First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

If you are not banned at this point you are supporting the regime

you can deny it, and most will, but its true, and I said it
It is pretty nice having an account. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Especially for new game OTs. They're a good resource when I have questions while playing through a new release.

And let's not pretend being involuntarily permabanned is some kind of moral stand for the greater good  :heh

I have an account in good standing. It's mostly used in community, though.  Evilore's least favorite aspect of the site since it doesn't generate tons of clicks and revenue haha.

Notice how the NFL thread is out of community now? That's all due to the clicks. NFL being insanely popular, that could be a drivers of uniques.

I don't blame EL being a businessman, but GAFfers are just clueless as fuck about it. They think it's just a fun forum.

Being banned doesnt make you a martyr. But comig here  with a driveby going "lol you guys deserved it, you were just shitposters anyway" is lame as fuck. Just becase you were a well behaved little boy on GAF and didn't catch a perma doesn't somehow entitle you to act like some kind of rebel on a board that doesn't restrict your freedom of speech. Take evilore's cock out your mouth  :lol

NFL is back in community, and it was only out of community temporarily due to the CFB thread  doing the same thing

Depends if his grand plan of boiling the frogs long enough so he can soften them up for Microtransactions while getting rid of the vets and industry people who might speak out against it works. He could drive up value even more and cash out.

He's not managed to Lowtax the operation yet (as in start posting on Kiwi Farms more than his own website despite being owned on the reg by the Kiwi Farms owner while leaving his own site to wither and die :doge )

I am actually kind of open to the idea of GAF-Gold as opposed to an ad-funded forum.

Lets say it was a $20 annual fee or $50 life-time membership, I would be OK with that considering the amount of time I spent posting there.

But I don't see how that would work with the current moderation policy of banning people for wrong-think.

So if EviLore is thinking along those lines to get away from the ad-block problem then allowing the current moderation regime makes even less sense.

As long as NeoGAF is free you can have a throw-away attitude but once you start paying for the privilege you want the fucking website to be an actual nexus of hardcore gamers and industry people and not chase everyone worth a damn away.

How NeoGAF even runs at this point is a mystery to me. The site is soooooo out of date and insecure. The fact that it hasn't been hacked yet is a god damn miracle.

Remember when EviLore said he had a bunch of "improvements" for the mobile site, which amounted to large, desktop-class mobile ads... and nothing more.  :lol

Remember when he bought SSL certificates, and switched over to HTTPS and broke everything?  :lol

Comedy of errors :lol

:point :comeon

Neogaf will never convert all of its userbase at those fees. Most likely scenario is the site having a free layer on top of whatever sub they sell. They need the manic creation of threads on gaming side & the traffic from lurkers using GAF as an aggregate of all news, I'd say the standing and relevance of the board stems mainly from it.

Could actually make it worse in terms to moderation double standards, shitty drama over bans and a core group of paid "elite" users brigading discussion at every turn.

I have seen a couple of videogame news site & boards make that switch (to subs but with decent access for free users) and it never ever improved quality of the forums, quite the contrary.

I don't blame EL being a businessman, but GAFfers are just clueless as fuck about it. They think it's just a fun forum.

I mean, that became fairly clear a few years ago when some people eventually noticed that many links were redirected via Viglink. Which was done in a completely stealthy way.

Despite what he says, the site has been tanking for the past couple of years. The recent Facebook / twitter thing wasn't just to modernize, it's to increase exposure in the hope to bring more users in.

Tyler really fucked up not selling it for millions a few years ago when he had the chance. He clearly thought he had a few more years to raise the asking price, not realizing that the site was going to drop off hard, and now no one gives a shit. It's not like he didn't sell because he cared so much about the user base. And now he'll be lucky to get even half of what IGN was offering him 2-4 years ago.

Yeah, I doubt this was real. Or at least, not up to the supposed 5M or whatever.

Is GAF-Gold even happening still?

At Evilore's grueling work pace of 16 hour days 7 days a week maybe we'll see it in 2020?

Correction: 160h a week was the figure he gave. Which means 8h sleep per week. Obviously nonsense.

Forums are not a growth sector on the internet, especially highly exclusive ones, with vetted memberships and requiring work/isp emails.

Gaffers complain about YT and Twitter lack of moderation but those make money or are attractive acquisitions in Twitter's case because they accept anyone and drive unique users.

And younger gamer are about YouTube and twitch anyway.

Twitter is more "moderated" by the user in that you can make a feed from the people you find interesting instead of having to deal with threads that get spammed by everyone and promoted on the front page according to whoever posted last etc.

Heh, I don't think it has much of a bearing on it. By virtue of its size, GAF is now a series of piles one way or another and it's so unmanageable that it's easier to have segregated threads for the positive (the OT) and negative ones. I think there was no rewind back for NMS once it all went into a spiral, save for some massive content expansion for the game.

Sony going on record that Sean Murray's PR was less than perfect maybe was the signal to cut ties for some stauch defenders on GAF, though.

I'm all for fucking over big corporations, I know EA certainly has stayed up late at night over my wraith of taking advantage of their Origin errors over the years, but these are like fourth hand keys and NVIDIA's cancelled keys en masse before, come on some wife's sons.

I remember some guy who was selling I think what were Batman keys from NVIDIA on eBay for ten bucks or something and had a picture of proof where like a coffee table was covered with hundreds of the cards spread all over. And people were all "how could they?!? Greedy corporations!" when NVIDIA had the entire set completely wiped out.

Microsoft and Amazon should take care of this between themselves, and the people should get to keep their games. I don't know what would have hurt more, the profit loss from all these bad keys being out, or the reputational damage of showing everyone how we should never ever spend any money in the Windows store ever because it's run by incompetent people.

I don't know if the right time to teach your customers a lesson is when you're trying to make games on your platform a thing. If something like this happened in a retail store the outrage would have been enormous.

To be clear I did not buy this game and have not been scammed, but I was considering buying it in the future. It's going to take a long time for them to earn my trust now though..

It's funnier when evidence is brought up that Sony claimed they were helping PR a year before and were treating it like a "Full first party release" and then suddenly after the release they are blaming Sean Murray. For a company that GAF crows constantly about being great for developers and single handedly saving the industry from Microsoft and Nintendo (Who are evil poisonous snakes who kill developers and never contributed anything to the industry), the legion of Sackboy avatars sure had no trouble justifying when Sony threw multiple dev studios under the bus this gen like Ready At Dawn, Evolution and now Hello Games :doge

Getting some pop up add on Mobile telling me Blabla Virus. I think it's related to "Cam Scanners" or something. Site is almost unusable right now.

Looks like EviLore is using the shit-tier advertisers again.  :lol

But but but the site is free.

I'm withholding my judgment on Duterte's death squads until I know where he stands on the issues that matter, such as his opinion of the Ghostbusters remake.

The Alt-Right isn't going to die until Putin hangs. Duterte is yet another pawn like Farage, Trump, D.Duke, and Lutz Bachmann among a large list of Russian agents who belong in a cell for treason.
Probably the most sensible conclusion, it's the only one that actually makes sense truthfully.
