3D collection is neat for me. Galaxy 1 is my favorite. Sunshine my least favorite, but probably best setting/vibe. #EmbarrassedGamerMoment, I never played Super Mario 64, and The Wii U port had some latency issues I think unless you were using the Wii U pad so held off again. Nice to see a version that will likely be properly handled and look nice on modern TVs I suppose.

3D World + Thingy. What is that extra thing? Hard levels? Just more levels where Nintendo devs go a little wild with ideas that were maybe cut from the intial release? I'm down for that game too if the + feature is strong enough.

3D World I'm not sure about, my least favorite. I was hoping they might do something with 3D Land given the Switch is a handheld and all but I guess no-3D is the dealbreaker there.

Overall though it seems like a fun line-up of products for all ages. The collectors and retro-gamers get a cool Game & Watch, kids can play with LEGO or Mario Kart toys and the All Stars collection is fun for everyone.
From the footage released it seems that Super Mario Sunshine got the most changes as expected.

Not a fan of Nintendo craving into the idea of Italians being white.

What changes were there in Sunshine? I last dabbled with it on my old Gamecube a few years back (maybe over 5 now) and didn't notice anything that seemed different in a noticeable way.

Mario 64 doesn't even have widescreen which a PC modder can make you in one afternoon and you think they touched upon the camera?  :foodcourt

tbf just hook your Wii back up through HDMI and you practically got this collection. :goldberg I imagine Sunshine in particular plays better too with the GCN controller.

Wouldn't that probably cost more? Assuming you didn't hold onto all your stuff for generations or are old enough in some cases (let's say said kid was 5 in 2006 and was the oldest kid in the family)

Buy digital copy of SM64 on Wii store (if possible still). Buy GCN copy of SMS on ebay. Mod original Wii or run it through a Framemeister (ok that's an asshole move from me. I know the Framemeister is very expensive). Buy GCN controller.

I mean shit I wish the collection cost $40 too. Really if Nintendo games followed Microsoft and Sony in dropping to 20 dollars within a year it'd be a lot easier to deal with them pushing $60. No doubt that part has sucked with Nintendo first party games for the longest time.

And Sunshine seems to still be 30 FPS, and detached joycons might be required for Galaxy since it’s too hard to program the right analog stick  :miyamoto

Switch Lite makes that unlikely.

Thinking of Switch Lite though. Can you connect other controllers to it? Cause you couldn't do co-op mode in Galaxy otherwise without the extra -mote. Though that seems pointless if you are playing on a small screen.

Game Sex Pain with some of the questions answered. Galaxy will function without waggle (personally it was one of the few games where I felt comfortable using the default, but I'm glad I can play handheld if I so choose without being greatly hindered)

Oh god. That reminds me. The X or Y axis for controlling Fludd in Sunshine. I need to be able to reverse it. Gamecube version I think only had one option and it was inverted controls. Never was able to adapt even with a playthrough and a half.

Happy for the Mario 64 PC port but the majority of screenshots I see from it use that god awful early 2000s CGI Mario model. I get that some people think “that’s what I saw when I was a kid!!!1!” but the new Mario models are so much better. If they could somehow pull assets from Galaxy and then add a new lighting system it’d look 10000x better IMO.

Lol at the outrage. Not sure why people expected differented, this has been Nintendo's MO for 20 years. The limited digital release is dumb but who cares. We are all Nerds who will buy this at launch or not at all.

Personally I am gonna enjoy Mario Galaxy for the first time, give Mario 64 a quick run through (fuck Sunshine) and then flip the game for a profit next summer. What's not to like?

Wait, do people actually care about that collection? I thought the unboxing video and stuff is supposed to be ironic for what are 3 old game roms for $60. Though I get buying it to resell if you want to make money because the limited run thing and Nintendo fans/gamers are crazy. I don't get the hype for such a low effort port package.

Nintendo's best selling console besides Wii (which it could overtake) + Mario games from 3 different gens = tons of coverage regarding sales. It's the best selling game on Amazon right now (beating out Avengers lmao).

It's just what they've done for anniversary compilations since the Wii days. The SMB All Stars SNES rom on a disc release and the Kirby collection were both also limited time deals. (You can still find either of them fairly reasonably priced if you want. :shh )

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Review

Mario Kart 8 is the best Mario Kart game ever.

Full confession: I've never thought Mario Kart games were top tier racing games. Don't mistake me saying they're bad games, because for the most part Mario Kart games aren't. But they've always excelled while in a group more than they did alone. Mario Kart games were always fun to that extent, but were never, ever on the same level as its contemporary peers. It has been outclassed by competition from Virtua Racing and Daytona to Jet Moto 2, Ridge Racer 4, Wipeout XL, Crash Team Racing. From Burnout 3, Colin McRae, SSX Tricky/SSX3, Outrun 2006 on down to Sonic Team Racing and Sonic Transformed. Mario Kart has never eclipsed the competition in terms of graphics, feel, and overall package. It's not a shock that the best Nintendo racer ever made wasn't even made by Nintendo but by Sega in F-Zero GX. Even lesser known racers like Initial D ps1 or Extreme Stage and Tokyo Extreme Racer line of games, I feel are better racing games than Mario Kart games.

MK games have either a wack presentation or bad feel (lack of speed) to make them appealing in the long run. I've never felt a Mario Kart game was a top tier racer due to this. Presentation matters when it comes to racers and Mario Kart games have never been there.

Compared to its competition it has been lesser.

vs

It's not even close.

It took over 20 years for Mario Kart to catch up in terms of overall visual appeal and aesthetic.

And then there's Mario Kart 8.

Truly the first Mario Kart that transcends the series as it turns into a fantastic racing game with excellent presentation, great sense of speed, and excellent track design. I usually play Mario Kart games for a few minutes on single player. I'll beat a cup and then turn the game off out of boredom.

But not MK8 Deluxe. I've been playing this game since I got it and have cleared the entire 150CC, which has 10 cups in just a few sittings.

For the first time ever I've been comfortable in saying a Mario Kart 8 is heads and shoulders a top tier racer that should have longevity beyond multiplayer. I've played it online and it's fun as shit. Even though the rest of the competition is mostly dead and Mario Kart is kind of the only arcade racer in the town now, it's still everything that embodies the greatness of the genre.

Fantastic game.
