Rivals warn Sanders campaign plans to game Iowa results

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Rival campaigns are sounding the alarm that Bernie Sanders could be planning to claim victory on Monday night — before the caucuses are concluded.

It’s a move, they say, that could have a significant effect on the outcome.

Sanders and his team have made clear their intention to tout the results of the first round of caucus voting Monday, even though the Iowa Democratic Party stresses that the only number that matters is the final delegate count.

Aides with two top-tier campaigns told POLITICO they worry the Sanders campaign or other pro-Sanders forces — which will be receiving unofficial precinct results from allies in real time — will disseminate that information through social media or publicly claim victory after the first vote, an act that could distort the eventual results in a variety of ways.

A claim of victory after the first vote could encourage supporters of weaker candidates to leave the caucuses early without realigning with another candidate. Or it could create an artificial bandwagon effect by encouraging some caucus-goers to jump to Sanders’ side under the belief that he will be the victor.

Either scenario stands to hurt the campaigns that are more reliant than Sanders on the realignment round that happens after the first preference vote is cast. During realignment, supporters of candidates who failed to hit a 15 percent threshold in the first vote are freed up to switch to another candidate.

It works because everyone will look at Bloomberg's debates thinking: "Gee this guy is rather short" or "Is he really standing on a box?"
In a sort of "Once you see you can't unsee" way. The same way Trump destroyed Jeb! with the low energy jab.

Also Trump's attack has double the effect. Because he didn't just attack Bloomberg's height, but also the thing he could do (and the likes of Hillary did) to look 'taller'.
Mike can't bring out the box now so he has no way to look taller.

Wait, it's good because Bernie's policies are actually popular. The most superficial things that you could make fun of Sanders (hair, waving arms) are more like a trademark so he sort of has Trump like armor there. He's perceived as authentic and honest so that closes other lines of attack. Calling him a socialist is a bit of a so what.

I think the selling point for people with insurance from their employer is that you could change jobs or not lose insurance if you are fired. It would do a lot to change the power dynamics in the work place.

I actually have fairly good insurance while having an otherwise shitty job thanks to working at a unionized grocery store. It seems like during every contract negotiation the fear of changing the insurance policy contributes a lot to everyone being too fearful to actually bargain for something good. It also contributes to a division between people are concerned about their insurance and new hires who might just want a living wage. It's not the only thing weakening the union (tiered contracts based on seniority and the oldest, most reliable voters only being concerned about maintaining what they already have is the biggest issue) but it's part of it.

Edit: my biggest concern about actually implementing m4a (because I'm a crazy person) is what it will do to all of the poor middlemen. Honestly, wouldn't it really suck to work for Allstate the day that we manage to pass m4a? There's a lot of losers anytime you change a major policy like that. But the same could be said for people who work in the justice department and legalizing things like marijuana, but it's a poor reason to keep something unjust because it gives somebody job security.
