Sad to see NZ leave, would've been so epic to see them win. They played really well, Paston rules. Stoked to see Italy knocked out but was hoping for a draw then NZ would've had a chance at going through. Still we didn't concede a game, a pretty awesome result.

I still don't understand why you support Brazil so vigorously if you aren't Brazilian or live in Brazil. Pretty fucked up since these are the national teams.

Its all on Lippi, Pirlo and Gattuso as substitutes? really?

Pepe, Iaquinta and De Rossi were dead weight yet started each match. What really hurt us was Buffon's abscence. Not only for his ability to make brilliant saves but to marshall the back line and crack the whip there. Even with all that we would've probably gone through if we had shown some spirit for more than just the last fifteen minutes or so of that game. Shameful really and we deserve to exit

Think of it as watching the ufc, at first you might cheer for fighters from your country but later on you prioritize performance and skill over background.
Most people who have been following the world cup for a long time cheer for more than one team. It usually starts with them liking a team for kicking out the team that kicked their team out of the competition.
For example USA losing against England 2-0 and in the next round Argentina kicks England out 6-1.

It is very normal trust me. The majority of the people that I know cheer for countries other than their own.

2-0 for Japan right now. Poor Danes  :(

But it's not the same.

See in the UFC the fighters aren't actually representing a country, they represent themselves. It's more comparable to clubs that way, you might like the club you wanna like regardless of where the club is.

But national teams? Stick to your own country please, no doubt that you can like and cheer for other countries but not as if was your own.

It is not the same thing for sure but there are similarities in how the viewers cheer.
Most girls that I know cheer for Sweden, if not Sweden then Italy because the Italians are hot  :-*
Guys usually cheer for other countries like Italy, France, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and so on.
Do you mean that I can't cheer for USA  :'(

It's not normal at all to cheer for a country that you have absolutely no ethnic or residential relation to as your primary team.  You're part of the problem, Skidmark.  Just because you're a man without a country doesn't mean you should spread your anti-societal values.

Japan is actually pretty entertaining to watch.  Most Asian teams just rely on effort and defense but the Japanese players are quite good technically.  Go Yellow!

Brazil played a bit of a dog match here. They were tackling ugly in the first half, and the handball deserved a red card.

Too bad Meireles couldn't get it in when all it had to do was to shoot on goal.

USA will be playing against Ghana today, what are your predictions for this match?

I personally don't think that we will see additional time. What makes me believe so is that USA has scored a good amount of goals in the groups stage, and got some goals scored against it too probably because of their bad defense. Ghana hasn't scored much in the previous stage. I think we will see defensive game play from USA but they have to make their counter attacks count if they want to win. If they succeed at doing so the game will probably end 1-0 or 2-1 for USA but it will be a close game and a hard one to win.

USA can't get flustered either. Ghana knows the USA has had strong finishes so there won't be any let up. If US players start to get desperate then they'll fub it up.

Yeah Ghana is historically a very defensive team, they have solid defense but they don't score often which can be a problem for them in todays game.

The match seems to start at the same time my friends birthday party starts and it is mostly girls so no watching football. I guess I will have to bring my mp3 player and listen to the match or ask her if I can sit inside and watch it :(
