I buy manga/anime for jpn anyway. Never really fucked with dubs and subs are easy enough to get, I've always felt icky about giving western licencing companies any money since they mostly just add shit into the bag.

We will never get Macross subbed legally in America in our life times probably. The license extends 30 more years. Most of us are in our 30's.

For reference, HG butchered Macross and turned it into Robotech. They did the original SDF, and then they took two totally different anime series and called them the Robotech Saga when they aren't even related to SDF and created their own fan fiction story. Think how Super Mario Bros 2 used Doki Doki Panic as a template to create a Mario palette swap except for two anime series unrelated to Macross.

And they've been sitting on the Macross license and doing jack shit with it Now they've re-upped. Meanwhile people want actual SDF Macross on blu ray subbed free of Harmony Gold's bullshit.

I prefer Gundam as a franchise but SDF Macross is by far and away my favorite mecha tv series. It's an epic and I want it on blu.

Robotech helped anime become a thing in America so that's nice, but it's been beaten like a dead horse by HG over the last couple decades. The sad things is that their interactions with Tatsunoko have caused Big West/Nue to hate them and refuse to work with them, so we're unlikely to ever see 7, Zero (ADV almost got this released here on DVD, but then I'm sure BG/SN wised up and said no), Frontier, Delta, etc. localized here legally. Ever.

Also, HG is essentially squatting on a property they can't afford to remaster and is just hoping that they get lucky with their live action film deal with Sony.

I don't even hate Robotech. Like a lot of folks I grew up with it but it's insane that we can't have them both at this point. Especially since the brand is relatively dead like GR said. Everyone that really cares at this point is well into their 30s and fully up to speed on the franchise' roots/history and HG fuckery.

There was actually a great tweet when this news hit that was like "There are ppl in their 30s who prefer Robotech over Macross and even they fucking hate Harmony Gold too"

IIRC none of the installments since plus, (7, Zero, F, Delta) were released with subs on the JP dvds or blurays.

I guess this continues to give fansubbers something to do.

Supposedly there's more to it than just HG though, Big West, the main company involved in productions beyond the original, puts their thumb on the scale pretty hard and won't deal with HG at all.

I don't disagree, but there's definitely more nuance to the story than just "HG is preventing this from happening."

Finished up One Punch season 2. Yeah the problem for me wasn't the animation. It was simply that one punch man has less directions to go the further you go along unless you do something really inventive. One punch man isn't like DragonBall or something where you can milk it forever with the superman hero fantasy. One Punch is a satire of that kind of thing. So when it ends up overly feeling like the thing it is satirizing, you know its time to stop. Season 2 wasn't incredibly painful to watch or anything. There are fun moments. And funny moments. But the freshness you felt when you first were introduced to the anime/manga is almost completely missing.

Mob Psycho uses a lot of the themes of one punch man but simply has more room to grow and better relationships to explore by comparison.

Watched the first season of Aggretsuko which was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. Very funny show.

I mean, the fanservice is there and you're either gonna like or not like it, regardless of how the series tries to justify its inclusion. Watch the show as a crazy, over-the-top action series that [despite taking itself a bit too seriously sometimes] generally doesn't take itself too seriously and just wants to be as wild as it can be.
