Sick as balls, hubs is working late, taking a big L in parenting tonight. Had enough energy to boil water and add a packet of Lipton soup mix (ok it took about an hour from start to finish cause fuck my body hates me). Just gave the kid some soup in a sippy cup because I couldn't even be bothered sitting her down and cleaning up the inevitable brothy mess. She's sick too so she won't eat anything anyway. "Here, it's warm juice!"
If you get some liquid and salt in her, she'll be fine. Avoiding dehydration is the main thing. Same for you. Hope you feel better soon!

She's still alive this morning, so that's a win! I somehow found energy to make French toast for us, and she ate all that. And she's been alternating milk and water, all last night and today, drinking a ton. Mines more tea and coffee lol

And I haven't turned the TV on once all day. We've just been coloring, reading, and playing kitchen. Mother of the Year :mynicca

I remember when I was a musician I read a study that said that whatever the type of music you listened to when you were 14-early 20s is the kind of music you'll listen to the rest of your life. I thought to myself, "Never man! Not me!"

Now that I'm older I see how true it is and I hate myself for it.

I've already come to terms with the fact that I have robot ears and will be listening to various kinds of electronic music 'til my ears run their course.

Then when I'm 80 I'll LITERALLY have robot ears due to the exponential incline of technology.

But I'm not listening to Blink-182, Sublime and Green Day these days  ???

Early 20's, sure. I got into Led Zeppelin and the Beatles heavily and still listen to their stuff all the time.
Yeah I was like "But I don't just listen to New Order anymore I listen to Electronic and Bad Lieutenant...and other bands...that sound just like...New Order...." and then I cried in a corner.

Need to work on your salespersonship, comrade.

First thing, you gotta act like Kronstadt was as important as the Russian Revolution. This is key.

Second thing, you gotta rave about the CNT, maybe suggest reading Homage to Catalonia. Just remember, don't talk about the way they undermined the Alianza Obrera, or that they literally transported government troops [via the railroads they controlled] to Asturias to crush the strike there in 1934. :shh

this is definitely true. i went down the noise/drone/gross sounds hole in my early 20s and never really surfaced outside of 90s-early 00s alt/indie rock which is what I latched onto when I was 15-18.

I mean I listen to other shit too but the above is 80% of my harddrive.

It's so true... And I've gone a step further. I'm listening to stuff my older brother did, but I was too cool to admit to my friends I liked a few years later when we all got into music. It's way better than some of the shit I was listening to.

....

Now that I'm thinking about it... I'm doing the same shit with my parents music too... I'm basically listening to all my parents and brother's favorite bands all day at work on my phone. :dead

Not my older sister tho. I knew back then she didn't have good taste :yuck

my cat is dying slowly and there isn't anything I can do about it. found him as a kitten about 4 years ago, turned out he had fiv which can be bad or not a big deal. he lost about 1/2 his body weight 6 months ago and now he struggles to walk around and even eat. and explaining this to my son who loves this cat involves 'bad owies' and ugh don't know wtf to do. i usually don't share this shit on the internet but i need to shove some emotions out.

I'm sorry man.  I've gone through this before and the only thing i have to offer is to be truthful and explain that it's a part of life and be strong for your little one.  They'll take it as a learning experience and become stronger from it.

Vets really can't gauge his expected lifespan, from what I've read of FIV it's very arbitrary. When he had his dramatic weight loss a few months back, he was (seemingly) perfectly healthy, full of energy and within a week was lethargic and you could obviously tell he had lost a huge amount of weight, along with his coat becoming very matted. Really just hit out of nowhere.  He seemed to be doing ok but over the last couple of months since but as of the last week or so has become even more low energy, doesn't run at all, can barely jump a foot off the ground and barely eats and grooms. I don't know when I am ready to make that call on letting him go but I think it's going to be very soon.

So sorry to hear that man  :(

You say he's still eating? Does he respond to being petted/affection? We went through this last year with one of our cats (technically my sister's but I had practically adopted him by then). It was hard because his health sort of plateaued just a notch or two above the level where we could feel confident it was the right time. We basically kept a hospice like vigil with him for a week or two.

I think if he doesn't eat for a day or two that's probably the sign.

he pretty much sits on our couch or bed all day being petted by one of us, and only gets up to use the restroom (not very well) and eat a bit and drink. he's basically eating baked chicken all day, won't touch cat food right now. He's kind of plateaued a bit, but any further deterioration and I wouldn't feel right letting him live like that. Sucks.

I appreciate all of the advice/thoughts from everyone.

I always lumped High on Fire with Sleep and Mastodon as bands that I'd just never be able to fuck with, but that track .

I refute Esch's claim, those Louisiana based sludge groups are definitely not doom-oriented. NOLA is an absolute classic, COC had a great run from Blind-Wiseblood, and Eyehategod -probably the quintessential sludge band- does not incorporate that drone shtick that's so prevalent in doom. I lump stoner bands like Orange Goblin and Clutch into that same category because to me, this genre is defined by it's bluesy, downtuned guitars and scraping vocals ridden with Lovecraftian depression. Also (and I can't believe I'm assigning myself this L :snoop), a lot of the aforementioned bands have a grunge streak. Song structure is, for the most part, formulaic and straightforward; there's a heavy emphasis on dynamic melody and rhythym, but nothing earth-shattering. None of that is necessarily detrimental. The genre is about riffing and screaming, and the simple approach leaves room for both of those to breathe. It's dope music to blast out of your car on a hot, muggy summer afternoon or bust out a riff from on your friends Les Paul (like I could do that ).

Also, can we talk about how in addition to being a Viking guido culture vulture, Zakk Wylde is also the biggest #sadboy in the metal industry?  :heh

Pallbearer is pretty good, but the vocals can get a little grating

which is hypocritical of me because I've been listening to Portal which is basically not music and just instrument noise with grunting here and there.

Once a head, always a head though.
This, a million times over. You can drift away from the genre, your tastes can change, but nothing will ever make/let you forget the feeling or take away the solidarity/understanding received from having to explain to people why you like metal and them subsequently looking at you like .

I remember when I was a musician I read a study that said that whatever the type of music you listened to when you were 14-early 20s is the kind of music you'll listen to the rest of your life. I thought to myself, "Never man! Not me!"

Now that I'm older I see how true it is and I hate myself for it.
Yeah I was like "But I don't just listen to New Order anymore I listen to Electronic and Bad Lieutenant...and other bands...that sound just like...New Order...." and then I cried in a corner.

my cat is dying slowly and there isn't anything I can do about it. found him as a kitten about 4 years ago, turned out he had fiv which can be bad or not a big deal. he lost about 1/2 his body weight 6 months ago and now he struggles to walk around and even eat. and explaining this to my son who loves this cat involves 'bad owies' and ugh don't know wtf to do. i usually don't share this shit on the internet but i need to shove some emotions out.

Losing a pet sucks; losing a pet slowly is torture. I'm sad for your family's situation.
