When all the dust clears on this election it sure seems like Russia had far, far more effect on this election directly than anyone realized. Maybe the democrats don't need to quite view themselves as losing touch with the American public if Russia directly changed or affect voting machines.

So the best case scenario is now Trump, his cabinet, campaign and Paul Ryan executed for treason and direct voter machine tampering found requiring a complete do over of the 2016 election.

I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not sure that this type of obstruction is enough for an impeachment to the full 2/3rds of the House and Senate. Most people think of obstruction as much more malicious: altering evidence, deceiving the police, etc.

Bill Clinton was impeached on obstruction of justice and perjury. By the letter of the law, he 100% broke it. If he weren't President, he would have been found guilty. And yet he still survived the opposition party's articles of impeachment.

You are right that what we know SO FAR is not enough pressure to make the GOP vote to kick Trump out of office, but I think the IC and FBI are basically going to keep investigating until Trump is gone. Like it doesn't even matter if Trump were to kick out Mueller, the IC and FBI would still continue their investigation and they would just ramp up the leaks again like they did when Comey got fired.

I think that's the big difference between these two situations: Bill Clinton didn't have the IC and FBI after him, just the republicans. Trump doesn't just have the democrats after him. He has our entire IC and the FBI going after his ass.

Everytime I complete working on a campaign (in this case, Tom Perriello) I celebrate by getting drunk with fellow political folk. Putting out feelers, seeing what's next, complaining, etc. Lots and lots of talk about Chris Murphy 2020. My general view about presidential primaries is you follow the money. Based on that, a few months ago I would have said that the names to watch are Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and/or Eric Garcetti. That's not to say those are who I want, it was simply the reality of Seattle/LA/Boston money. Now it sounds to me, just based on the conversations I've had (so by no means is this definitive), people are really cooling on Warren, and Murphy is replacing her. I've never been sold on Warren as a politician, and she's already partisan toxicity which I'm not sure people want a repeat of in 2020. Obviously no one could possibly be as divisive as Hillary was (due to decades of being attacked/framed/doing dumb shit/etc) but still, I don't think people want another heat shield running for president.

These hearings really give candidates quite the opportunity to audition nationally before even visiting Iowa. Back in 2006/2007 sure Hillary/Obama/Biden/etc got to go after the Bush admin in hearings, but it was nothing like this. Social media has really elevated the senators.
