The Smash invitational was cool but if they had restricted it to Brawl characters and stages I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference TBH.

Still looks fun as hell though.

Not surprised. Would be nice to have footage though, 3D Pacman is usually an abomination.

I'm really hoping they don't shit the bed with online for those two games.

There's no way Splatoon ISN'T designed with online in mind. You need the gamepad for map, spawn controls and location jumps - and they're showing 4 v 4 on the show floor -- this isn't going to be a LAN party / system connect game, its definitely going to be online and decent. My only question is how far they'll go with the social stuff for it... I'd really like to see full voice chat for this one. At least for friend games... seems like a game that would be better with good communication

Mario Maker looks really good.

They should have built these commentators into Smash... sooo shit haha
\
STARS! STARS IN SPACE!

They should throw in some sort of clan support and spectator mode for Splatoon as well.

I think its either Majora's Mask 3DS, Metroid 3DS, or some new Amiibo game that interacts with the Wii U.

Apparently all the Melee fegs are complaining about the new Smash saying it isn't as good...even though they never played it.

Brehs.

Smash is fucking Smash.  Trying to make it a competitive MLG game is just stupid, so stop framing it in that way.  Smash is about making one nintendo character beat the shit out of another nintendo character.  that's all the depth that the game needs.

I played Smash today and this game isn't SSB4, it's SSBB2. The physics are virtually identical with how they were with Brawl.  :-\ :-\ :-\

Sakurai lied once again and ruined my entire E3. I hope he gets eaten by a tanooki.

Brawl gameplay is superior anyways. More aerial. Melee's metagame was too grounded.

Only thing wrong with Brawl IMO was tripping and character balance issues (Metaknight and Snake being so stupidly overpowered compared to anyone else, for starters.)

What the heck does this even mean? Sakurai used the same term before the game came out, but I don't see anything more "aerial" about the game at all.

Tasty

  • Senior Member
It's less punishing to attack in the air in Brawl, and characters in general are a bit slower on the ground so there's not as much incentive to stay grounded.

Compare the final Smash invitational match today:

To this random Melee match:

Characters barely go more than 2 inches off the ground, usually, instead preferring to run back and forth and hop slightly to minimize risk. In Brawl, there's less risk involved in jumping and attacking (and you also can't press down to speed up your fall), which allows more of the stages to be used. I like that.

Tasty

Also, totally had a brain fart and didn't even remember wavedashing until that video haha. Yet another reason ground combat was vastly preferable in Melee to air combat.

Andrex you're talking to people who only play Final Festination and turn off everything. You're talking to people who play Smash Bros like it was Street Fighter.

Tasty

  • Senior Member
That stuff trickles down to normal players, though. If you're skilled in your group of friends, you're probably skilled in the same way tourney players are - just to a lesser degree. I'm not a SmashBoard-er or whatever, never played a game tourney in my life, but even I can see why Brawl's combat is less land-locked than Melee's.

I was also answering Oblivion's question as to what "more aerial" means and why Sakurai would say such a thing; he was probably talking to hardcore Smash players.

Oblivion

No he's not. I'm a Melee feg who doesn't like those things either. I'm not an ultra competitive player. I just dislike Brawl cause it's slower than molasses in Winter.

Doesn't sound like he knows what it is, so even if it is that it's not like he'd be able to hype it as such.

Hyperbole? Perhaps. But just something to keep in mind. My friends and I immediately loved SSB64 and it was easily our most played game on the N64. With Melee, we clocked in over 10,000 hours since 2002. With Brawl, we stopped playing after the first day.

real talk: are there any ages he could have listed where you wouldn't have replied with this?

Not really, but it was a commentary on how the original assertion itself is entirely worthless. "We played X and Y, but didn't play Z, therefore Z is bad."

Great anecdotes, Oblivion. Here's one: my crew played Brawl far more than Melee or 64. Guess Melee and 64 were crap!

