There's a difference between some inarticulate rando getting peppersprayed for wearing a MAGA hat and clocking genocide-espousing shitheel who's leading the charge of the resurging neonazi movement. Taking pleasure in the latter isn't condoning anarchy and antifacism, it's literally just cheering on violence against nazis, which is has been a cornerstone of American pop culture for seven decades now. But that feigned indignation is hilarious and I can't wait to see how thin the straws you end up grasping for get over the next four years

I like thing A

I don't like thing B

that's literally all this is. There's no moral dilemma.
Yup, wasn't following this back and forth but not sure how the nazi thing even got included.

The story is whiners were violently protesting at Berkeley and should be ashamed for infringing on the same free speech they so gleefully employed. Unfortunate and infuriating, but at least this time the university president made a coherent statement on the matter.

Confuse fiction with no real world consequence with real world actions you claim won't ever escalate and it's all just a silly slippery slope argument

and then watch the escalation happen on video a week later

Good thing the other side of this equation is handling things so respectfully!

...But by your logic, the lack of enthusiasm for this should lead to a reduction in violence by this shadowy group no? Or is logic going to get twisted in some new way to blame national liberals for the long-time crazy Berkley wing and the normal bullshit that happens at protests?

I don't make the claim that Spencer fans are respectful.

I made the claim, which should be fucking apparent by now, that saying REAL WORLD violence is okay if you just call the target a nazi is a problem and that the people who do this (ANTIFA) are not good people. I made the claim that it's bound to worsen. And it did a week later.

This isn't normal for protests. Protest normal is it being a million causes at once. Randomly hitting people and lighting shit on fire because a gay jew wants to talk about Halloween costumes is not normal.

This honestly feels like arguing with me just to be seen as arguing against me even when you have no argument.

People were applauding and approving thing A. Thing A represents violence. Applauding it represents okaying violence. Thing A was done by group X. Group X is all about violence to silence people. You applauding their actions. Now you are looking at the eventual outcomes.

You can't spin this. Just take the L.
So you're saying it would be bad to suggest people go around looking for nazis to punch but it's totally cool to enjoy the nazi getting punched (twice), right?

That's great, wrapitup.

This honestly feels like arguing with me just to be seen as arguing against me even when you have no argument.

Probably stemming from the projection on your part.

But honestly, your argument basically rests on an assumption your own logic pushes back against.

This violent group, prone to violence, embracing violence historically, acted violent once, then acted violent again..

Your argument basically contends that the latter violence was driven primarily by the meming of this one incident that falls in line with a larger cultural aversion to Nazi's. With no evidence to support that causation. Just that it should be obvious. And then getting all hot and bothered and posting other incidents of violence to try and shoehorn that assertion into being a default fact.

This isn't an attempt to defend this recent violence, just a push back against shit logic built on presumption. Which I should mention again, the reduction in positive reaction to this violence, by your logic, should correlate to a reduction in violence going forward. So I hope any posting of further violence in the future is accompanied by you admitting that your assumption was false.

Quote
The environmental movement is “the greatest threat to freedom and prosperity in the modern world”, according to an adviser to the US president Donald Trump’s administration.

Myron Ebell, who has denied the dangers of climate change for many years and led Trump’s transition team for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) until the president’s recent inauguration, also said he fully expected Trump to keep his promise to withdraw the US from the global agreement to fight global warming.

Ebell said US voters had rejected what he dubbed the “expertariat” and said there was no doubt that Trump thinks that climate change is not a crisis and does not require urgent action.

It really depends on how much it's actually rejected. The rejection in this thread is tame. Other places, it's being argued as necessary violence.

Oh, also this happened:

President Donald Trump personally approved a US commando raid in Yemen that left one elite serviceman dead and may have killed an eight-year-old American girl, the US military has told the Guardian.

At least 14 people died in Sunday’s raid by the elite Joint Special Operations Command, which was the subject of a preliminary inquiry to determine if allegations of civilian deaths were sufficiently credible to merit a full investigation.

On Wednesday night, US central command said in a statement that the team conducting the inquiry had already confirmed that civilians were “likely killed” in the raid and that “casualties may include children”. It is continuing to look into whether there “were any still-undetected civilian casualties”.

Obama had previously vetoed the raid.

Well, Trump did say he had no qualms with targeting families of suspected terrorists...

Trump's tweet about UCB is terrible*. The president should denounce what went on and that's that. Threatening funds is juvenile and undeserving of the largest job. Admonish the behavior and the lack of police protection. Threats from power just make you another idiot, but an idiot with high power.

*There's an argument to be made that this violates title IX in regards to how the Milo speech went down. A republican student could claim to not feel safe and thus the university be at fault. Hint: Title IX is a hell hole.

First they came for the Socialists, and I protested but was told to get a job and shut up because I lost

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I protested but was told that disrupting traffic hurts my cause and turns people against me

Then they came for the Jews, and I protested but was told that violence is not the answer and my federal funding was being cut

Then they came for me—and 47% of the country cheered because theyre fucking idiots who couldn't pass a 7th grade math test

Donald Trump’s wall the 'most idiotic thing I have ever seen', says developer asked to build it

Miami real estate tycoon Jorge Perez said he declined an invitation by President Donald Trump to help build a wall along the US border with Mexico, describing the plan as “idiotic.”

Perez, a billionaire who has built Trump-branded towers in South Florida, said the president e-mailed him after the inauguration with plans for the wall and asked if he’d be interested in working on it. In an interview at the offices of his company, Related Group, the Argentine-born developer said he politely declined and joked about which side of the barrier he would end up on.

.....“The wall is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen or heard in my life,” said Perez, who was raised in Colombia by Cuban parents. “A wall for what? You think a wall is going to stop people that are hungry? Good employment in Mexico, economic growth in Mexico, equality is going to stop people from coming over the border.”

http://blog.dilbert.com/post/156672488391/the-odds-of-being-killed-by-an-immigrant
Quote
I keep seeing tweets and articles saying the odds of an immigrant killing a citizen of the United States are approximately zero. Obviously those calculations assume that our past experiences do a good job of predicting what happens next. And this is good news. Really, really, good news.

It’s good news because I used to be afraid of lots of stuff that never happened in the past. For example, I have never died from a nuclear attack, but now I understand that risk to be zero. We can dismantle our nuclear deterrents and relax. If a nuclear bomb hasn’t killed me in the past, I can safely conclude that it will never kill me in the future. I feel sorry for all of you science-deniers who think otherwise.

I built a complicated prediction model to prove my point. The model only has one variable – the number of times I have died in nuclear blasts in the past. That number equals the number of times I will die in nuclear blasts in the future. Skeptics might doubt the credibility of my prediction model, but I would argue that it fits the past quite well. And that means it predicts the future too, unless you are ignorant of science and whatnot.
