Didn't Japan ban stuff like that recently?

They only banned the kind where you had to get an entire set through a random selection before you could have a chance to randomly get the final one.

rumor: Monster Hunter exclusive to Nintendo handhelds for 3 years.   It's vague, but it doesn't sound unlikely--its the game that gave PSP a huge boost in Japan after all.

What's next for Vita?

A) Hackers reverse engineer Vita to upload things to PSN, uploads virus that bricks all Vitas in existence.
B) Factory that assembles Vitas blows up
C) Two factories that assemble + make Vita parts blow up
D) Pathetically wither away as support completely dries up and only declared dead when Sony feels its least harmful to announce.

:'(  still my fave...

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, MLB 13: The Show, Soul Sacrifice, Dead or Alive 5 Plus, Phantasy Star Online 2, Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus, Gundam Breaker, and One Piece Kaizoku Musou 2 are all coming out over the next few months.  When there's absolutely nothing I'd be interested in or nothing actually coming for the Vita, maybe then I'll feel that way.  Meanwhile I have a ton of games to play on it but I just end up playing SFxTK online.

Vita may not have Monster Hunter, but it does have God Eater 2, PSO2, and Soul Sacrifice.  It's just too bad that GE2 and SS (PSO2's regular version is a free download) are not gonna sell anywhere even close to what MH4 will do.

given how fucking low your standards are when it comes to vita games, i suspect you will not feel that way for a long time.

So those games I listed, obvious big titty musou aside, are all going to be shit titles?

it's not that there aren't any good games coming for vita, but you absolutely have low standards for the system, and i don't see why you can't come by that honestly.  you even downplayed codblops' shittiness, for christ's sake.  when it comes to vita, you're about as discerning as acebandage is for nintendo or i am for non-sonic sega.

Because I'm not downplaying anything.  I think that BLOPS multiplayer is OK- and it is.  It still beats playing with crappy touchscreen-only controls, which is a shame because if wasn't for that NOVA, Modern Combat, and the like would shit all over everything else.  (I actually find Shadowgun DeadZone playable.  That has been the only iOS shooter I've been able to have some fun with).  3DS has no FPS or TPS deathmatch games.

Quote
last time i mentioned this you gave some spiel about not kicking systems before they have a chance or something like that, but i've noticed you haven't been shy about hoofing the wiiu in the teeth, so that was obviously not true.  just admit you have a silly boner bias for the vita already.

Admit what?  That I like the system?   :lol  Of course I do.  I like the 3DS too.  It just doesn't have much I'm interested in coming out for it.  I don't care for JRPGs (or most RPGs in general) so that probably leave a lot of stuff out.

The Vita launched with games I was interested in right out of the gate.  Wii U did not, and Bayonetta 2 aside, I don't see anything else I'd give a shit about.  Of course I'm giving it shit- it deserves it.  The Vita is a good system, with a good library, and piss-poor, laughable sales.  It's the best "dead" system I've enjoyed playing games on since the Dreamcast and Neo-Geo Pocket.

Do I like the Vita more than the 3DS?  Yup.  It has more features, a better screen, two analog sticks, and a friends list/messaging system that actually allows you to communicate and invite each other to games.  But I don't have a bias towards anything but the games I like.  Don't give a fuck what platform it is.  If I did I wouldn't also be playing mobile games on my iPhone and 3DS too.

Quote
edit: whoops i forget to mention god eater 2.  i expect it will be as good as godeater 1, which means it'll definitely be shit.

I really have no idea.  Just mentioning that there are three games in a similar vein to MH coming out for it.  I don't care to play that either.  I am interested in Soul Sacrifice and PSO2, but the latter still seems to have no English announcement.   :-\

no, it's cool, man.  back to my original statement: i think you will always be happy with the vita's release calendar, as long as a single title remains on it.  that's a good thing, yeah?

I'm conesidering throwing a videogame themed party when I hit 100,000 gamerscore. Yay or nay?
Only if you've got a mess of friends who also care about GamerScore. Make sure you have "Hello, My Name Is:" stickers and some markers, so everyone can write their GamerTag in there.

I am trying to figure out if I care about GamerScore, or if it's just low-leverl OCD burning in me to try and "finish" games. I caught myself thinking about booting up GUN again, to mop up the last two Achievements, Mercenaries 2 for the only 1 I am missing from it. There are definitely better things I could do with my time.

...God, Mercs 2. What a disappointment that was. Pandemic was in a hiring push at GDC just before that launched, and I was a gushing fanboy to two very nice HR people wandering the floor. To be fair, I also got unreasonably excited about the Lego MMO which opened and closed without a bang.

