Too sterile and minimalist for me tbh  :doge

Plus white furniture? Yeah no...

Yeah, way too sterile. Screams "single dude with disposable income."  But I have a 1932 brick Tudor. He's probably want to tear it down for another 50-story glass tower.

I frequent the Vancouver GAF thread. He's always come off as more concerned with name brands and appearances than being a real human being. Oh well.

His avatar used to be Peyton Manning. Always wondered if a mod changed it to Bateman...

I tend to prefer older buildings but I like "modern"/"sterile" apartments and architecture if it's done well. it's just usually not.

Yeah, and they're all pretty damn awesome. The amount of functionality, speed, and build quality for the price you get these days is off the charts, yet already we have nostalgia fetishists longing for the days of Blackberry and the Ngage. Get a life and get some perspective, losers.

While Tabris can be an absolute arrogant ass, a lot of feelings were caught in that thread from various gaffers.  :lol

that's what makes the thread so great. gaffers going apeshit over being called boring by some internet stranger that 99.99% of them will never meet.

I'm still on the fence as to whether Tabris is trolling or legit.

It's both.  It doesn't take much to rustle GAF's jimmies.

I think spending $200 on a dinner is a waste of money but he's posting this on a board where people show off owning hundreds of video games (many of which were purchased at or near full price) and showing off their water cooled PC gaming rigs designed to squeeze an extra few frames on a game that nobody will give a shit about six months from now.  Wasting money is what GAF is all about (that and whining about shit) so it's funny to see them draw arbitrary lines in the sand as if their wastes of money are somehow better than his.

His apartment looks awesome because of the location/view.  There's really not much inside to go "wow" over.  I tend to take a minimalist view with home decor myself, but his place is seriously sterile even by those standards.  I guess dude has money, although he says his place is $500,000 (Canadian, so that's what...$400,000?  :doge) and if you check the pictures, you'll notice it's actually a really tiny little one bedroom place, with the kitchen taking up most of the living room space.  He usually makes posts that make me wonder why he wants to spend so much money on things that could be had for less, as if people actually care.  There are other GAF members with similar setups to his, but their places look A) a lot cozier/have character and B) likely cost half as much and look much better, furniture/decoration wise.

I still like his place, though.  That is my kind of thing, but I'd opt for a larger place for that kind of money, away from a downtown area.  Places as fancy as his go for $300,000 or less around here.  But I guess that's the difference between Atlanta and Vancouver.

One thing to remember OP(and a lot of folks make this mistake(

Generally "MOE" has gotten confused for the "kawaii", cute girl design archetype, when "moe" as a term can mean anything palatable to a select audience in terms of archetypal characterization, and it settled on, in the modern context being what we know commonly see in anime.

I blame Kyoani generally speaking with populaizing what we now see as that. WIth their adaptions of Kanon, Clannad, Lucky Star, Haruhi, K-On! Ect.

Those types of series(as well as series like Oreimo) essentially popularizing the Otaku demographic, until they were really the only ones that were catered to in modern days.

And it took over the brains of literally anyone who chased after a crazed audience when designing media, and here we are.

the thing about tabris is that all he ever talks about is WHERE he went and HOW MUCH he spent on food. he's the classic fake "foodie" who goes to restaurants because he's heard that they're good and because he thinks that's what someone in his position should do. literally every single one of his experiences is a list item. he never expands beyond that because there's no depth to his persona. i feel for the girls he takes out on his multi-course meals because that just means they have to spend extra hours listening to him go on and on about the things he's done.

it's the same syndrome that causes 1000 fights, but to be honest i'd prefer 1000 fights because at least lore is making up an interesting story.

Quote from: Tabris;186850058
Since people on complaining about not giving examples. Example Vegas trip:

- Get to the airport Friday morning and grab breakfast there.
- Enjoy some mimosa's on the flight.
- Arrive and check in the hotel, usually somewhere like MGM Grand.
- Get some shopping done, maybe pick up new sunglasses as the weather is amazing.
- Grab some lunch at a place like BURGR
- Head to Wet Republic (pool bar) which usually has some awesome DJ playing. Plus I absolutely love the concept of a pool bar.
- Go back up to your room to get changed into nice formal wear, maybe a suit (gotta suit up in Vegas in my opinion but some people don't like wearing suits).
- Go to see Zumanity by Cirque Du Soleil
- Go get dinner at Nobu which is De Niro's Japanese fusion restaurant and is amazing.
- Hopefully you've added some new people to your entourage during Wet Republic or between clubs so you're getting to hear and participate in a lot of new and interesting conversations.
- Club hop between places like Marquee and Hyde Bellagio
- Somewhere in between probably played some blackjack or craps and maybe won some money.
- Go back to your hotel room and have sex with your girlfriend.
- Fall asleep.
- Repeat same kind of schedule with mixed up people, venues, and events (maybe a different kind of show, or maybe rides at places like stratosphere)
- Fly back home Sunday morning. Hopefully early enough that you can just relax back to watch NFL games (or late enough that you can watch the NFL games at a bar while playing video poker chatting with your buddies). And then finish up chilling out and playing some video games that Sunday night.

