My cousin and her husband drove down from Chicago to visit the family today, for a big dinner. They're probably a conservative's worst nightmare: they're on welfare, don't work, have a new/nice car, nice apartment, designer clothes, etc. My cousin has MS and is bipolar but she's perfectly fine when she takes her medicine. Her husband hurt his back like 5 years ago while working, and since then he's claimed he's unable to work - of course everyone knows it's bullshit.
Normally this wouldn't bother me too much, but they're on welfare and yet are extremely smug and pretentious. Like today, I wore some jeans and a button up shirt to dinner, and my cousin asked me what brand it was. I didn't know, and she was like "wow, how can you wear something and not know who did it? Seriously..." Then her husband started talking about how much better Chicago food is than my grandma's food, while we were at the table. Now I'm sure Chicago has some restaurants that are better than homemade Louisiana style soul food, but that doesn't seem like the type of conversation to have in front of the cook (grandma). She wasn't pleased, at all.
But then again she wasn't pleased from the start. My uncle brought his new girlfriend over again, and my grandma hates her. My uncle is like 53, his gf is 25. She's morbidly obese and extremely tacky, but that doesn't bother my grandma: she's upset about the age difference. She didn't respond to a single thing the gf said lmao.
