You could say that they have a mental abnormality, that they're flawed. That's not being mean, there's clearly some mental level condition whether genetic or not which is driving them away from the natural order of reproduction and sexual attraction.

This is getting embarrassing

https://www.resetera.com/threads/pewdiepie-promotes-known-white-supremacist-again.92504/

Pewdiepie watched a compilation of tiktok videos that features an altright guy for five seconds. He doesn't promote him, he doesn't mention his name and the guy's face isn't recognizable to anyone who isn't deep into the right wing scene.

LOL, thread already closed.  And another dumb thread that has nothing to do with video games but was posted to the gaming thread at that.

If you check the Twitter post of the guy who "reported" this, it's already filled with comments calling him full of shit and really reaching on this one.   :lol

Okay, so let’s do a little exercise. If you think Baked Alaska is less popular than Stefan Molyneux, that’s fine, but how do you explain the fact that PDP also had Ben Shapiro guest star on a recent video of his?

OH NO BEN SHAPIRO?!?!?!  I had to check out the PewDiePie video for this- he has Ben Shapiro look at *Ben Shapiro* memes and react to them.  That's it- nothing political whatsoever.  What is the problem here?

I think they should take away the ability of juniors to post until they prove they aren't going to be posting in bad faith.
The Solution?

Require users to post 200 times in political threads before gaining the ability to post in political threads.

I assumed the mods were going to close it pretty quick because of the nature of the "gotcha" was so bad the frothing would look stupid. And they tried bans for a bit, but it was clearly not working as a honeypot to expose all the alt-right gators lurking simply because it was too easy to defend as a nothingburger that even Era regulars in good standing were downplaying it as silly. It was nuttier people trying to amp it up into something and calling out innocent users and trying to pick fights unsuccessfully that led them to have to close it*. Was basically a mod backfire instead of OP backfire. :rollsafe

Friends and expats,

It is difficult to create a community.

You can build a website and write a mission statement, but these things are only structural. It takes interest, passion, and participation from users to turn an inanimate website into a living thing. It will take the effort of every member here to turn our burgeoning congregation into the true community we are looking for. No moderator or administrator can be responsible for that – this is a responsibility every user shares. It is rare so many people have the opportunity to start something new together. If we are going to be successful, we must believe in what we are doing.

Many of us have come from someplace else and have nowhere else to go. We must be humble and mindful of this fact. As we adapt and recreate the homes we’ve lost, we must be conscious and leave certain things behind. We must shape them in a more perfect vision. If we aim to create someplace respectable and dignified, we must individually uphold those values. While first and foremost this is a hobby forum, it also aims to be much more than that for hundreds of its members. This is our pocket world. It’s our place to go. We are all each other’s neighbors and must treat each other as such.

There is no place else on the internet like what we are trying to build. We must take it seriously.

As you post and get acclimated with our new forum, channel your energy into reconstruction. Do not fall victim to petty arguments, do not capitalize on every opportunity to be negative, and remember that everyone here is a refugee. Seek positive conversation. Remove your ironic veil and speak honestly. Post thoughtfully and thoroughly and remember everything you contribute is a building block. Do not let our menagerie collapse under the same heavy-handed negativity that defines other forums we find distasteful.

Be inclusive in your language, beliefs, and expectations. For this forum to become a massive multinational destination, no human being can feel unwelcome in its environment. Respect their culture, respect their gender, and respect the identity of every member at all times. Nobody should ever feel defensive of their humanity. This kind of hostility cannot be tolerated here. This kind of standard is non-negotiable and should be upheld by every member.

Conversation is invigorated by dissent. It is natural to disagree with your fellow posters and it is commendable to take a stance on something you believe in. If you argue, do so in good faith. Allow members to speak their mind and answer them sincerely. Do not declare your fellow member a lost cause before the conversation has had the chance to conclude. Certain values are non-negotiable, but not every argument is untenable and we must allow one another the space to disagree.

Restrain your urge to hyperbolize. Exaggeration overstates your investment and encourages extreme responses from others who feel the need to mirror your position. Attempt to articulate why you care about things, or how things make you feel, and leave room for others to respond at different levels of intensity.

