alternatively i think you can play as a chick in the latest rune factory game,i haven't played it but i had a great time with rune factory 3 so i don't see why 4 should be more horrible... rune factory tides of destiny also give you the option to play as a female character too although it's not really that good

...and uh maybe you could get some idea from here? it's a blog i read with tons of impression about japanese only obscure adventure/rpg and as far as i know it's handled by a girl so you can rest assured stuff like fanservice get mentioned

I agree with this point.  But I'm not sure how they could've made it clearer.  Call it MGSV Prologue?

This should have been a $15 PSN/XBL title.  It's overpriced, but I still disagree that it's a demo.  It is similar to Case Zero, but there's a lot more content in GZ than Case Zero, so it should cost more.

Drop the 5 from the title and just call it "Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes".

I've been trying to find rpgs/srpgs with female protagonists that are pretty good games in themselves after my gf asked me for recommendations.  She was telling me how in rpgs it really takes her out of the game when the main character is getting the hots for some girl or people are calling him bro.  She prefers rpgs where you can make your own character or ones that let you pick a female MC like Persona 3 Portable.  She tried playing FFXIII but didn't find Lightning relate-able as a woman (yes, I made this post partly because I wanted to about that fact; lol Square). 

Games I thought of so far are:
Valkyrie Profile 1 & 2 (Great games, female leads)
FFVI (sort of female lead)
Tales of Xillia - Millia Route (not sure if this is a good "first Tales", might give a bad impression of the franchise as bland)
Xenosaga (not recommending this, too slow and dated)
Persona 2 EP (not recommending this, too slow and dated)

I think though, since there's just not that many rpgs, especially on modern systems (she has PSP/3DS/DS/PS3) with female protagonists I'm probably just going to try to think of ones that don't really have any gender-specific features like most DQ games that aren't DQV or Resonance of Fate or most mainline SMT games.

Any good recommendations?  She just finished Fire Emblem Awakening & Rune Frontier 4 and is looking for a new rpg.  Thinking about recommending SMT SJ and if she likes that she can play SMTIV sometime.

Suikoden III if she can handle ps2 jank.

Also, Final Fantasy X and X-2 have a feminine touch.

Mass Effect trilogy.

Since she's got a ds, I also suggest DQ. DQ4 and DQ9 both feature female mc's when I played them.

There's quite a bit to choose from.

"Prologue" might have made it more obvious.  It definitely should have been $15 or less, that's for sure.  As it stands I'm not buying it until it's that cheap, if at all.

In his Tomb Raider review he claimed the platforming the older games was crappy, and TR reboot made it better. Why, because it's all automatic and on rails now? Loser

I also suggest Musou games. They have a lot of female characters and they're RPG-ish and they have co-op so you can play together. Get Samurai Warriors 4 when it comes out.

You're getting them mixed up with Compile Heart and Idea Factory. Gust make legit great RPGs. They're pretty much the best Japan has to offer at the moment besides the Souls series.

well if i said there is absolutely no fanservice content in the first three ps3 games whatsoever that would be a lie (one of the first scenes of rorona involve a drunken female shopkeeper getting "touchy" with rorona and the same gag is also extented to the two other game)

however people often grossly exagerate in a mix of horror caused by IF complete otaku loli garbage,DLC costumes (including swimsuits) "the manual says she's 14 you dirty pedo!",kishida mel art and general "lol japan" for example something like this

just doesn't happen... know what you can expect? more dialogue about cakes! and jokes about bald blacksmiths! and it's very annoying because they are solid game with tons of lore and full of interessing characters even if they all have their own separate issues (mostly often combat which is really easy to broke or sometimes just doesn't happen often at all to begin with)

not to mention it's not like there isn't content that is clearly geared toward girls

even if you don't want to give a chance to the first three games,starting from the fourth one (which would be ayesha) they changed completly setting,character and artist and switched to a more serious tone which also translated into complete murder of any sort of fanservice so there is really no reason to not try ayesha at least

the thing that really puzzles me is that this game is made by the same thing that make persona 3/4 popular,it's one third time management,one third rpg battles and one third fictional social relationships (except in ayesha you are a spectator as you have no control over what to say) and yet here we have people like himuro "ewwwww i'm not going to touch that loli shit"

all of them work on this basis, ayesha is where i suggest people to start because

- it's the start of the last trifecta of atelier games and unlike rorona it's not super ancient and clunky (rorona is in fact so ancient and clunky it's getting a redone version)
- it features a post apocalyptic setting which i think it's really interessing, i also fucking love the OST
- it's the best paced one as lot of these games are mission based and force you to wait for mission to roll... in ayesha you just have one big mission (which is to rescue ayesha sister) so you are able to set your own pacing

oh by the way since you seems so fixated on the girly aspect of the game, let me tell you one thing... there is a feature in this game where you collect point by doing task like collecting item and fighting monster,you then use these point to write event of the game in this diary which in turn reward you with stat boost and the like

Not really. Dead or Alive 5 was a really good game, much better then 4. It's just DLC infused. Then again, all Japanese console games basically are these days.
