My choice for Mario Kart 8 was Daisy in the Teddy Buggy.

The MKTV quality was pretty damn bad.
That's actually one of the best options now

Exactly. This garbage only matters in time trials which only the most distinguished of nerds care about.

Everyone else is drinking beers and blasting shells.

I had a dream.

Nintendo will launch Switch 2 with Zelda GOTY addition that includes some trivial additions to the game but also a super powerful 4K mode.

Since the Switch 2 will be fully backwards compatible, everyone who already owns the game will say "Nintendo, can we buy this as DLC"

Nintendo will say "its not technically possible please understand, you must buy the new version for $80"

4 days later a group of hackers will show that the base game fully supports the DLC

Was Actraiser Renaissance good?  Loved the original.. Was so insanely jealous of that game being pro Sega back in the day.

Didn't care one bit for the remake -
-the art style was hideous, giving everything a sheen and a weird prerendered look, made it look like some lost Saturn game from '95.
-the game also forces you into mandatory tower defense sections that take wayyyy too long
-the game also is much more rigid in the simulation sections in how you can grow your city

The positives are - there's a new postgame area (though it's nothing too special) and there are a bunch of new tracks from Koshiro, that can be played in both arranged and SNES-style. Some of those tracks are really good (especially the theme of Aitos)

Gonna be honest... That Ascend ability is cool, but looks way too God mode-ish at first.  I hope there's dungeons designed around the ability, because that almost looks game breaking.  :lol    The fuse ability though?  Literal endless possibilities... This is insane.  I hope that fuse ability can be used to extend durability on swords you like without deforming the look somehow.  Hype is through the roof, but I hope it's not just more tech demo fodder on little humdrum puzzles littered about like shrines again.

As other open worlds remain static, Zelda finds a way to become even more dynamic  :whew
Big improvement on the draw distance too especially with the seamless jumping from the sky.

Nintendo could've taken the easy way by improving weapon durability like 5 or 10 times but instead they come up with a way to merge every object in the game so you can glue rocks to sticks.  :doge

Although I'd like the latter/traditional style as well, I'm almost concerned about the ascend ability rendering caves practically useless in ways.  Unless they just up and say "you can't use that here", which would be cheap as fuck just like the lack of climbing in shrines in BOTW, it's hard to fathom how they'll design them to be fun to explore without breaking the game.  Maybe I'm just worrying too much about it, but my curiosity of it is driving me nuts.   :existential

I think overall, I'm afraid my perception of LOZ, as it seemed to always be, is starting to fade.  I guess it's good to evolve, but this entry may be the tipping point for me.  At least Mario stuck to it's platforming roots and kept it just that.  Zelda has never been about crafting.  Having conflicting feels.  :doge  I thoroughly enjoyed LA more than BOTW.  It's what LOZ should always be.  At the same time, DQ Builders made the approach tolerable and deliberately put the building front and center; no shame, and then built the combat and exploring around it.. and it worked fantastically.  Feels like it shouldn't be the other way around.  I dunno...  coffee and moving stress is surging right now as I write this.  :lol :doge

Ideally they’d continue making classic top down Zeldas to supplement this new direction. We’re coming up on a decade since Link Between Worlds. That was followed up by some coop action game. Link’s Awakening had a fine remake and people assumed the Oracle games were next. That was four years ago.

TriForce Heroes deserves another chance with good netcode and some tweaks, I'd be up for that being brought over in the LA remake engine.  Or just another stab at multiplayer Zelda.  It could work, I'm certain of this!

Apart from the above though, I think it would be neat if they were to continue making top-down "zeldas" but with a brand new IP.  Gives more freedom to explore outside the lines of lore and mechanical mainstays/conventions.  I know the indie scene has started covering this kind of territory as well...but Nintendo is still Nintendo, and capable of a lot more because of it.

True..  they can be hit or miss...  Them releasing a game like Metroid Dread gives me hope that they see there's still a desire for their classical approaches with still massive amounts of fun and potential.  It would be a waste for them to use that LA engine for just that entry.  I would take any Zelda in that fashion, whether it be a remake or a completely new adventure.

The original plan was for Link's Awakening to release in 2017 for the 3DS but it eventually came out in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
I'm certain they'll do another 2D top down Zelda considering it sold really well for what it was and better than Age of Calamity which kind of bombed all things considered.

Nintendo usually drops their 2D Zelda games in between the 3D ones after all.

There's already rumors that Mercury Steam is working on a new 2D Metroid game slated for 2025 and Next Level Games is remastering F-Zero GX for a 2023 or 2024 release.

That’s what’s frustrating about Link Between Worlds. After the unfortunate DS Zeldas, they put out this great traditional game. They still got it. But didn’t and aren’t using it.

As for a different IP carrying the torch, once again the consequences of Japan never adopting StarTropics have been catastrophic.

My impression was that it requires there to be a flat surface/plateau above the cave for that ascend ability to work. So a way around that would be to locate all of the deep caves under mountain ranges where there are no flat areas. Can't ascend onto the side of a mountain. They might be able to throw in a few spots here and there where it works as a kind of fast exit from a long cave.

I wish I just liked the audiovisual style of Elden Ring a bit more. That was basically the natural evolution of BotW. i.e. taking the free exploration, but making it worthwhile/rewarding with real dungeons and unique treasures that don't break after 2 minutes.

Guess Zelda wanted to take a different route by aiming to compete with Roblox videos on YT. Not sure how we got there.

The strength of Breath of the Wild was to complete a challenge in whatever way you liked.
You could find the metal cube object to redirect the current, toss a bunch of swords on the ground or set fire to logs to create an updraft and simply fly over the door.
If you wanted to travel somewhere you could walk, ride your horse or smash a big sword against a steel door and catapult yourself to the other side of the map.

With Tears of the Kingdom they've added even more gameplay options and made things that people tried to do in BOTW (such as creating makeshift vehicles and weapons) an actual part of the gameplay.

I think it all hinges on the world, story and challenges. Is the world interesting enough to explore again, is the story good enough to keep you interested and do the challenges match all these new abilities.
This game, like Breath of the Wild is just a difficult game to demonstrate because you can play it in so many different ways.

Only children and "games journalists" (distinguished mentally-challenged fellows) complain about weapons breaking in BOTW.  Everyone else quickly cottoned on to how the combat works and soon found the world to be overly abundant in powerful weapons.  It's a skill issue, not a game issue.
