Wish that we'd get a re-translation of Grandia courtesy of Gaijinworks.

Gaijinworks, as in Victor Ireland?

Let someone more capable of doing a good localization and not throwing in jokes about American TV shows handle, pls.  :doge

EDIT: Their next project is Class of Heroes 3...for Playstation 3?

Yeah, I have nostalgia for those cheesy political and pop culture jokes (though truthfully he had toned it down a LOT by the time Arc the Lad Collection released). Plus, the original Grandia script was pretty dry and lacking in the personality I'd expect from a game of that nature. (Maybe XSeed would be a better localization fit?)

Fun battle system that emphasizes positioning and decisions - do you delay your enemy with a light attack, or do a stronger attack?, colorful graphics with lots of environmental interactions, good feeling of adventure -
exploring ancient runs, pushing into the unknown. Decent Noriyuki Iwadare soundtrack.

Lots of stuff has copied Grandia's battle system that emphases positioning, turn queue strategy (delays and stuff), combos

Shadow Hearts 2/3 did
Trails in the Sky entire franchise did
There's plenty of others.

Trails in the Sky series is basically a modern day combo of Suikoden (country politics and arcs), Grandia (battle system) and Xenogears (religion and mecha). Pretty much why it's the best jrpg franchise currently.

Yeah, just give the tutorials some time. You'll have to learn how to paintball instead of relying on fireflies, and there's probably more menu cruft, but at the end of the day MH is still MH. I can see World people getting super annoyed with the maps being zone-based but if you can get out of that hurtle you'll probably gel with it really well.

GU's strength is its monster count though, so I'm not sure I'd recommend it to World newbies if they still have a lot left to do in that game. If you've run through World and are bored of the online, GU will serve up some fresh fights. :)

PS- The only MH games that aren't "real" are 1. MH Online (China-only F2P), 2. the Frontier games (Japan-only F2P), and 3. spinoffs like MH Stories on 3DS, obvs. :P (GU straddles the line between mainline and spinoff, but it's more of a "proper" MH than the F2P games.)

And even with Online and Frontier, the core gameplay loop is still dat satisfying MH arcadeyness, it's just buried under a mountain if F2P crap and some jank.

Definitely wouldn't mind picking up the Phantasy Star series for the Switch.

Actually, just port everything to the Switch. Even, like, old PC games from the 80s. Just whatever. I mean, I won't buy it all, but I at least want that option available for me.

Tasty, did you play Red Steel 2 on the Wii? I'm unsure about if a straight port would work, the first game easily would since it faked almost everything.

I thought the joycons didn't recognize the whole range as quickly because they record one less variable in 3D space? RS2 did a lot of blocking to shooting to sword stuff etc. with the big fights. It was one of the few times I didn't think you could easily emulate it on the PC.

Although I may just be too simple to figure it out properly.

Also I only played like three hours of it max...

I remember visiting the Ubisoft or Nintendo offices to play Red Steel 2 with their PR people. And it was just so bad it bored me to tears.

Red Steel still had that John Woo / Yakuza shit going on that at least made the setting interesting. Not to mention all dat jank. You could see that the developers had no clue what the Wii was going to be liked so they just developed 'something'.
I kinda miss janky launch games. No developer or publisher would release something like that anymore except Sonic Team (maybe) or some indies.  :doge
Red Steel 2 was cowboy dude in empty cowboy world fighting robot Samurai things and random thug-1. The controls were quite impressive though.

There was a rumor that Red Steel 3 was in development and would make use of the Vitality Sensor in some way.

You'd have to rework the game to change the swordplay though, the dual analogs would already be taken with the normal FPS functions.

ACTUAL GAMEPLAY:

Has any other game had a more deceptive reveal? I know this and last gen had some doozies but they were straight up printing mid-range (for the time) PC renders when the Wii could barely do 1/4 of that. :doge