A week or two ago they announced that Sly 4 is going to be a budget title.  $40 for PS3+Vita; $30 for vita alone.  Sort of sounds like they're preparing for the inevitable low sales.

Demo is coming sometime in January.  I'm skeptical like the others.  I want it to be good and I like how they're approaching it, even if it's pretty safe.  Open worlds of sly 2+3 with a greater focus on sly 1's linear platforming.

Same.

Is there any news on Sucker Punch's next project btw?

I think sometime after Infamous 2, Sony bought Sucker Punch, so whatever it is, it'll be a PS4 exclusive...for better or worse.  Probably a new franchise, too.

(re: Sly 4 demo) by January I meant the 22nd since it's already out on the store.  It's a Playstation Plus exclusive demo ( ???).  Can't really judge it based on the short demo other than saying it plays like Sly 2/3.  That sounds like a minor thing, but if you've played high impact's ratchet or jak games, neither of those felt right.

They're quite different. The combat in Dragon's Dogma is much faster and less deliberate. At least in the beginning you can just panic press buttons and rely on your companions and you will crush any foe. One of the many things that makes the Souls games so amazing is that you have to pay attention to every little detail. Even the first enemy in the game is going to kill you in a few blows if you don't keep your guard up or dodge his attacks.

Dragon's Dogma is a much easier game than Souls and is a bit more on the generic side in its art and settings. Having said that, it's still very fun to go out exploring in the middle of the night and then come across some huge monster that just rips you right through. There's also a lot more NPC interaction, party-building, and side-quests. It's a shame that it didn't do a lot better in the West, since it was clearly designed to cater to that market more so in Japan [where it actually sold quite well].

It does have its problems, though, like force backtracking without the aid of quick-travel [which you only get near the very end of the game] and there only being a few of those really huge monsters, so it's not quite my 2012 GOTY, but I'd probably put it in or close to my top 5.

One save file, auto-save/checkpoints will override manual saves. It sucks.

Enemies spawn everywhere in DD. It's kinda like a cross between a japanese action game like DMC and skyrim. It's not really like Souls at all.

It is really good though! I clocked up 90 hours and going to go back shortly for my last few achievements.

Once you reach the main city you can change your class, so no point restarting. Class choice and builds are pretty much irrelevant due to the fact you can switch up your skills depending what you're up against.

Get off my case about this. GTAIV sucked balls. You are acting like no one had any reason what so ever to not have reservations after that abortion.

As for Dragon's Dogma, there have been many parallels even on this very forum

All I did was ask simple questions for information. You can take your repetitive years old feuds and snark elsewhere.

If you have not seen nor heard of Souls comparisons to Dragon's Dogma you must have completely ignored anything related to the game. Sit down. Dial down the "gotcha!" bullshit, take your viagra, and shut the fuck up. Perhaps you have been in Japan for too long so English isn't your first language but it is obvious from my queries that I'm not saying DD is like Souls games. After All i have not played it. I am merely trying to see if such comparisons hold merit because the one thing I don't need is another overhyped shitty core game full of jank praised to high heaven because it doesn't hold the players hand.

Wanna know what Dark Souls is like? How about starting with a game actually developed by From Software? You'll find that they've been making these kinds of RPGs for years.

In fact, it's a pretty good rule of thumb to limit your comparisons of games to the games in a single developer's portfolio, if not the key staff. Just because it's the norm to be a shit-spewing idiot on message boards doesn't make it okay to mimic them. There's a place for that.

Dragon's Dogma has maybe a bit of Dark Souls in it, but it's certainly not LIKE Dark Souls. Like I said, it plays like a Euro-Jank RPG [third-person, action-oriented] with a few elements pulled from the likes of Dark Souls and Skyrim. Play it any way.

But what's Dark Souls about it? I've played both, as have you, and I'm just wondering where you see that, because I don't see it at all. Maybe the setting? But then every game with a fantasy setting has "some Dark Souls".

EDIT: I hope I'm not coming off as defensive or anything, I just actually want to understand the comparison.

But what's Dark Souls about it?

Third-person, action-oriented gameplay, lots of armor and equipment, big monsters, the one file save system. Just some little things.

And they both have dragons.

Okay, I getcha.

To me, Dragon's Dogma felt like an open world Lost Planet with combo-based melee combat, and fuck-awful menus.

Same here. I've played it for an hour and decided I didn't like the class I rolled.

Once you reach the main city you can change your class, so no point restarting. Class choice and builds are pretty much irrelevant due to the fact you can switch up your skills depending what you're up against.
