Why would Disney fire him ? Would they even care he has the ear of politicians ? Marvel is doing fine under him.

Shadow running the VA is pretty bizarre still. Maybe they somehow squeeze money from it down the line.

I think it’s wholly inappropriate activity and certainly grounds for dismissal.

He’s basically subverting proper government function.

It would be a major scandal if Trump didn’t already have 10 other worse scandals.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/08/08/devin-nunes-audio-protecting-trump-rosenstein-impeachment-timing/943636002/

This Nunes audio "leak" story is fucking stupid. The crux of it seems to be him explaining why they aren't pushing harder for a Rosenstein impeachment and that they need to hold onto their seats. Here's the quotes from the article:
Quote
"So if we actually vote to impeach, OK, what that does is that triggers the Senate then has to take it up," he said, explaining that it could take away from other priorities of Congress.

He said everything would have to be dropped if impeachment was up for a vote. "So it's not a matter that any of us like Rosenstein. It's a matter of, it's a matter of timing."

"Do you want them to drop everything and not confirm the Supreme Court justice, the new Supreme Court justice?" he added.

Quote
"If Sessions won't un-recuse and Mueller won't clear the president, we're the only ones, which is really the danger," he says on the recording. "That's why I keep, and thank you for saying it by the way, I mean we have to keep all these seats."

It’s only stupid because he’s just confirming what we already know.

The scandal is that he doesn’t see his position as one where he exercises proper oversight over the intelligence community, rather he sees it as one where he runs interference for the President.

Oh I thought you meant in the recent past. If proved demonstrably, yes of course it's a big deal that should be grounds for dismissal.

They had Captain America ring the bell for the VA on Wall Street. Disney is ok with this.

The other CEO's that 'broke' with Trump over Charlotsville back in the day. Well they didn't really break with Trump. They're having dinners together at the Mar-a-lago.
Trump said he would bring in smart business people, "Killers" he called them, to make good deals for Americans. Trump and his buddies are running the US.
The business community could've stonewalled Trump easily by not drinking the MAGA koolaid and not hiring workers or handing out bonuses. But they didn't.

A Russian bear?

Anyway, the Republicans will absolutely lose 10+ seats in the house and gain no more than 2 in the Senate (and that’s really because the map this year is just really bad for Democrats).

This is what they're going to create:

Space Force
The United States Space Command
Space Operations Force
Space Development Agency
The United States Department of Space Force

Obviously, they will deregulate and not be bureaucratic and allow for experimentation and all.

This part reveals that he is playing D for Trump. As the head of the House Intelligence Committee which was also investigating the Russian interference, he is supposed to be a neutral actor and make sure all the facts come to light. Instead he has tried to interfere not only with his own investigation, but he tries to obstruct the special council every step of the way. The part that I bolded proves that beyond shadow of the doubt. Not sure why you don't think that's major.

Exactly. He's making them feel he's bringing back the jobs, cars and houses they had before the banks and politicians 'took' everything.
And with economic growth more people get jobs, it's easier to get loans, the tax cut nets them some extra pocket money etc. .

So even if Trump is not a big factor in their lives improving, it seems that way. It looks and feels like he's doing a lot of things for them.
In exchange they cheer him on at the rallies, allow him to play golf on their tab and vote for the people he says they should vote for.

I don't know anyone who this "booming economy" has helped and I live in Trump country. There are more homeless people on the streets begging for food/money than I've ever seen in my life, everyone is still struggling to make ends meet, houses are still going into foreclosure all around, local businesses are dying off completely, drug crisis still completely out of control.

It's really weird. Especially because the 'numbers' say otherwise. Maybe the effects are only seen in some areas of the economy that they prioritize right now, such as the energy sector.

In any case, Vox did an interesting piece this one time on where the money for Ocasio's ideas would come from and they basically concluded it isn't feasible.
https://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2018/8/7/17658574/democratic-socialism-cost-medicare-college-sanders-deficits-taxes

It seems that she still needs to learn some lessons from the European countries with similar systems.

The effect is seen in the reporting his boosters consume, which is what actually counts. If there's no tangible progress, it's because the deep state is still holding things back.

The unwritten contract in Russia is "#rememberwhen shock therapy killed a bunch of people unnecessarily because freedom? That's not going to happen again under us even if the claim itself was specious." The unwritten contract in China is developmental economics horse trading and (increasingly less so) ideological tactical retreats. Neither of these has anything in common with placating the base of white minority rule in a colonial state.

Since this isn't about immigration I guess nuance isn't important.

I feel like you’re just looking at top line numbers and assuming that it’s trickling down when that’s not really accurate. Less than 1% of American workers received a “tax cut” bonus, and of those that did, the terms were very aggressive in terms of like “must have worked at Walmart for 20+ years to get the full $1000”, so most of those people only got like $100.

The average working American makes less in real terms today than they did one year ago, but mortgage rates are skyrocketing and housing costs are also skyrocketing.

If you talk to Trump country folks (I’m deep in trump country too) they say shit like “well, once trump wins the trade wars, things are going to be great” and “once trump brings all the good jobs back” or “sometimes you gotta take your medicine for the good of the country”

Sooner or later, even the rubes will realize that the jobs aren’t coming back and the end of the trade war is not right around the corner. Basically, it’s just cognitive dissonance and not wanting to look dumb for voting for an idiot.

So Louis Gohmert is for Space Force because as a kid he saw Alien and that was cool and they can't not afford to do it.

Basically the Republican platform is: "Space Force is pretty cool huh!"

Re: "how will you pay for it!?" and the reactions to AOC.

The belief that tax cuts increase the government's revenue is basically dogma for the ruling party at this point (try finding a Republican in Congress who will refute this on the record) and has been the justification for several tax bills that have been signed into law.

It’s a really dumb question and the media does themselves no credit by asking it.
