It's moments like this that I wish we didn't censor the word "distinguished mentally-challenged fellowed".

I hope someday humanity finds a cure for rėtardation so we can use that word.

Like how it's okay to call someone a Neanderthal now that there's no more Neanderthals. If there were still Neanderthals around it'd be super offensive.

If this is a bit, you can add, "Same thing with the word 'gay'" for that little twist.  The audience will never see it coming.

Conservatives/Republicans are literally the Sith cultists on Exogol

You should just be ashamed you can make a reference to that movie.

You should just be ashamed you think it's okay to sacrifice people for the economy

I recently replayed MGS 4, I know everything about the war economy. Pretty much the same concept :expert

It's always the same people too.

And you know what, he actually reads the comments as he occasionally retweets or likes a comment that praises him so they keep commenting.
Sometimes I wonder if he still has his notifications on.

It's quite stunning that people tune into these pressers for information about the pandemic and all Trump does is troll the media, troll the doctors or promote his brainfart of the day.  :lol

How does this Gu guy have the time to tweet at people, especially now that he's probably on the frontlines helping people, or is he one of those specialists that doesn't see actual patients?

Edit:

Attention: Coronavirus Screening, Evaluation, and Testing Through Telemedicine
To address the coronavirus pandemic and the emergency declarations in nearly all states, we are now offering free coronavirus (COVID-19) screening, evaluation, and testing for all Medicare patients in California, Texas, and Florida. We are working on providing home testing kits to our patients who need it, but in the meantime we will evaluate you for your symptoms, write any medically necessary prescriptions, and arrange for you to be tested at an authorized facility closest to you. Due to the high volume of requests during this state of emergency, we anticipate having to triage the patients with the worst symptoms and apologize in advance for any delays in getting back to you. In some cases, it may take longer than a day to process your application for our free telemedicine evaluations. Please note that this is for California, Texas, and Florida patients only. If you wish to be evaluated, please click on the Coronavirus Telemedicine Evaluation button below.

Coronavirus Telemedicine Evaluation

Our Continuing Mission to Fight Tobacco Addiction:
In addition to coronavirus screening, evaluation, and testing, Cool Quit is committed to helping patients stop smoking cigarettes. Fighting tobacco addiction is our founding mission, and one that we will continue to address. If you are a smoker, please understand that this makes you far more vulnerable to the coronavirus. Smoking also causes many of the same medical problems like heart disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and respiratory issues that increase your chances of severe complications and even death when it comes to the coronavirus.

But we're not here to scare you. We're here to help you quit.

And if you are a smoker, the rest of this site is dedicated to you.

"It's okay" (or should be okay) for people to go about their business as they see fit per their own informed decision-making.
what if their business involves indirectly causing other people to die? presumably other people who dont deserve to die

Ancitipated argument: Nobody can endanger anyone with COVID19 infection without the other person implicitly consenting to take on that risk. That is, if I'm gallivanting about town making myself a potential vector, the only people I might spread it to are also people choosing not to socially isolate.

Counterpoint: If we assume a miniarchist libertopia with a night watchman state (ie one that enforces contracts and protects private property rights but has no redistributive/social welfare functions), people will be implicitly forced into exposing themselves to infection by state violence.

If a business decides to stay open (in the absence of a bailout or broadly enforced debt forbearance, most of them would rather than go bankrupt), an employee has the choice between going to work and maybe getting the virus or being fired. Among other things, for a lot of people losing their income would mean being evicted, something that happens because the state is backing the landlord's right to their property. You can say that the worker has a choice, but it is between risking serious illness or death vs. agents of the state forcibly kicking you out of your home.

I think the post-2008 arguments about deficit spending, monetary policy, inflation etc. were pretty formative for a lot of politics nerds of a certain age.

Probably same way the late 70's were for older generations.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said Thursday that he opposed the bill, approved unanimously by the Senate on Wednesday, as it would add to the national debt. The libertarian lawmaker also is concerned that voting without a quorum present — the majority of the House chamber — would violate the

...an employee has the choice between going to work and maybe getting the virus or being fired.
the two things that pop out to me are 1) the need for an, if not perfect, than at least significantly frictionless epistemic environment which obviously doesnt currently obtain and it isnt super clear why it would in the minarchist libertopia when the private sector -which has already been established as solely self-interested- would seem to have no incentive to convey information honestly or efficiently; and 2) “coercion” is doing all the work here and is both too liberally (:teehee) defined and too selectively applied.

i dont wanna rag on jaydub, because im nothing if not sympathetic to states=bad takes and because i think theres something to be said for his straw position, even if its just used as a foil. “certain goods cant be compromised regardless of the consequences” is plausible in the sense that its minimally coherent. getting sanctimonious about how other people dont find it obvious when those consequences are ‘hundreds of thousands of people dead’ is maybe not the best way to evangelize though

If it can't, hopefully you own your home and / or have sufficient savings; if not, you have more choices to make.  But all of that is entirely your business, none of mine and not the government's.

Why do libertarians think they need to explain their logic on any given topic for the 10,000th time?

Just say “libertarian reasons” and everyone will instantly get it JayDubya.  It’s not some mystery.
Because nobody listened to them for the 9,999 other times, so they might as well keep on trying!

I’m sick of seeing this “the recession will kill more than the virus”. It’s such a bs talking point.

During a recession the mortality rate historically actually goes down. The Great Recession actually prolonged people’s lives.

The research on that, by the way, is actually government research.

Same for violent crime, IIRC. I think the most popular hypothesis is that people can't afford as much booze in a recession.

Looks like Trump has found his fall guy(s) when people start dying in hospital hallways because they couldn't get a bed.

Hopefully people aren't as stupid as he is about how the process of manufacturing parts actually works.

Not to worry. 8 minutes after those GM tweets everything is wonderful and, some say, tremendous -- people have told me, it's really tremendous, it's unbelievable how tremendous, in fact.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1243561301768581120

It all feels like everything is teetering capriciously on the edge, here.

What is the rationale for an 'announcement' of names, here?   Just tweet the details for god's sake.

I'm not sure this is legally binding, but you know he could have told them to do this weeks ago. But just last night he said he didn't think the amount being asked for was real or necessary to begin with. This guy is the worst leader I've seen in my life time and I came to age during the Bush era and had Mike Pence as my governor.

Also this Kentucky dude making everyone fly in for the vote on the Coronabucks package what a dick head. Surely he's Rand Paul's friend.

Massie is a millionaire in a largely low-affected state (for now), reciting pages of the Constitution on twitter over $1200 measley dollars while New York is burning.  What is happening.

Ventilators are good (but won't appear instantly, still need to be made and shipped) but I think the issue beyond material means (beds, rooms and all) is that there's only so much medical personnel available, and a not inconsequential number of them will contract the disease and not be in roster for at least 2 weeks.
