DQIV also has the GOAT DQ ost. The sail theme is so good even DQIX reuses it. :lol yes, I know it's cuz Sugiyama is old

Okay, I'm going with IV as my favorite DQ. :lol I always flip flop on this series. :lol

I really liked the SNES DQV sailing theme better. Actually the only theme from DQ4 I remember is the one from the beginning where you're that soldier guy.

So IV and VIII are the only ones released for mobile gaming? VII is too long to translate?

1 and 2 seem like they'd be perfect for the mobile platform: quick and finished within a few hours. (The remakes, anyway. Jesus the NES version of II was punishing.)

Magus I bought that Elder Signs iOS game. Played 2 games and it seems to be a lot about luck, but I havent read on it really. Kind of digging it :)

yeah i gave a try to elder signs, played some games and then quickly got bored

the only other board game app i tried that was on android was chainsaw warrior, but that too it's heavily reliant on luck and pretty frustating to paly

Epoch 2 is the app of the week, pretty funny shooter so far. You dont have to worry about movement, its all about swiping in to cover, locking on enemies, dodging attacks.

Spellfall, another promising puzzle/rpg game ruined by harsh difficulty + IAP.

It's off-line though, so you can move the date/time around and collect all the freebies/rewards and play through the game. But ultimately not worth the hassle.

recently found this game which i tought was interessing enough to talk about it here, it's called radiohammer station, it's a pretty simple rhythm game, monster attack you at the rhythm of music and you defend yourself to the beat so it's kinda like karate man/samurai from rhythm tengoku if it was a whole game, the graphics are really colorfull and the game often dip in the absurd, like this bit where you have a battle against a gangsta buddha

the only problem i have is that this is a new F2P version of a previous 2$ game (which was just called radiohammer) and it shows, the IAP purchase feels really tacked on, there are powerup but to use them you need coins which adds a really grating grinding system, worse of all each stage has optional objective which you need to complete them all if you want to proceed, i found myself stuck because of one really hard objective and it was really frustating that i couldn't continue because of it! where i'm pretty sure the paid version gave you some leeway, at least most of the objective aren't hard so it's not a huge issue

Passed on Another World despite being an all time fave because I've played it a billion times and I'd rather buy it at full price to support.

Can't wait to play Raiden Legacy. It's been on my wishlist for a minute. :rock RAIDEN :rock We just need more Darius and some Thunder Force.

Not sure why they went with a joystick control layout and not a d-pad. I mean, I know why (nostalgia for DD arcade) but I don't know WHY (because for a beat em up that control scheme is inferior to d-pad touch).

It's basically Tower Defense, but inverted so you also have to be the aggressor against other people's layouts, plus a limiter based on one's implied abilities (collected Trophy points in CoC). Sadly, I am better at making a defensive layout than aggressing, so CoC's model seems to pit me against bases against which I cannot defeat.

ML is the game currency.

AA5 is....not impressing. I was going to buy the rest after the first case, but this is probably the worst first case in the series by a wide margin. It's convoluted, and the writing is fucking stupid. Phoenix doesn't immediately connect the dots that Apollo was attacked in the head like the trials victim. The entire leap of faith part where you try to establish the defendants innocence...even in the old games you never bluffed like this or tried to make a case out practically nothing. It feels less like a Turnabout and more like a magic hat trick and lacks any sense of elegance that was present in the original trilogy. The whole thing just feels canned.

That was a really, really bad first case and gives zero confidence in the rest of the games writing or potential. If this case was that bad, imagine case 4 or 5 which usually up the ante 10 times. The fact I'm more interested in playing as Athena makes it even worse. No buy. Will get the trilogy instead.

Yeah, IRL currency to avoid waiting is a pet peeve. "Energy" so that players can only make a preset number of moves is also annoying AND outdated. I've been enjoying Plundernauts, but it has like five moves, and then says "Come back later or pay money now!" Pfeh.

Honestly, most games that have timers are so shallow, I don't really want to play them more than 10-20 minutes. They're just exercises in progression, with very little variety in the path you are on.

Wow. Just finished up case 1.

And that was fucking awful. It goes all over the damn place.

I don't have hope for the Meiji era Japan game now. After AA4 - which was really bad for my tastes - and this awful first case of AA5, it seems it's be best to forget about the series post-AA3 and hope and hope and pray for a new Ghost Trick despite not selling well.

Shu Takumi is back to being hands-on with the series in the Meiji-era game for the first time since AA3.  He was only a supervisor on AA4, and had nothing to do with AAI/AAI2/AA5.  So I think there's *some* hope there, certainly more hope of him being allowed to do another Ghost Trick after its meteoric failure.

Oh wow. Good news.

Battle Camp is like a crappy Puzzle and Dragons knock-off that has more in common with Pokemons with an overworld and masters and crap.

Farm Heroes Saga is ten billion times easier than Candy Crush but has way better music, sound effects, and art design. 9.75/16

Adventure Quest: Battle Gems is good enough I suppose, I have yet to die, but it's fun to play for ten minutes or so. The more subtle puns are funnier than the straight references that I saw hyped in the reviews.

Radiant Defense is tower defense and I love tower defense so this is quite fun. They have four DLCs for the rest of the towers for a buck each, but Amazon had one free and the rest with coins back so you wind up only paying $2 for all of them. So after I played it for a couple hours I splurged and spent the two dollars. It's a more straight forward Tower Defense like Defense Grid than some of the more recent hybrids.

Star Command is alright, somewhat like FTL I suppose only of lesser quality, a little wonky in terms of unit selection at times. I think that's a factor of the way the "ship" is setup.

Some of these might actually cost money, I don't know since pretty much everything I have except Kingdom Rush I got as the free Amazon app of the day.

Ascension has recently got an android release

this is a deckbuilding board game similiar to dominion, for people that have never played these sort of game, you basicaly start with around 10 cards which give you resource and you then use these resource to buy more cards and then hopefull use those card to score more point than the opponent, ascension is different from dominion in that instead of buying from pre-determined sets, the card you can buy are drawn which adds an element of randomness, anyway the base game is free so no reason to not give it a try, well unless you have an ios phone since the ios version of this is apparently like 3 years old! :beli

the prequel is the same content, but there's only one main story. it has more cutscenes than all of cr1, tells a better story, and the combat is much better balanced. it takes almost as long to go through omega as it does to go through 1 all for times to get to it's ending. omega also has a bonus story mode that has lots of in-jokes and seems pretty fun, tho I haven't got that far into it. all in all its a much better game than the ultra-repetitive cr1.

I think they're all worth playing if you're interested in the stories.  And if you're going to play them all, you might as well start with the first game, because then it's straight uphill from there.

Glad you read my article, Himu.  I can't believe I'm writing a giant RPG-focused weekly column and you are literally the only one of my RPG-loving online best buds who has even looked at it.

Looking forward to part 3 of the column. The rest will turn around within two years when those portable RPGs they play start coming to mobile.
