I know you don't live in the US Nintex and I don't know what the XSX sales numbers are, but they're not sitting on shelves here. Both next gen consoles have been hard as hell to find.

They haven't been restocked here for weeks now as far as I can tell. Last time I tried was like the middle of March and I was probably like a minute too late with ordering or something.

On twitter, Wario64 posts when sites has them available. I've seen Gamestop, Best Buy and I think Amazon restocks in the past week or two.

Like Nintex, I'm Dutch. We got this telegram app group with people that use bots when they go up, but even that has been silent. Seems there's been nothing the last two weeks in the Netherlands.

I'm not tracking Xbox in Europe, US is their strong market.

Xbox in Europe outside of the UK was already dead with Xbox One.
Which sort of has its benefits actually. I never had to worry about Xbox One games selling out.

You can still buy some 'Day One Edition' launch games  :doge

I remember when HALO 3 launched. That was a big event. Stores trying to match discounts, bundles stacked up everywhere.
Haven't seen such buzz for Xbox on this side of the world in a long time.

Dig up an article from 2014 to lick your fan wounds. :lol

They assumed it was stuck on the Wii U. No shit they thought MK8 sales would suck. If anything, lambast them for stretching this premise beyond ten words.

Fanthings deserve drug resistant gonorrhea.

It was a dumb take either way. Mario Kart 8 was not going to do worse than Super Circuit and would very likely outsell Double Dash and both things happened before it released on Switch because it sold 8.3 million units on Wii U.

That article is a meme on resetera, no need to dig it up. Polygon probably just keeps it online because it drives so muchs traffic.

That chart is all kinds of dumb.

Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 tops the charts, knocking FIFA 21 down to No.2. The last Nier game that was released came in March 2017 in the form of the acclaimed Nier Automata. This remake sold 50% fewer copies than Automata.
89% of sales were on PS4 and 11% on Xbox One. Digital sales are not included.

Previous record was Nintendo during the Wii/DS era

I just saw that RE8 completely bombed in Japan down from RE3R even.

I wonder what the reasoning is. RE3R wasn't that long ago, have tens of thousands of Japanese players who would play RE sold their PS4s and moved to Switch only at this point? Or is it because Japanese players aren't big on FPS? RE7 did fine, but PS4 was healthier at that point and RE still had a lot of hype. Was a huge drop from RE6 still.

I'm sure RE8 will do fine worldwide. And I didn't expect it to do anything special in Japan. Just surprised it's down from like 180k -> 140k opening from RE3R.

FPS games don't do that hot in Japan in general and they really advertised mostly the action parts of this game and the vampire lady.
I was quite surprised how different the tone of the game is compared to the trailers. Much more silly/cringe/80's movie as you would expect from Resident Evil and far less 'serious'.
The vampire lady plays a very small role in the game overall.

I expect PS5 shortages also have something to do with this. I was quite surprised to see how well it runs on Xbox One X and PS4 (Pro).
This game was announced as a PS5 game first and they didn't put the last gen versions on the radar until they released the demo.
There is also the part where Capcom says it isn't Resident Evil 8 but Resident Evil Village and still put a VIII in the logo. Overall the marketing was just weird.

There's a rumor that Capcom is working on a (timed exclusive) Resident Evil game for Switch releasing late 2021 or early 2022 but it hasn't surfaced yet.

Yes. So I'll start with Apex and then Andrew may want to jump on, on FIFA. So on Apex, clearly, as you said, Japan is the second-largest market for Apex, which is very exciting for us. And we know that it's one of the largest markets for the Nintendo Switch.

The markets are wildly different. People who play competitive FPS are not inherently the same group who want single player horror games.

I don't think anyone could have predicted in 2017 that a WiiU re-release and Animal Crossing would both easily blow through 35m copies sold and not look like slowing down in the slightest.

Or that a Zelda game would top 25m!

Is the demand going to really be there though?

Seems like Sony just getting ahead of the downturn in demand due to the recent M$ acquisitions.

Seems like Sony just getting ahead of the downturn in demand due to the recent M$ acquisitions.
Demand is there, they have a stellar line-up coming up with Gran Turismo and some other things and still lots of fans haven't been able to buy it yet.
The bigger question is how long people are willing to wait and if Microsoft can stay ahead with production and thus promotions.

Considering the big acquisitions won't bear fruit anytime soon, whoever gets their supply issues fixed first will win this generation.
The fact that they have to cut down supply for the fiscal year also means we won't see a PS5 Slim until at least later in 2023.

I think Sony are in trouble honestly.

The Series S, as hamstrung as it is by its limitations, turned into the most accidental masterstroke of all. Gives people a cheap and available entry point.

The PS5 is only getting less desirable and less available. Every day that goes by that someone who wants one can't get one is one day closer to them looking at the XB and seeing that it is available and has a much stronger library with an even stronger potential library.

If the CoD crowd goes to Xbox (and if MS have any brains, they will be able to move them across easily), then the US market will start to resemble the 360/PS3 days with Nintendo as the wildcard.

Europe, as always, is going to be the hard sell for MS.

Less desirable to who? The system is very in demand.

Xbox has a better library? Compared to what? Xbox has been widely available this entire time and hasn't detured PS5 sales.
