That's the weird thing about the Trump administration.

With any other administration these things would've probably not happened.
Mr. Pillow guy would not be making masks, the ship would've probably been docked for as long as they planned maintenance and experimental drugs and tests wouldn't have been immediately approved and fast tracked into mass production.
Cuomo might also not have ordered the NYPD to look into medical equipment theft. Not to mention travel from China and Europe would've been allowed far longer with no early travel bans.

For some reason this whole thing might've actually turned out worse under a 'normal' President doing everything by the books.

A hardline conservative power broker and three area pastors filed a petition with the Texas Supreme Court Monday arguing that Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s stay-at-home order violates the Constitution by ordering the closure of churches and failing to define gun shops as “essential” businesses.

The emergency petition for a writ of mandamus, filed by anti-LGBTQ Republican activist Steven Hotze and pastors Juan Bustamante, George Garcia and David Valdez, contends Hidalgo’s order undercuts the First Amendment by limiting religious and worship services to video or teleconference calls. Pastors also may minister to congregants individually.

Hotze and the pastors argue the order also “severely infringes” on Second Amendment rights by closing gun stores.

Throughout the petition, Hotze and the pastors argue that “the circumstances presented by coronavirus do not excuse unlawful government infringements” and “the free exercise of religion...should not be sacrificed at the altar of political expediency.” They also contend that Hidalgo’s order “picks winners and losers.”

“People of faith are prohibited from worshipping in person, most private businesses are prevented from operating, gun shops are ordered closed, and people are not allowed to associate together in groups — these are some of the individual freedoms Judge Hidalgo has chosen to sacrifice,” the petition reads.

It goes on to list several exempted businesses, including liquor stores, yard maintenance crews, furniture suppliers and bicycle repair shops.

“Because her hand-picked losers have been shuttered, her self-identified winners are allowed to thrive while other private businesses are closed indefinitely,” the petition continues.

The court has given the county until Tuesday to respond to the emergency petition, according to Jared Woodfill, the attorney representing Hotze and the pastors.

Cuomo is also insistent that the home front help in this war. In the covid-19 era, that means staying at home and practicing social distancing. Cuomo does not give a phony end date,only to disappoint the public when that proves infeasible. He prepares them for the long haul. In wartime, Franklin D. Roosevelt did not pick an end date and tell Americans that rationing would be over then. His job was to engage the public for as long as necessary. This concept seems utterly foreign to Trump.

Finally, Cuomo said, in an emergency, one must “plan forward.” He has learned that “it’s too late to prepare when the storm hits.” Refusing to do so, he says, “defies the basic concept of planning.” It is a “fundamental blunder to plan only for today,” he observed.

Fortunately, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower was in charge of D-Day. He had planned out all the troops, the equipment, the contingencies and much more weeks, months and even years in advance. He did not just wake up on June 5, 1944, to announce tomorrow would be the greatest land invasion in human history. Trump nevertheless cannot seem to understand why we must stockpile protective equipment for physicians.

I think the "war" thing is overblown and perhaps cynical but it's not all pointless in regards to the extraordinary freedom restrictions, trying to adapt the economy and literally retool part of the production, convey the seriousness of the situation, etc... I'm sure it's used even in non-imperialistic countries.

Silver lining is that no one is bombing human beings in that war.

I presume you know that Nero opened his palaces to provide shelter for the homeless after the great fire of Rome (and contrary to popular belief, he was 50km away from Rome during the fire, so he could neither have set it nor witnessed it directly).
Trump would never open a single of his properties to provide shelter.
And while having a deeply flawed character, there are no accounts of Nero being feeble-minded, and he wasn't uneducated, either.
Trump on the other hand is without doubt the most stupid, uneducated and corrupt person in the history of mankind to be put in charge of a great and powerful nation.

Imagine the potential psychological and human toll if this shutdown continues indefinitely, unemployment reaches 20% or higher, as some now predict, and we sink into a deep recession or depression.

The U.S. Senate just passed a $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill in a less-than-perfect attempt to mitigate some of the economic fallout.

In addition to the current human toll, future generations will be required to pick up that tab.

Every premature death is a tragedy, but death is an unavoidable part of life. More than 2.8 million die each year — nearly 7,700 a day. The 2017-18 flu season was exceptionally bad, with 61,000 deaths attributed to it. Can you imagine the panic if those mortality statistics were attributed to a new virus and reported nonstop?

Social distancing polices make sense because no one wants to overwhelm our health care system to the point of failure. Social distancing should continue until this outbreak is under control.

Nonetheless, much of our economy must stay open to provide life’s basic necessities. Rather than announcing general shutdowns and drawing up lists of “essential” business that can remain open, let’s draw up lists of “nonessential” businesses that pose a risk for coronavirus spread.

'As Joe announced on our podcast we pulled all our resources together and will deploy a tent in the garden that can hold up to 3 people. I think people are happy and surprised how quickly our campaign has matured and how fast we've moved to deliver real solutions for the American people'. The Biden campaign added the tent would be set-up by the end of next week and would not rule out deploying more tents. Meanwhile President Trump is expected to launch the USS Ivanka tomorrow. The Cruiser-class space battleship developed by SpaceX is expected to pulverize the alien fleets before they reach orbit. Congress tried to block the deployment of the ship. Nancy Pelosi called it an 'abomination' as hundreds of left leaning independents and Democrats protested about the insane carbon emissions of the craft as first revealed by our reporting. A lone libertarian senator voted against the deployment in protest so that it could not be used to colonize and tax the moon but was quickly rebuked when a bipartisan agreement was reached between Democrats and the Trump administration. The agreement secures funding for the Kennedy Center for another decade and pushed the bill with deployment orders and a $10 trillion bailout of space technology companies to the President's desk.
