I still love my Genesis (I would hope so, since I've only had it for barely over a year! :lol), but I'm already fantasizing about down the road, maybe in five years swapping it out for a used C7.  That might be feasible for me, money-wise.

By then any c7 kinks should be worked out and the c7r should be out so it will most likely even perform better. I'll just take a loss when the revision comes out. Corvettes tend to hold their value pretty damn well so I'm not too worried. I only plan on keeping one from each generation, except the c1s and c2s because I'm not rich. :(

They don't really care about volume I don't think. It is worthwhile in the $40k range.

The new SRT Cores are like $5k cheaper than the existing SRT models, those will put some price pressure on this at 415hp.

hot damn!  that's fucking awesome.

Word. They are insanely hard to find, so I pounced right on that one. It is the optional higher-grade stereo, my car was not factory equipped with it. And the guy I bought it from had some crappy late 90s stereo in there with no original retained.

I am going to hook this up just for the clock and then get a pop-up touchscreen media thing underneath the dash where the ash tray is. Until I get that rolling I can use it at the radio. Looks like it is mint.

I also found this website that reproduces period-appropriate window sitckers for vehicles, complete with options and dealer info. So I ordered two laminated copies for $56. I also photocopied the original bill of sale that I have and I am going to get that photocopied too.

I am showing the car at LI Cruisin' for a Cure in September if anyone wants to see it in the flesh.

And I stand by my criticism of Ford. Like all US domestic automakers, they make boring straight line driving cars for the generally dumb American public. I like the idea of both the Focus ST and Fiesta ST, but that Ford badge makes me wary.

Ford:
Fiesta ST
Focus ST
Mustang Boss 302
F150 Raptor

Chrysler:
lol
(okay, they also have the Viper)

GM
Corvette
Cadillac CTS-V

So no, I think you're just being crotchety and living by years-out-of-date stereotypes.  Every mass-market automaker focuses on "boring straight line driving cars for the generally dumb public."

I happen to think that Toyota is by far the most boring, bland automaker on the planet.  Except, whoops, even they have the FRS now which has gotten rave reviews, so even that would be a currently inaccurate assessment of them.

Fact is, pretty much every major automaker out there makes some solid, affordable/attainable, enthusiast-friendly vehicles (again, except Chrysler, lol), so you're constant " :yuck"-ing of domestics for no good reason is just silly.

Holy shit, all those cars you named are gross except for the SRS.

And what makes them "gross", considering that you've probably driven about as many of them as I have (zero), and they've all gotten rave marks from enthusiast reviewers?

Quote
All Scions and Lexuses are Toyotas, by the way.

I am obviously aware of that, considering that I gave Toyota credit for the FRS in my above post, knowing that it is branded a Scion in North America.  I stand by my previous statement.  Across all three brands, Toyota is the blandest automaker, apart from the new FRS and (obviously) the LFA.

One day you will drive on a twisty road in a small BMW and understand your ignorance.

Considering I have driven the Highway 1 from Santa Monica to San Fransisco, the Independence Pass through Colorado, and the 191 through northern Utah, I think I've gotten my fair taste of the joys of twisty roads, sir.

I test drove a 328 coupe when I was car shopping, for the record.  I really liked it, great handling, and silky smooth shift changes.  It was the choice I was stuck on before picking my Genesis.

Boogie, what's your dream car? Pretend you had unlimited funds.

I don't have "one" dream car.  If I had unlimited funds, I'd probably turn into Jay Leno, collecting supercar toys in my garage.

The shortlist would almost certainly include the MP4-12C, the 458 Italia, and perhaps the new Vanquish or V12 Vantage.

Of course, if it's unlimited funds and access, I'd probably have to go with the Aston Martin One-77, or the La Ferrari, dumb name and all.

Automatic Corvettes :(

They exist because (according to corvetteforum.com) older guys buy Corvettes and so many of them say their leg hurts from pressing down on the clutch all the time.  Seriously.  So they just take the automatics with paddle shifters.  I've been looking for another C6 lately and if I would just take an automatic I could get it for the price I want, but fucking standards are so rare.  Bleh.

The M3 comes with an optional 7 speed auto
The M5 doesn't come with a manual at all (nor any 5 series)
The M6 doesn't come with a manual at all (nor anby 6 series)

Nearly any modern sports car has an available auto, from Lambo to Ferrari on down the line. Many top-spec cars do not come with manuals at all, even as options, because modern automatics shift faster than any human.

Nurburgring times for dozens of domestic vehicles disprove your point.

That and you can't get a stick shift in almost any supercar these days, they're all paddle shifters.

I'm not jumping into this but I will say that automatics, and I do consider paddle shifters automatics, are just boring to me.  I enjoy shifting with a clutch and stick (:drool sticks).  Most paddle shifters you can just put your car in D and drive.  My '98 Mazda 626 had P, R, D and gears 1, 2 and 3.  It was still an automatic and paddle shifters seem like a fancier version of that to me.  No thanks.

I believe in the economy cars they use manumatics and in supercars it's a true semi-automatic transmission.  Most semi-autos nowadays can operate like a regular automatic transmission.  Truth be told though, I'm not sure about the Ferrarri's and other high end cars.

Most supercars these days use dual-clutch automatics, the exceptions being the lambo Aventador (robotized manual) and the Koenigsegg (single-inputshaft dualclutch) and they can all be driven in full auto mode. On regular consumer cars, dual-clutch is fairly common now too (VW/Audi group, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi and more) but regular torque-converter automatics are still prevalent. The general rule is of course, if it doesn't have a clutch pedal, it's an automatic.

This isn't about my taste, it's about the accuracy of the statement that domestic manufacturers don't make any cars that handle well or perform well on a track. While calling out two specific models that are lauded worldwide for just those characteristics.

I'm willing to bet that I have driven more types of car than you, regardless of my personal affinity for large V8s.

You drive a Korean knock-off of a sports car.

And what is "knock-off" about it?

More importantly, you seem to cling to nationality as if that alone accurately describes the quality or worth of the vehicle.  "American" and "Korean" are inherently dirty adjectives, and "Japanese" is an inherently positive one.  AV is right.  Your opinion on cars is essentially stuck in the 90s, no matter how much you protest otherwise.

Tell me again how you are less likely to find a manual in a Corvette than in a bunch of cars that don't even offer one.

If you do want to get personal, I think you could do a lot worse than a Chrysler 300 if you want something fun to drive. 90% of cars on the road are less dynamically capable and 95% of them are slower in a straight line.

I don't know, I think most manufacturers would be very proud to say that their car was made in Germany or Japan rather than South Korea or Mexico.

I think quality control mostly starts before manufacturing in the engineering and the testing phase but that's less regional.

Looking for a new car. It is a tiring and yet fun process in terms of research. I've only had one car: a 1995 Buick la sabre aka the Pedomobile because it totally looks like something a child abductor from the 80s would drive and mups gives me shit for it.

The thing is, I know jack about cars. I know about the domestic and import feud but I'm too ignorant to admit an opinion on the matter, though I'm pretty sure I'm biased against domestic due to my first car. I look at imports and there's a lot of options.

I'm saving up for a new vehicle as soon as I move out but I'm in the research period for now.

I'm actually considering just getting a motorcycle. It is cheaper for one, and more exciting for another. I was looking at Challengers the other month. I notice a bunch of motorists on the road have them and researching it, it seems to be babys first muscle car, but I can't help but love the aesthetic. Unfortunately the used price is a bit high because people overrate the car due to action films.

If you go for muscle are you looking for just a V6 or for the full V8?
