Been in a mostly shitty mood lately, but the order of the posts leading up to this made me laugh.

But yeah, sorry Bork. :-\

Thanks, guys.   :)  I was relieved to hear he went in his sleep.  We knew this was coming and he managed to hang in there for several years after doctors said he only had months left to live when he was hospitalized for something some years ago.

Am pretty concerned about my mother's emotional state right now.  My parents, brother, and sister-in-law are all in Paris right now and I know that my parents at least are cutting the trip short and coming back Wednesday.  The funeral is on Thursday.  It's probably going to hit her hard since she was the one taking the most care of him, even after he was moved into an assisted living facility.

I always felt like he was ready to pass on, especially during the last few years.  He was never the same after my grandmother passed away 10 years ago.  I'm not the religious type, but if there is an afterlife, I hope he's been reunited with her and they are happy again.

I washed all my dress socks last night. Since I didn't feel like sorting them, I tied the pairs together. Threw them in the dryer after that and went to bed. Needless to say I woke up and realized all the socks are still wet, whereas the clothes I also put in the dryer are dry. So I'm at work wearing wet socks.

Around 7pm when I was driving out to campus for the second time, I felt so exhausted I was going to collapse. I made it through the meeting, came home and was ready for a nice early night. Now it's 1:50 am, and I can't get to sleep. I'm determined not to use alcohol as a sleeping aid, but it may come to that :(

One of my friend's friends has gone missing.
She's a young latina in her 20s and there's no trace of her. No credit card activities, no cell records, no sightings, nothing.
She's been gone over a month, but everyday I keep seeing my friend's facebook page with more posts about vigils and searches and all that.
For the first couple of days I was hoping they'd find her. But now it sorta feels like they're just looking for a body.  :-\

I'm thinking that maybe I should start an Official Bore Ennui Thread: for when your struggles are more than just a mere inconvenience, and your inconveniences are real struggles, but not like someone just died or whatever.

I made that thread, but before I hit “post,” it just felt like eh, whatever.

It was a (bad) joke based on my insensitive post right above yours.  Sorry.  Unless you find it funny, then I'm not sorry.

1)  My dog is completely wrecked and I'm heart broken over it.
2)  Have to make slides and a poster for a conference for work that I'm completely embarrassed about.  Told my supervisor I'd get have then done two weeks ago.  He's pissed.
3) The electric company tried to charge me 300$ for one months electricity.  I have spent like 4-5 hours on the phone with them trying to fix this along with other problems they have caused.  A supervisor was suppose to email me but never did.  This last bill looks like they fixed the disputed charge but I have no idea what was the problem because they stealth fixed it.  So I have no idea if I will have to harass them again next month when they fuck up again.  Their call center is full of incompetent people.
4) I tried to book a councilor.  My healthcard is out of date and its going to be a bitch to solve because I moved out of province.  They can't even get me in for an assessment for 2 fucking weeks.
5) I'm so fucking angry at the world and myself right now.

Taxes and the way they're explained (or not) in financial statements are a fucking mess. I have no idea why anyone would want to make a career out of this shit.

Ah OK. In tax accounting you have to reconcile book and return differences (for entities above a certain size) on the tax return so I'm sort of desensitized to the parallel nature of it. Accrual, non-tax basis books (so anything relevant) are the deep end.

I have MACRS and ACRS puns in my repertoire.

E: I'd love to get in on the creative side but you probably need a M.S. in taxation to get in the door. :shaq2

My dog has been reportedly limping a bit when going for long walks.  I have never seen this since said long walks are always done by my wife or my mother.  If I walked the dog 30 minutes or so, she's fine.  The dog runs and jumps all over the place daily.  I suggested that maybe she was hurting herself because she sometimes slips on the hardwood floors in our place when trying to jump up on the couch or the bed.

So we bought some rugs last weekend.  Stuck one halfway under the bed and put the other in front of the couch.  She has more traction now although I'm told she's still limping on walks.  I have no idea what the fuck they are talking about.  My mother, worried, makes an appointment for x-rays at the vet.

So I say "has anyone tried walking the dog without the harness you guys always force her to wear?  Have you ever thought about why the dog hates it so much and runs away when you take it out?"

My wife goes and walks the dog for over an hour.  No problems.  Everyone is like :ohhh.  I really want to know why the vet didn't think to suggest this.  :-\  The dog went in about a month ago and was prescribed meds that were clearly not needed.
