The point is that the colors are bright and not muted. The same is true for the actual in game art direction. Compared to IV's cover and the actual in game graphics this could help suggest a change in tone. Given all the things you can do in the game this is probably deliberate. Not only is the cover high in saturation, it is the most colorful GTA since Vice City. That means something.

Idiot.

The radio is awesome. The only problem with it is that it always plays the same song every time you get in a car.

Yeah it seemed like the track selection was really small, unlike Saints Row where I'd rarely hear the song I wanted. Hopefully that's sorted for GTAV

How was the multi in those games?

Yummy. I played the hell out of RDR. Jump into a Quick Match and it would cycle you through various playlists, you could just choose solo or team play, free aim or assisted, and then roll on from there. They added free co-op mission packs, and then a lot of compelling paid DLC stuff which was great. At first the Free Roam was pretty GTA IV-like, in that there wasn't much to do, but then they added some nice territorial stuff there as well.

MP3 I have really only just started, but it's a twitchy, high-paced version of RDR's combat, plus ability and weapon progression.

RDR was a big step forward from GTA's multi, and MP3's is a step forward and sideways from RDR's. It's likely going to be sweet in GTA V.

I know that, but the quality varies. San Andreas and the first Liberty City Stories had the best, but I was disappointed with GTA4's.

Yeah, San Andreas had so much crazy stuff to do. It will be nice if they've learned their lesson from RDR, and can incorporate content which isn't directly subservient to "Sam Houser's (Dan's?) Oscar-level narrative." I just want to run around and do stuff in that world!

Max Payne 3 is a lot of fun, but it's a linear shooter, with only minimal exploration and collectible stuff going on. Hell, the main thing tracked there is labeled "Grinds." That's pretty much what it is. But it's a different game than GTA or RDR -- Still, it doesn't make me hopeful about GTA V being more open and based in emergent gameplay, if they've decided that GTA IV had it right.

All evidence suggests they're trying to top San Andreas in terms of sheer content. Remember the IV pre release PR? "We aren't including planes and mini games because it doesn't make sense for someone like Niko to want to drive an ambulance and NYC doesn't have planes we have copters!"

They've done a 180 with V. With this game they're like "LOOK AT ALL THIS SHIT YOU CAN DO! Look what's back!!!! Look what's new!!!!! WAY BIGGER THAN SA. GUYS...guys? we're sorryyyyyyyyy!"

Whether it will top SA or not has yet to be seen. But there's hope.

The first parts of the game are really slow and hard to get into. It all feels so cheap and empty but after a while it suddenly becomes an awesome game.

I don't think so. I mean, the main thing they've released is story cinematic footage. It has the most bang, so they're showing off how great their cines look, how much RAGE can do now (presumably on a high-end PC), and they're certainly not regretting the 17M copies of GTA IV they sold.

I hope you're right that they'll add all kinds of side activities in, but I do not think they're feeling even in the slightest that IV was a miss in any way, shape, or form.

But Gay Tony and TLAD prove that they DO think it was a miss. They've even said they've made the driving in V less of a sim and more game-y.

You and I both know the only media footage rock star gives on gta games before release are story trailers spliced with game play. They've done this since Vice City, even GTAIII. If V reminds you of IV at all I have no clue what you're going on about. Compare the trailers yourself and you should see completely different mood.

I agree that the mood is different in the trailers for IV and V. I also agree that the gameplay tone of TLAD and TBOGT are different than vanilla/core GTA IV.

What can I say? I hope you're correct. I am remaining cautious, because Rockstar isn't perfect.

If GTA V multiplayer has the variety of Red Dead Redemption and the gear/ability progression of Max Payne 3, I might not play anything else for a year.

They have a whole other team working on the MP elements I'm expecting we'll see a massive progression of what they've done in both those games.

I know that the gangs element that's in MP3 will be brought over. I want an open world server room just like RDR where you can drive, fly, swim to your destination and pick what stuff you want to do.

I hope we hear more about the MP soon. New previews are apparently going out Thursday.

Yeah, but that's usually what the side characters are for.  I really like the idea of playing as multiple characters each with different perspectives on the city. I didn't considers that one would be so uninteresting to me.

This guy nails it:

I'm also pretty tired of the standard GTA 'haha look how kurazy the characters are' script and the tacky animations that go with it. I think it looked and felt off and outdated since Vice City.

It looks plenty crazy; maybe the Housers are returning to form, and this GTA will be over the top, and not lame, soviet-bloc cousin-dating, and unintentionally ironic existential angst.
