Oh, GAF is now slowly turning on Rose McGowan for not having the appropriate statements in regards to intersectional feminism.

They've also turned the thread about her outting Harvey Weinstein and people who knew about him into shitting on women who worked with Roman Polanski (including ones that were involved with HW stuff) and how Rose isn't expressing her anger properly.

 :goty2

she's got a pretty long history of saying some real questionable stuff, including about transgender people, so I was wondering how long it would take them to do a 180 on her

"The Rise of Toxic Fandom"

This thread is amazing. Absolutely tone deaf. Bitching about nerdy fans who take shit too far on NEOGAF. What perch can these people possibly climb on to talk about toxic fandom?

"don't underestimate the destructive power of bored white 30-somethings with an internet connection"

Of course. White gen-xers.

This is on Neogaf, where there are pages upon pages of advertising for Assasins Creed 8.

"Shame and disavow toxic people even if they're your friends"

"Base your identity around consumption of media packaged by corporate overlords and this is what you get"

Then how do you post there?

The rise in popularity of unmoderated internet communities, fuelled by Silicon Valley's obsession with absolute free speech. GAF remains one of the last bastions of an older internet era where communities were strictly moderated to ensure a quality of discussion"

Oh, the moderation!

Your #2 point is really interesting and something I don't think I consciously thought about before posting this, but has made me realize something. I didn't go to Facebook / twitter with this. I came to NeoGAF. Why? Because deep down, I wanted an intelligent conversation. I think the moderation in effect here is hugely important and creates for a place with intelligent and meaningful discussion.

Nothing has changed regarding toxicity levels, just that before the internet if you were an arsehole then you had no group to voice your interest with because they wouldn't group with you. Was easy to gatekeep that shit.

Now everyone no matter how vile has a voice with no good way to keep it out.

Fandoms have always had problems because people make problems. Still, in 1990 one didn't have to worry about hateful misanthropes using the internet and social media to start brigades that result in 5 years of harassment and death threats by thousands of terrible people.

In an earlier era, it was somewhat more feasible to create lunatic-free zones by physically ostracizing the occasional troublemaker. Today there can be more anxiety associated with trying to be an ordinary enthusiast of something.

It is estimated that at least 250,000 people in the US identify as “furries.”

Quote
In early September, the furry movement made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Scott Chamberlain, a councilman from New Milford, Conn., was forced to resign when it came to light that he was a furry. His animal of choice: a fox called Gray Muzzle. This revelation was confirmed via Chamberlain’s profile on a website called sofurry.com.

The profile showed a photo of him posing alongside someone in furry garb. That he checked a box, on his sofurry.com profile, stating that he “tolerates rape,” did not help his situation.

AH HA!

Strike estimates that two-thirds of furries are men and that a large number of them come from the IT and technology professions.

There's no lies detected, in my experience. Also a lot of furries are apparently gay. I've had to turn down quite a few of them because that's not my fetish, baby.

I believe that a person wouldn't make a bold claim to just lie and deceive. I believe something happened and I believe someone did it. I don't know WHO this person is, this specific lead that was mentioned, but I would like to know. I'm in the camp that is supporting the accusers accusation but also am not directly blaming Sony or ND for their response if they truly have no evidence on paper of this incident. And that's how these cases always end up, with their being no paper trail. If someone else was brave enough to speak up to back his story , we would be at least getting somewhere and I hope his bravery allows others who were either wronged by the same HR department or who were also assaulted by this same lead, comes forward.

Oh you sweet summer child.

My aunt was in the fires.  She and her partner were in town for a wedding.  They wanted a vacation after having gone through evacuating from hurricane Irma.  Of course the GAF toads would shoot their mouths off.

Quote
We had no warning.  Thank goodness someone woke up at 2 am to smell the smoke and see the flames headed towards us from the upstairs windows.  He raised the alarm for everyone to quickly pack up and evacuate.  Luckily [Partner] and I had already packed for our departure Monday morning at the Sacremento Airport.  We tossed our stuff in our car by flash lights, electricity was off.  Everyone else quickly threw their stuff together and into their cars.  The dog had bolted to the back yard.  I was able to grab her and get her back into the car.  Visions of having to leave her or for me to face more danger ran through my mind.

We began our caravan of 4 cars down the narrow twisty road to the bottom of the hills.  Actually experiencing driving through the flames  on both sides of us while the car was getting hotter was also frightening.  We stopped briefly at one house down the road.  They had called 911 and were told to stay in their pool as they had already tried to get out and our road was blocked.  Our lead car decided to continue forward fighting through the flames.   At times we could not see the road due to the smoke.  The neighbors did join our caravan and we all made it down to the major road and were directed to head towards Santa Rosa which was burning even worse.  Fortunately [Friend] was familiar with the area and took us on various highways until reaching a safe route  towards Sacremento.  We had already stopped to gas up and transfer the dog to the couple living in Santa Monica close to the bride and groom's home, owner of the dog.

The last vision I saw traveling out of Santa Rosa was firetrucks on the side of the road preventing the raging hill fire in that area from jumping the road.  The top of the hill had a raging fire shooting flames high into the night's sky with many strems of grass fires flowing down to the road like lava from a volcano.

It's the Crime & Punishment of our age, truly.

Apparently it's super popular in the US now ? Not that small fandoms are any less insufferable but you can escape them mostly. Fun show tho.

This year we started to get closer to couple who we've been friends for a long time. A few dinners, some flirting, drinking, and suddenly somebody suggested that we should do something more sexual.
Ok, everybody agreed, and we traded partners. The first time this happened we only went as far as a blowjob.
Skipping ahead a few weeks, last night we decided to get together again to drink and have some fun. We really didn't plan anything.

We bought a bottle of tequila, a few beers and snacks and started our night. The night went on and things started to get heated so we decided to go to bed.
That's when shit started to go wrong for me. I was hard before the act itself, and technically I got it up and even penetrated (for a short time), but it started to go limp. I just couldn't maintain an erection. Sometimes, I could get it semi-hard, but not enough for penetration, and even wasted 3 condoms trying.
I felt bad for the girl I was with, because I find her really attractive and she tought I didn't like her and that it was her fault that I could not get hard. I felt bad for my girlfriend who was having fun with the other guy, and I felt bad for him too, because I decided that we all should stop since I was not having fun and I didn't think it was fair.

dont worry im sure he will take care of your girl when you're not there :neogaf

That #metoo thing is so strange. On one hand, not going to lie, I think every single girl I know has been sexually harassed at some point. Then again, I'm a straight male, and I was "sexually harassed" several times as well, especially a couple years ago when I worked as a barkeeper. But to me, getting my butt grabbed by some gay dude or having some random girl massaging my balls under the table with her feet simply wasn't a big deal. But it apparently should be? I just considered it "flirting gone wrong", and often times flattering, actually. Then again, I never felt threatened by any of those advances. I'm super confused.

Then again, possibly the most strange thing about the #metoo thing is that it happened right after #womenboycotttwitter or whatever...

Most of the women I know who are doing the #metoo thing have been sexually assaulted, not just harassed, and the ones who have been just harassed have not had a simple flirting gone wrong scenario.
