I dunno, if someone were to mistake me for a woman everywhere I went, I'd be keen on a title system that would prevent that from happening on paper.  It's just an extension of polite society.  I've seen Andy Milonakis stream on Twitch, and he very often gets mistaken for a woman.  I have to imagine that's rough on the psyche.

If gender is a role someone voluntarily plays in society then addressing someone by that role's pronoun respects and acknowledges them, much in the same way we use Mr., Mrs., Dr., etc.

Isnt the point of gender being a spectrum that there is no roles? so why are we addressing people by border less, boundlessly definable traits? I'm not a social studies person as I said, but if I take a quick glance it seems to me that we use him/her to address sex and not gender. Can you think of a specific example where him or her is used to address gender and not sex?

That's a fair point.  I was just giving an example of a kind of reasoning for why a certain minority of people would opt for gender distinction over sex even if it doesn't serve a more general purpose than the latter.  Obviously, it wouldn't suit the population at large.

Gender isn't on a spectrum and there are obviously roles (that have become less rigid over time). Unless you are a doctor, you are almost never addressing someone by their sex, you are addressing them by their gender role; this should be intuitive because the only reason you are making it relevant in the address is that in some cases the role is relevant.

The trans person's wish is summarized as this: to fully and freely participate in society as that gender. To be recognized, addressed, and treated as a member of that sex. If there were no gender roles, this statement would be meaningless, and the definition of a woman would be tautological. Thus they must exist, even if the scope of the role is as small as our innate biological ability to recognize members of the other sex.

thought it was fairly evident. In gaming side discussions involving the representation of women tend to go more poorly than their OT counterparts. OT in general has more posters who are equipped to have proper discussions about this topic than gaming side, they engage more often, and the discussions themselves are more frequent and nuanced.

But this thread has gone to lengths that would, in gaming side, meant nearly instant warnings and moderation alerts. I don't know how we're still seriously considering arguments like "should we only show ugly people" and "of course they show beautiful women" and even the extensive, extensive posting of gifs that celebrate the very sexual objectification the OP is arguing against. Not to mention the complete disregard for the topic that the thread has spiraled into.
