I mean, seling a 80+ euro cartboard collection with minigames for a 300+ euro system is a bold move even for Nintendo.
It probably already shattered expectations given most of it is based on a Wii U tech demo and a skeleton crew of engineers working with cart board.

My take on this, they wanted Yoshi or Smash Bros. out around this time. Both didn't make it so they decided to do cartboard boogaloo and ports of DK and HW instead.
None will set the world on fire but combined they will keep the Switch afloat and it's audience engaged until new heavy hitters and the E3 reveals arrive.
