but pretty sure I'm going to have to relearn calculus to teach my girlfriend who is back to school this semester

i attempted to take calculus after six years of not having done a lick of math and stopped attending classes after failing the first test. i was able to loosely follow the concepts but the trick algebra problems and especially anything involving trig and half unit circles would throw me in all sorts of loops. the only reason i was able to sign up for the class was because of the placement exam i took six years prior, before i dropped out of uni. i had too much pride to take anything less nor did i want to stay in uni longer than i already had

so i did the khan academy course work intended for k-12 during the summer to refamiliarize myself with the foundations, starting with basic arithmetic up through trig. the course work was embarrassingly easy but acted as a great primer in understanding the basics. calculus as a whole became fairly easy, save for some of the concepts in introduced later in calculus 2 that were never touched on again in my course work

i can't recommend it enough and encourage both you and your girlfriend to do it together.

I can't give much advice since if I remember correctly, you wanted to go into something related to illustration and I don't know anything about that graphic design stuff.

I can say that if you're taking the GRE, you don't have to study much. I mean literally a few weeks with maybe an hour a day to cover all the random vocabulary and probability problems you would need to cover. The analytical writing section is mostly just graded on word count, vocab complexity, and sentence variation so I submitted a total garbage nonsensical essay that made no convincing argument and got 92 percentile. My friend who's been doing drama writing for years got 40-something percentile. Yeah it's bullshit but easy points.

To be honest, success in life is mostly just luck but nothing is determined. Take a chance and try to do what you really want. What kind of jobs do you want to go into?

trying to mentally get ready for it. i work 7/7 on off so for my 80 hr on weeks relearning calculus for a class i'm not taking is less than a thrilling prospect
