I still have an old tv. Not butter knife old but it definitely has a booty. Sony crt tv. I'm going to upgrade to a flat screen this year, I swear. I'll just get a 32inch for my room I guess, I don't watch enough tv to justify something bigger. I just need it for sports, mainly, and Netflix.

I notice the colors and sharpness of Netflix is sooo meh on my tv lol.

Remember on old sdtvs when you'd hook up a video game system to it and the tv would be ruined with red, green, and yellow all over the tv?!

Had three tvs go through that shit!

I keep an old TV around for old consoles  :(

It's weird though. I pretty much only keep my nice TV around for football, wwe, and video games. I just canceled netflix cause I don't even use that anymore.

I barely use it either. In fact I'm behind on watching shit in general. Haven't finished the new Louie season even though I really enjoyed the eps I watched, haven't finished the new season of 24, can't get myself to try The Strain or The Bridge (both of which look interesting), etc.

I've never been this excited or antsy for an NFL season to start. And I'm also super excited about college football starting due to the start of the playoff system. I guess I can't concentrate on anything else, tv wise. Also Downton Abbey and Homeland return in the fall alongside football so I'm excited about that too.

Yeah, the nationalization of oil in Iran wasn't really a socialist ideological thing as much as it was a nebulous nationalist Iran should own its resources not more of these gorram foreigners type of deal. And the last Shah's and the "opposition" were more in agreement with modernization/secularization/Europeanization/etc. and deliberately trying to play all the powers off one another. Mosaddegh was basically trying to pull off his own little internal coup and the Brits used it to trick the CIA into intervening.

The Islamic Revolution rode to power on something similar (a kind of "independent Iran" platform) before going "hey remember when we said all that Islamic State/Rule by God's law stuff, we really did mean it brehs, shoulda read the fine print"

EDIT: A good example of Reza Shah's vision being similar to Ataturk was his demand that everyone stop calling it fucking Persia, it's Iran and has been for millenia dammit!

Not quite nebulous. To catch up with the West, many predominantly Muslim countries engaged in defensive developmentalism. (Modernizing to defend themselves from further imperialist incursions.) A problem with defensive developmentalism though was that it often relied on shortsighted crash financing of modernization with cash cropping, which not only further integrated these places into the global periphery, but made them incredibly vulnerable to market fluctuations as they were imprudent with government finances in these crash modernizations / expected cash cropping to be sustainable longer than it was. (The most infamous example, imo, being Egypt under the Pasha khedives. Think the Southern United States will never produce cotton again while building opera houses brehs. :lol)

So, while realizing that modernization still needed to be done to restore sovereignty, and to inject this post with a touch of the Marxiness, in Iran the Pahlavis and their successors arrived at the intellectual antithesis to the failed thesis--import substitution industrialization. (I guess this should be contextualized against the larger anti-globalization movement that manifested as a kind of pseudo-autarky happening elsewhere. (cf. Nazism, Italian fascism) This was not a good time for internationalism generally speaking.) However, it was put it into practice with synthesis--crash financing the import substitution industrialization with the 20th century's version of cash cropping: oil exportation. (Reza Shah also expropriated a lot of land from ulama and landlords, which was probably not the smartest move in retrospect.)

While the Iranian Revolution did ride in on an anti-imperialist wave, it wasn't quite the same sort of one. It was of a cultural and intellectual sense, not so much a bureaucratic or economic one. While there was a broad coalition of groups that overthrew the Pahlavis, the faction that eventually won was able to win because it could muster the broadest base of support by appealing to cultural authenticity (the anti-imperialism I spoke of previously) and to urban bazaaris who had risen in prominence as the populace was extensively urbanized by import substitution modernization (ulama tended to be drawn from this socio-economic group). I don't think this broad coalition had any illusions about the kind of people they were putting in power, ulama had been part of their everyday lives for quite some time, whether it be as their religious or commercial leaders. (Ulama would oversee contracts, that sort of thing.)

The people who got duped were the other factions of the revolution, but that's the dangerous game you play when you play at revolution.

I feel the same way about football, cannot wait for it to start. Sucks I'll be working Sundays but at least I work from home so I can have the games on in the background.

Actually it worked for me all season. Someone kept posting a new code every week, exclusively for the Coli, and I used that well into the playoffs.

This season I'm probably going to probably just buy the Sunday ticket.

btw we're going to run a fantasy league again this year brehs, so jackfromstatefarm and nachobro...make sure to get in on the action. I know our NFL thread isn't nearly as busy as the GAF one but it gets pretty damn fun during the season.

Foremans were fine in college before I really knew better, but nowadays I'd rather even brave the shitty NY weather to grill than use one of those. Getting rid of the fat = getting rid of the flavor, and when I tried to cook a steak on one of those it ended up tasting like leather.

Also I've heard some anti-Foreman people that teflon causes cancer  :hans1

I wouldn't cook a steak on a Foreman but it's good for chicken breasts/thighs and burgers

Also I just like that I can toss some frozen shit on there and it'll be good to eat in a very short time, for when I forget to defrost meat ahead of time.

I burned myself out on Foreman cooking in college. I'd come home from class, throw two chicken breasts on there, boil some mixed veggies, and sometimes make some mashed potatoes. That was life for more than a year...until I just snapped and sold the Foreman to a friend. I just couldn't do it anymore.

I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon. Sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious. It's good for me. It's a perfect way to start the day.

She's over 30 and just had a baby man. That's life. Let her live.

She'll lose the weight in time for her next movie or show. That's how things work in Hollywood.

That being said, non rich white chicks do tend to age poorly brehs. And you know I love milfs but it's true. The face starts going first. Meanwhile black don't crack until 40+ usually.

Most non-rich white chicks age poorly because they fake bake frequently, eat like shit, drink lots of alcohol, and don't get enough sleep.

As I get into my 30s, I'm watching all of those above things for myself, like making sure I get a full eight hours of sleep, little or no alcohol, and eat a pretty strict diet.

You and those girls should add moisturizer on top of that list of things to do. You will age much better.

Do you recommend a starting point?  I wouldn't know where to begin.

Well i have a preference for cocoa butter lotions for obvious reasons. But I suggest going to the lotion aisle as Walmart or something and sample them. Sample feel, sample texture and thickness, sample smell. If you can't find something good, St Ive's and Cetaphil are good starting points.

A lot of people don't know the correct way to put lotion on though. After you take a shower, I suggest pat drying so you leave moisture and small beads of water on your body and skin. Then immediately apply lotion. It should be the first thing you do dryer drying off because your skin will be dry of the moisture from the shower within three minutes of showering, and putting the lotion on seals it, so your skin will stay healthy all day.

If you have problems with oily skin and zits, look into a lotion or ask an attendant for one that doesn't clog pores or something.

Getting a tan from both the sun or a tanning shop is probably the main factor to age quickly besides genetics, I don't believe skin care products help a lot unless you have some specific conditions. I guess darker skinned people have some protection gainst the sun, so it would make sense for them to age better plus they obviously don't stay extra long in the sun just to get a tan.
