Alright, I'll kickstart this game, sure.

While I wait, what's the best Gameboy Advance / ds / 3ds Castlevania... looking for action rpg ala Symphony of the Night, mainly.  Amazon has em all pretty cheap when I checked earlier.

Aria + Dawn

I say play em all tho. Gobble that shit up like it was your midlife crisis.

none of them are bad games except harmony of dissonance. that game is pure ass and would be the worst castlevania if those old game boy games didn't exist.

as sure as I am that this will be mechanically sound, I never figured I'd miss A. Kojima's art for this kind of game as much as I do here.

I'm sure it'll be fine in the long run, but I'm really missing it so far.
Apparently Wii U is in the basement.

Like always.  :gloomy
this thing comes out in 2017, are we even sure the Wii U will be a thing by then? It could come to the whatever Ninty platform is out by then, but nobody is banking on a long Wii U lifespan.

The Kickstarter made mention of a sword-whip.

Its grind-city only if you have the masochistic compulsion to get every single thing in the game/try to clear Hard mode/do DLC stages. Otherwise, it's stll a fun romp, though very obviously designed to be played with multiple people at once. It's pretty neat seeing how they ripped all the different character's mechanics straight out of their respective games, like Soma having a different soul for every single enemy, Shanoa absorbing spells that enemies cast and using her floaty anti-gravity rings, etc.

There's only like six maps/chapters in the base game, with like one or two extra maps that used to be DLC in the 360 version, two difficulties to each.

Edit: Bloodstained broke another stretch goal and is on course for hitting local co-op. Ain't stopping this train.

I dunno. PS3 gave me the seventh chapter. Already unlocked the other six before it thanks to online players totally blowing through the map in five minutes while I'm a beginner Soma.  :lol :-\

2017 is probably when their next system will hit, yeah, going by SNES → N64 → GC → Wii all being 5 years apart. (NES → SNES and Wii → Wii U are the only gaps to break the trend at 6 years, apparently.)

Maybe they'll release it for their next system then? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've never beaten Ecclesia after like 4 or so attempts at it. Just lose interest, which is really weird for me and these games. I've completed Harmony like 5 or 6 times now (it's like a lesson on how not to design video games, but I still enjoy it).

He mentioned in the FAQ that he had to choose between making the best and biggest game he could and making it available for every platform, so he picked the former.

Basically, wait for the stretch goals for extra platforms.

Harmony of Despair during its heyday was a blast. Broken Somas everywhere that could glitch through everything with his souls all while spamming Muramasa and Claimh Solais +1, Shanoas grinding spells for all eternity cause fuck spell levels but beastly once they actually got anywhere, Alucards acting like they were as good as Soma with Valmanway +1, all the Belmonts pretending they were any good.  :rejoice

It was pretty much a pseudo MMO with all the grind that went on. Also, the PS3 version never got the final patch that actually fixed Maria, so its possible to buy a DLC character that's 100% useless.  :lol

That game was certainly a blast, I would love to have another game like it someday.

Sadly it was the only non-Classic Castlevania game I've ever played. I'm looking into fixing that lately though, I have been thinking of getting SOTN. That's on the PS1 classics right? I'd love to play that on my PSP.

The character designs are absolutely terrible.

When it really comes down to it, only Aria of Sorrow and SotN are really worth playing, but I'm a sucker and willing to give infinite chances based off of SOTN alone.

I'm hoping the better schedule, higher budget(?), the fact they're going with polygon (cheaper/efficient), and how he seemingly has more creative freedom will enable him to put up his best work yet.

If he squanders this, I don't think he'll ever recover. At least for my he won't.

E3 Demo keys have started going out to Kickstarter backers.

Just played through it and was pretty satisfied-- it's classic Igavania with a good atmosphere and very CV-style music.  Controls and game play will feel right at home as well.  The boss you fight has ridiculously-oversized gigantic boobs.  That was the only thing that seemed totally out of place.

played through the E3 demo, really took my time doing it (29 minute clear time).

So far, its good. Its still clearly very early on, but the fundamentals are all there and all solid so far. The graphics ain't top-of-the-line awesome, but entirely adequate, the music is pretty ace tho. I have no reason to think that this whole thing won't turn out just fine, hell, just releasing the demo at such a large scale (over 40K people get to pick it apart) shows that they're pretty confident about their progress and where they're be able to build from what they have now.
