Personally I have Kamala as a hedge against election fuckery. The KHive will definitely run a credible partisan campaign if they snatch another election, and you do not want to run up into that buzzsaw after COVID-19 and a recession.

lmao imagine looking at the state of the country and being excited about these two fucking jerkoffs

sometimes i think i'm too cynical but really i think everyone just believes in this stupid system way way way too much
I'm excited because Kamala is gonna fire up the base and make the ticket seem a little less senile and we'll finally get this motherfucker out of the white house. Outside of that I have no faith in the federal system, I just want the abject chaos to end :stahp

see this might have made me a little less cynical except the right has been working overtime for damn near 20 years now to dismantle democracy and the Dems response is crickets. like it fully feels like they figure that if they can pull in enough numbers to occasionally win and keep the money coming in then that's all that matters. there is absolutely no way these wildly unpopular conservative positions should be fully embraced by both parties, even as they cause the fucking collapse of the country. there is no reason the right should have as much power as it does. it is mind-boggling that the country is in the state that it is in now, and that everyone who brought us to this point is still in power. i hate it!

I hate that slogan so much. Could have said the same thing with "Take back the nation"

It totally sounds like the name of a Motoi Sakuraba track for a Tales game.

Despite the campaign’s use of “Phony Kamala” on Tuesday, President Trump is still workshopping “effective nicknames” for Biden’s now-announced running mate, a source with direct knowledge said.

Glad that Biden picked a running mate from the Sanders/Markey wing of the party. Some would say it's risky but I think it's important he offers a high profile olive branch to the left.

Governor can call a special election.

idk why X seems like the only California politician anyone knows, but his career is pretty journeyman and he has years left as attorney general.

Hm, when I looked it up it said governor appointment until next statewide election (which would be 2022, when Harris' term would end anyways).

Becerra was number 4 or 5 in the Dem leadership when he was in the House so I figure he's got friends.

her voting record is fine, she's an ambitious politician who's responsive to her constituency (which for dems has moved left), and none of it matters because the senate is what's going to fuck everything up anyways

cf. the last line of Elections Code Section 10720.

There's a law in the state legislature right now that would repeal that part of the Code and make the law for U.S. Senate conform to the law for other state offices (that the special election is mandatory and must be held within a specific period of time). I don't care about the civics geek stuff so I can't tell you if it's likely to get sped through before November now.

I don't know, you might have Gavin Newsom appoint somebody mildly more progressive than Harris is, and in a special election, it'll be a bit of a free for all.

That's why Newsom could just appoint Tom Steyer to the senate in 2021.  :jawalrus

I think she's an ambitious mainstream Democrat who sees things through a pretty standard center-left frame, and as certain ideas and policies become more popular within the party they will hold more sway with her. I think this explains both those parts of her career.

For a long time, almost every black politician that won an election outside a majority-black district had a background as a prosecutor or AG. Douglas Wilder was maybe the only exception until Obama.
