I chose my major largely because I heard accounting offered great job security. Wasn't really interested in business or math at the time, but I trudged through the boring/tedious shit nonetheless. I wish I had gone into something I was actually interested in...but at the time I decided not to go into IT/computer shit because...of math. The #dualities...

Well until a certain level in accounting the only math you need to know how to do is addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and low-level algebra. :toshrug

That's why I hate it when baby face interns try and pick my brain about how to get ahead in the game. "How do you make it in this industry, grizzled veteran?" "Know how to fucking count and don't have a personal life you snot-nosed whelp."

When young people ask me what advice I have for them I just say "if you get a math problem wrong, or some other numbers related thing...do you obsess over your failure until you find the error of your ways, no matter how long it takes?" Most people say no, and I tell them to go into marketing.

Having talked to the legion of failed accounting majors that populate the teller windows of big 4 banks that feel the need to share their academic miscarriages with me for reasons I still cannot comprehend, I think the unintuitiveness of accounting's fundamental rules is what causes people to burn out, not the math. Debits and credits make sense, you just don't encounter them as a civilian (usually).

I think it was Mary Tyler Whore who upon finishing MBA class recently posted something here like, "Sure can't wait to never see the accounting equation again!" and internally I was all .

He's out of the room in less than 2 minutes. I wait 10 more minutes and nurse comes back with a lab work form. Fucking hell. Didn't once get to mention the dark spot on my toe.

Time to find a new clinic.

And still nothing on whether or not I have diabetes or not because I have to go buy the tests at the store myself and I need to fast for the blood work for tomorrow and who fucking knows how long it'll take to get results back so I'll be in the dark for a while.

BTW, if there's one thing this course has taught me it's that I somehow fell into the ocean deep of tax scenarios. Legit baffled by the things I know that my classmates (primarily CTECs) don't, and the things they know about tax situations average Americans exist in that I haven't the foggiest notion of. One of them asked why distributions from a partner's capital account reduced the partner's basis in the partnership today.

The last time I was there Manchester still showed very visible evidence of the 1996 bombing. It was kinda surreal to lil' me to walk through a mall that had been blown to hell by the (Provisional) IRA.

Anyway, the UK's horribly inconsistent economic development aside, I'm not sure it's really a genuine comparison to make. It's not like you want to be poor in any state in the U.S., let alone the bottom 15 or so. Any blowhard Tory lickspittle is welcome to try living that life

Just got back to work after 2 nights at Revel in Atlantic City.   

Didn't gamble there though. You think a casino that is shutting down in a week is gonna pay out? 

It was the nicest hotel room I've ever been in. The shower was big enough to comfortably fit 6 people and had a bench that would seat 3.
We ate dinner at the Knife and Fork and I got Filet Sinatra. Washed it down with a Chimay.