All of the above occurred a couple blocks from each other.

Highlights described in this thread by parents:

- Watch some kids run around on a soccer field
- Fix things around the house
- Smoke a brisket
- Make breakfast for the family Sunday morning

Quote from: highrider;186854861
That's just a weekend of drinking. Sounds like you have lots of disposable income,  but it's not interesting.  Pretty pedestrian stuff. If your going to go in on parents with such broad generalizations,  I kind of feel the impetus is on you to be a little more advanced in your game.  I mean,  Vegas is about as middle of the road in terms of interesting as it gets. It's a carnival cruise on land.
Quote from: Dude Abides;186856613
Lol OP is impressed by Nobu.  Sweet country mouse.
Quote from: CaptainAhab;186856853
It's DeNiro's as in ROBERT Japanese fusion restaurant. It's amazing. It has a set menu. It's a more exciting way to eat than learning how to cook. I like to go there with my interesting and drunk 20 year old gf and talk about which brand name items we bought in Las Vegas, and which pop songs we will 'ironically' karaoke before going home to watch NFL and post on GAF about how other people are boring.

These days everyone is taking the road less traveled, so I like to shake things up by taking the road most traveled. It is exciting because when I consume mainstream American entertainment, I do it at a moment's notice.

Also, I play video poker.
Quote from: CosmicQueso;186868070
Listening to someone talk about their trip to Vegas is up there with listening to someone talk about their fantasy football team.

And running around Vegas jumping from restaurant to club, talking about nothing, thinking nothing, just drink to drink and empty person to empty person is a vapid experience of scale.

Talk about boring.  And I despise kids and am not a parent.

Vancouver's housing prices are all out of whack.  This house is worth $1.7 million CAD http://www.homes.com/property/3544-w-17th-avenue-vancouver-bc-v6s-1a1/id-241142173/

Honestly his setup can be done for pretty cheap.  If you look at his past threads, he's had the same furniture and setup for years now.  A white collar worker at his first professional job making $50k a year should be able to swing this (adjust for COL in places like NYC and SF of course).  Vegas trips are dirt cheap.  Honestly his lifestyle can be done on $60,000 a year (again adjusting for COL) and that includes the occasional $200 meal and impromptu Vegas trip.  He also talks about being in credit card debt.  My belief is that he isn't really a baller, he's just another young professional who is overextended and probably will panic when he hits 50 when he realizes he has almost no money to retire on.  Him bragging about his splurging is covering up the fact that he thought he'd be a lot further along (salarywise and careerwise) than he is right now.

I'm not gonna throw stones at Mr. "Best Story Since the Renaissance" Tabris, since I'm in my mid 30's, still unmarried, and dating a mid 20's girl. People get a late start here and my circle of friends have just started to get married/have kids, I feel there is shit I wanna do (travel more, develop a game) before I 'settle down'.

Though it's not my place to say what friends should/shouldn't do with their lives, or call them 'boring' because they'd prefer staying in instead of going to bars/clubs. Thankfully, when a show I want to see is in town, I have people who are willing to go. And I appreciate going outside and smoking a brisket as much as I do dancing at Verboten till 4AM.

And my apartment is even more minimal than his... it's so mnml it'd give Ricardo Villalobos a boner :P

Also far as furniture goes it's just chocked full of expensive shit with no rhyme or reason, cluttered. Like in the dining room area I seem to recall just a bunch of barcelona and eames chairs just huddled together. You know shit that pops up literally if you just google "expensive chairs."

And the frames on the wall are just some random shit white matte framed to look more appealing.

It's not a matter of having similar interests or experiences as him, though.  I like a lot of the same things that Tabris likes:  Modern furniture, going out to nice places, etc.  The difference is he's actively shitting on people who are focused on getting their families going and is an unrepentant douche about looking at things from any other perspective than his own.  Which is narrow as fuck.  He's boring and insecure.

That's just a weekend of drinking. Sounds like you have lots of disposable income,  but it's not interesting.  Pretty pedestrian stuff. If your going to go in on parents with such broad generalizations,  I kind of feel the impetus is on you to be a little more advanced in your game.  I mean,  Vegas is about as middle of the road in terms of interesting as it gets. It's a carnival cruise on land.

Lol OP is impressed by Nobu.  Sweet country mouse.

:whoo

TBH Tabris has some great ideas for next summer's Bore Vegas meetup. :rock

Wet Republic sounds awesome.

That entire list sounds like a lot of fucking work.

Would rather smoke enough weed/drink enough to be tanked and then catch EVO 2016. Gamble on cheap blackjack tables.
OH!

Why does it matter? Is he hurting anyone?

You remind me of my sister. She refuse to buy me games cause I "have too many", even if a game is $5 and the store that has it is closer to her than me. Which is frustrating as hell.

Though I dont play near as much as I'd like too.