Personally, you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming back to Melee's gameplay and I'm glad the series has evolved past that, and Smash 4 is building on Brawl's evolution as a game series should instead of going backwards. They're ironing out the stupidity Brawl introduced and tightening it up into a more playable package.

You have gotta be kidding me...

I mentioned my playtime with SSB64 and Melee to show that it wasn't about me being a hardcore tourneyfeg. The point was to show that both those games were played constantly because they were fun, and a huge part of the reason why they were fun was because of their speed.

That wasn't supposed to be some objective, empirical evidence for why Brawl was a bad game, just the reasons why I personally didn't care for it. If you like Brawl, hey more power to ya. But as someone who didn't like it very much, you can see why I wouldn't be too thrilled at its sequel being just like it.

And the age thing makes no sense on any level. I like Melee way more than the 64 version. Shouldn't I like the 64 version way more according to your theory?

he's saying the older you get, the less appealing nintendo games are

this... this may be autobiographical on his part, thinking about the ages mentioned

It's more like, Smash is only fun with friends, and if your friends have fallen out with Nintendo then Smash is less fun.

Do you know how full of yourself you sound here? :lol There was really nowhere for the conversation to go after you threw this out.

Then again, it wasn't going in a great direction when you said Brawl's gameplay was "slower than molasses in Winter," either. Should have been the first tip off not to engage your opinion on Smash when you're so quick to resort to hyperbole. If you're going to make claims like that and then back them up with anecdotal shit, don't expect to be taken seriously.

I....what?

The point of that was to express my dissatisfaction. I really liked two games, and didn't like the third one, and to really drive the point home, I gave some context.

Seriously, it's not more complicated than that.

If you were that bothered with the molasses line, then you'd better leave this thread cause it's about to be full of Godwin really soon.

so pacman was also in that rumor, considering this is the third character they get it right, i'd say the rumor has a lot of chance of being true

for those that don't know the rumor says that other unrevealed character include chrom (some fire emblem dude), shulk (:yuck) and the chorus guy from rhythm heaven

pac-man was an even bigger no-brainer than palutena though.  namco is making this game.  i guess getting both of them right increases the odds a little.  i think chrom is a near no-brainer, too, but if Shulk shows up, well then... yeah, your guy probably had something.

the guy also got the mii fighter right, that one made it sounds like super fake because it's so so so fucking stupid

Hey, guys.

Funny that this page is talking about a new e-mail, because that's exactly why I'm here. Received one last night, but missed it in the mix of all this crazy E3 coverae.

But there's not much new about it, so I didn't think it was worth posting on the site.

I'll leave what it says here, though, in case you guys can use it in any way.

Basically, I was told that:

- Last E3 before game's launch (obviously)
- Participating characters: Pac-Man, Mii Fighter, Goddess Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men (none of these are new, obv, so I take he means these are the participating characters for E3?)
- There has been internal debate about keeping Lucas versus Ness, apparently Lucas is likely to get the cut
- Nintendo is planning post-launch character DLC, source doesn't like this as he thinks it's greedy

And that's it. This E3 should make or break whether this guy's the real deal. Let's hope for the best! =)

uhh, miis are in fucking *everything* from nintendo.  those annoying little shits even wormed their way into the sonic racing games.  on top of that, including them takes next to no work for nintendo.  they were definitely a no-brainer.

as an aside, fuck miis.  fuck them so hard.  i fucking hate them, i hate the way they look, i hate the way they emote and move, and i hate the sounds they make.  they are a fucking taint.  it's like iwata's diseased cock being rubbed over every fucking game nintendo releases.  i can't enjoy games that include them in any kind of prominent position.  i really hoped we'd have them behind us after the wii, but no, i think they're going to hang around, haunting games with their shittiness, never to excised until the host itself dies.

i know mii are in fucking everything but smash is a mascot fighter, mii are the mascot of what? casual gaming? bad idea's? nintendo awfull childish PR?
