Been playing Mario Rabbids, I'm enjoying it. Only unlocked Luigi who so far is absolute dogshit. Beat the first world, re-playing it again for the challenges / skill orbs.
Some of the crappy characters get useful towards the end. Luigi's double jump and sniper overwatch skill are both good.

It's hard not to be cynical about an $80 asking price for the box toys normally ship inside

And which can be destroyed by a humid afternoon

Or sweat
Apprently you can print out the models.

imagine if the $80 also went towards the shovelware

This is the most Nintendo thing ever

Unsurprisingly Nintendo fanboys love it

The box the cardboard comes in is cardboard as well so it's like an added bonus.

For about half the price, and $10 packs of just the cardboard widgets when needed (and new ones) this would be a pretty neat idea.

It looks like it would be fun to play with for a few hours, but does not look like you would get $80 of fun out. Do it.

I bought the Amazon cable to go with my iPad wall plug -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC

Just an update that I received this and tested it out with my iPad wall adapter, worked great here at work.

I mean they're charging $70 for the 3rd edition of their "pro" controller, 80 for redesigned wiimotes and 100 for a piece of shit plastic with a $2.50 usb-c adapter.
But we're reaching new heights.

imagine if the $80 also went towards the software

I think having software that’s useless without the cardboard box is the problem. IMO, the software should be free and then sell the cardboard packs for each game for like $10-$20 each. Basically an Amiibo like model of physical DLC. Heck, then sell Wii-style plastic versions for $50 for the real rubes.

Yeah, you could just go find the plans and make your own cardboard crap, but only the cheapest shitlords will actually take the time to do that.

Conceptually, I think the idea is great, it’s some sort of digital origami type stuff, but $70 for a game that is useless without elaborate cardboard props seems like a poor proposition.

Jesus Christ why are you guys still complaining about this shit. go to any fucking toy store and you'll see that they're filled with shit like this - edutainment stuff for kids that lets them build or make their own shit for fun. also the price doesn't matter because 1. all that shit is expensive anyways and 2. KIDS DON'T PAY FOR THEIR OWN TOYS ANYWAYS. seriously do you guys stand in build-a-bears and call parents sheeple because they can get bears at Dollar Tree instead? like seriously how can you follow the industry daily but still have the fucking braindead hot takes of a whippit-addicted 14 year old

No, I won't be buying it because I'm not the target audience.  Neither are you.  Nintendo clearly fucking indicated before this was announced that this was a toy for KIDS, and a play experience vs. gaming.  Also how is that price comment any different from buying, like, an 800 piece Lego set?  That's priced at around 70 bucks and it's just plastic bricks.

Making it a cardboard box based thing is stupid, in a way. Unless they sell replacement boards for a buck each or less, this will bring parents to the brink of bankruptcy. Eighty bucks, sheesh. Plus replacements, because even with stringent controls and handholding, this shit will disintegrate quite quickly, or never get built in the first place.

Other than that... I would have loved shit like that as a kid. Provided it takes longer than just five minutes until the cardboard is worn out. Which is about as long as my attention span would have lasted, probably.

Nah, it's gotta be hassle-free packaging. It comes bundled up with a string and a pretty bow on top. Just pull, and you have all the cardboard cutouts at your fingertips.

Good for the environment too (also, download code only, no cartridge).

Playing Rayman Legends for the Switch.  Never played Legends before and loved Origins.  I have about 120 or so teensies (?) out of 826 and I'm trying to collect them all and get the gold trophies in each level.  Origins was great and this game is more of the same.

I think I've bought Rayman Legends 2 or 3 different times on other platforms and never once played it.
But maybe I will on Switch.

How does it control with the analog?  I'm stuck playing in handheld mode most of the time but I can't use the "d-pad".

For example, I almost have a platinum trophy in steamworld dig 2 on the vita.  I double-dipped on the Switch version but I simply can't play it.  I'm too clumsy with the analog and trying the d-pad buttons was worse.

I'm a pretty new switch owner and haven't paid much attention to the news around it.  What's the likelihood of a legit d-pad joycon attachment coming out anytime soon?

It's the biggest letdown of the console for me so far.

Earth Wars dropped on Switch today. It's a port of the PS4/Steam game Earth's Dawn, but this time published by the developer rather than a third party publisher. It's only $4.50 on the eShop, rather than $30 on those other systems. The game itself is a 2D, Vanillaware-esque hack-and-slash joint, nothing super-polished or innovative but a fun time-waster.

I’m thinking about getting the Hori wired controller over the pro. Pro looks nice, but that hori controller sounds like it has good D-pad  and it’s like $25.

I've only played with the pro controller, which is the only way I play the Switch.  I see there is Murphy's Touch with over 100 teensies and requires it to be in handheld mode but I'll probably just skip it.

There is no way Nintendo implements a "proper" D-pad into a Joycon, breh. Sorry. They expect it to be able to be turned on its side and shared with another person for better or worse.
