On a related note, my sister once claimed to be Finnish, in spite of no actual proof of any kind of Finnish ancestry.

The reason is that she was really into HIM at the time. So much that she started to assume an ancestry that we did not have. She also claimed to talk to the lead singer on a regular basis.

Anyway, she so badly wanted to be Finnish so she can connect better to HIM that she just made up the connection herself. My guess is that this is what this poor dode is doing. He so badly wants to be Japanese (I'm glad this craze has been dead on GAF for a few years) that he just assumes the ethnicity and just makes shit up. Having seen it done before by a family member, that is my guess.

Anytime I called her out on it or asked for some type of proof, she would get angry and throw a fit. She never did provide a shred of proof, which is obvious, since she made it up. She never could prove that she was talking to the lead singer of HIM either. Since I didn't care to constantly create defensive temper tantrums from her, I eventually stopped asking. Never did ask my parents if they called her out on it but this wasn't the first time she did something like this so maybe they just ignored it.

She eventually moved on from that, I think picking up on paranormal stuff since this was around the time Twilight was getting big. I don't know if she claimed to be a vampire (of the Cullen kind of course) but at that point, I had enough going on in my life (internship, getting a job, senior projects, etc.) that I left her alone.

It definitely isn't healthy and she doesn't do it as often anymore now that she is married and has a job. Nevertheless, she does weird shit all of the time, which is why I have her dachshund, in spite of not being very keen on owning pets (I still love him though

)
