fuck Skyler

Watching some Netflix series on John Demanjuk or Ivan the terrible. Some guy accused of manning the gas champers at the Nazi extermination camps.
Fled to the US, was extradited to Israel and it starts from there.

Some of the people involved seem like cartoon characters and not actual humans.
The Jewish lawyer of Demanjuk for example who considers himself a trouble maker.

A compelling watch so far with lots of archival footage.

That episode was weird, the music and sound effects were so cartoonish with the whole pseudo play thing, but in terms of character development, whew. Serious fucking gut punch episode (which almost every episode is this season). I thought we'd find out about Elliott's potential third persona but nope.

Has every episode this season had the credits list either a DV or Suicide prevention hotline?

No, just 4, 6-7. Everything after
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Tyrell dies

has been Hotlined, but it makes sense with the subject matter:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Olivia saying she attempted suicide before in 4, Olivia THEN DOES IT due to Elliot in 6, Child Abuse in 7/Elliot's realization changes the hotline from Suicide Prevention to "Domestic Violence"

And yeah, the "acts"/play format was a bit "out there," but it's not out of the norm for this season.
