Ubi has historically sucked at open-world game design, but from what I've seen of Unity thus far it's looking like the game AssCreed 2 should have been. I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic, however if the game comes together as well as Ubi has been claiming then it'll probably be my GOTY and may replace the original as my favourite (yes, I'm one of those people ).

I do agree that 3 is the worst entry in the mainline series thus far: it's more buggy than usual, the setting isn't architecturally or aesthetically interesting at all, and traversing the frontier during the winter is an exercise in frustration.

The American frontier isn't the problem. The problem was the story was hugely rushed, the game was bugged (to where 100% syncs at time were impossible) and the ending was so damn stupid.

I honestly don't have a problem with Connor and his "one-note" "HAVE YOU SEEN LEE?! I NEED TO KILL HIM!" quest. I did have a problem with the rushed story and the game wanting to stop me from playing it all the time.

AC3 also tried to reinvent a lot of shit that the Ezio trilogy had already nailed down to a science. Like, they made it so viewpoint synchronization wouldn't reveal the entire map, but you'd still have to physically wander around to fill out empty spots in it, sometimes revealing stuff that you'd 100% miss otherwise cause the game doesn't even lightly hint that its there. The fuck is the point of having the viewpoints at all then?

I'm completely fine with the auto-platforming. I agree that the collect-a-thons have become very grating and wearing me down, though.

Yeah, that's another thing that drives me crazy. AC4 didn't really fix it. Sure, it shows you the towns but some... like... Edwards hideout(?) doesn't show the full map so if you zoom out the island still has some uncharted areas and then you pull out to the "big map" and can't even see if you can go back to the southern side of the map where you could go for the start of unlocking that area. So you might have missed some shit there because the map wasn't revealed at the time. It drives me bonkers.
