I'm sure deep down Huelen also believes Ben Carson will rise from the ashes like a shimmering, radiant phoenix to save America with his flat tax

Personally, I'm still waiting for the return of Herman Cain's Sim City-inspired tax plan, Pokemon quotes, and promises of a pizza in every refrigerator.

The only time I'll put BobbyRobert's effort into a discussion about media is when people say MGS4 is good or isn't a flaming, diabolical turd that ruined the franchise for a ton of fans.

Or if someone says the later seasons of The Sopranos were boring.

Pretty sure Bobby is one of the most unlikable posters on GAF and that's saying a lot.

People in the StarWars forums got sick of him.

the problem arises when GAFers aren't actually having discussions with each other; they're shadow boxing the arguments from dumbasses on r/politics.

Poligaf becoming so entrenched makes a lot more sense when you realize a lot of them get heated reading Reddit and then shotgun blast GAF with their frustration
so just like this thread

I give it a year or so of LTTPs and RTTPs where the stalwarts attempt to dredge up old arguments while the rest of the troops have moved on the next internet social concern du jour.

Lack of Nintendo ar E3 is killing my hype

Any other big n fans feeling this way?

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the other companies and play there stuff too. So I check out there e3 stuff.

But Nintendo is the one that has the highest e3 hype BC you never know what they are going to bring. They have that Nintendo factor that lets your mind run wild and you get super excited.

Now with only Zelda, it's killing my hype. Zelda will be cool but it's Zelda. We kind of know what were in for by now.

I'm sure Sony and Ms will bring it but I'm finding the lack of big n killing my inner e3 hype train.

It's just not the same lead up.

The post reads bad but really there's nothing outrageous about the reasoning, within the confines is what is meant by "privilege". Being terminally ill doesn't change anything or a lot to which part of the social hierarchy you may be at (I'm cutting corners here for the sake of simplicity). The most ridiculous thing for me with this constant race to moral one upping is that Gaffers for the most part are in all likeliness disproportionately privileged in the grand scheme of things by virtue of being "First world" citizens with liberal access to the net and having time to waste on a videogame board.

I genuinely think the US leaders apologizing verbally and not much else is a incredibly empty gesture, but if the victims feel better in most cases, I guess it isn't a bad thing to do.

I don't know if there's a clear cut answer or synopsis that anyone can agree on 100% with the nuking of Japan. Whoever uses a nuke in the future though, prepared to be demonized for a long time  :doge

Personally I don't think an apology should be made.

We also helped rebuild Japan after WW2, which shaped their future and what they are now, for better and worse.

The same can't be said for any middle eastern conflicts in the last 30 years or so. Or, at least, there wasn't much rebuilding but we justified reasons to hate the United States to the tenth degree.

Not to mention they don't create their own technology. They refine ours. Which is fine but should be noted for discussion.

I am not a scholar, but all the amount of reading I made on the matter (and on strategic bombing in general) make a compelling case that the US rationale was pretty sound in military and political terms. Hiroshima debates, on GAF or anywhere else really, are filled with a ton of straight up misinformation or misunderstanding of the context of the war. The morality of it is a debate for the ages, one not lost on Truman that was pretty unnerved when he visited Germany after the war, but really the alternative was starving Japan even further, bombing what was left only with conventional explosives and repeating the horrible experience of Okinawa on a grander scale.

As for any possible Obama statement, I expect at best something carefully crafted to appear sensible to human pain and the lessons of history without appearing like an apology. The nuance of apologizing to survivors and not to the official institutions is way too minute.

To reduce it to bare minimum....Japan wasn't going to surrender. Not without us showing some type of power in which they had no counter. The choice was either go nuclear (which also was a message to Russia,  make no mistake) or have an entire generation of soldiers full of remorse for killing 13 year old boys defending their homeland.

It wasn't an easy decision. And perhaps a 2nd nuke was too much. But I think we can honestly say this outcome was better than the alternative.

Hell their best Admiral knew Pearl Harbor was a mistake.

I was watching some Netflix show about a karate instructor who came over after the war. He was taking to a friend about the drive from LA to Vegas being 6 hours. To which his friend said "why did we think we could beat them? Their size is unimaginable"

That was interesting.

people apologize for wartime decisions all the time, regardless of whether or not they're necessary

i don't think it's somehow unbelievable to say "this was a shitty situation and it was unavoidable, but if we could have avoided it we would have so we're sorry."

i guess that's the difference between remembrance day and memorial day though.  :doge

Agree but I'm with PD. We don't owe them an apology. Not one bit. They hit us first.