Do not forget where you came from, but focus on our future. Everyone here comes from somewhere else and we mustn’t cling to our nostalgia. This is a new era free from the burden of history. Embrace your new home, believe in its livelihood, and relish in this occasion. Do not fall victim to the false comforts of the past. Remember why we are moving forward and do so with pride.

Lastly, be accommodating to the growing pains of the website. There are bound to be technical hurdles. There are bound to be trolls who slip through the grate. There will be some quiet days as members are approved and you may feel like important faces are missing. But you must have patience and support your new board through its afterbirth.

Be confident in yourself and others. Remember what you want this forum to be and hold yourself to that ideal. Demand it of your peers by setting the example. Nobody would be here if they felt at home anywhere else. Remember, we really are the last of us.

I hate the habit of thread closing.   Drives me nuts and it's one of the reasons I at some point stopped getting into any remotely long winded arguments on GAF and never really started on ERA.

Writing those pointless mini-essays takes time, and then you literally could have the thread closed before you hit post, or right after, etc.  lol

Theres a forum on the internet that was about railroads.

Before you laugh, you nerds like anime, so fuck off.

Anyway, the moderators were idiots. Someone would post a somewhat open ended question. Someone would answer. Thread locked because the question was answered. ???

Hypotheticals were banned.

Any slightly off topic reply = thread lock.

They didnt understand that the purpose of a discussion forum was discussion. More posts = more activity = more ad revenue. But nope. Lock, lock, lock.

What used to be a very active forum now gets like 5 posts a day across 40 subforums.

One counterargument I guess is that there are so many people on upsetera who would just post in the same topic forever if they could and win every argument by attrition. See the Jordan Peterson thread which lasted for like, what, 150, 200 pages? Am I remembering that right? So in that context, yeah, you have to close threads or else they would never stop being at the top of the page and annoy everyone else.

On 4chan there used to be this concept called the polite sage... A normal sage is where you'd put "sage" in the email field which makes the thread not bump to the top, probably because you hate a thread. But a polite one is done not because you didn't like the thread and were expressing your discontent but because you were having a conversation with other people that you wanted to continue and you didn't think it warranted bumping the thread. I guess a similar concept occurs in email chains where you remove all the other people from the CC list to branch the conversation. Something like that would take a lot of pressure off the mods who are trying to balance making the forum readable and not stomping on everyone's faces all the time.

Was this forum dedicated to model railroads or actual railroads?

I've known a couple of people who were heavily into the models, and those are some....interesting people.  I almost witnessed a fistfight when there was a disagreement over the amount of bolts in a foot-long section.

Why even close any thread if the quality has "diminished"? Why not just let it slide into irrelevance if it's so lame? Wouldn't people just stop posting in it eventually when they have nothing left to say?

Are you suggesting there’s obsessive behavior in the model railroad community?

No one even seems to have a consensus on how much of that character is real. People have said that he's actually really outgoing and some people say that no, that's just a slightly played up version of his every day personality.

He's a pretty awkward fellow.

See the Jordan Peterson thread which lasted for like, what, 150, 200 pages? Am I remembering that right? So in that context, yeah, you have to close threads or else they would never stop being at the top of the page and annoy everyone else.
It's still going: https://www.resetera.com/threads/jordan-peterson-the-intellectual-we-deserve.30669/page-105

Though I notice the OP "requested account closure" as did the OP of this Wank Dad thread: https://www.resetera.com/threads/the-atlantic-why-the-left-is-so-afraid-of-jordan-peterson.61134/

Though the OP of this thread thankfully will not even though they are unlikely to win ERA Poster of the Year sadly: https://www.resetera.com/threads/jordan-peterson-blames-violent-men-on-women-not-marrying-them-says-enforced-monogamy-is-incel-cure.43411/

It wasn't really something I thought about until I encountered people involved in it, but looking back yeah, it's obvious.  Some of those models are cool as fuck though...I knew one dude whose railroad building was bigger than his house.

IGN just went full Kotaku. Never go full Kotaku.

https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/01/10/opinion-video-games-have-a-dead-football-player-problem

Quote
I realized I was running all these dead men around the field, people who died in an anguish that many of them could not understand, a suffering inflicted by their vocation... and my patronage. Those blips on the screen represent specific, real people whose bodies were given over to a violent sport for the sake of our entertainment and for the acquisition of profit. My heart tells me there’s something wrong with the way we’re treating sports in video games.

This would be an amazing topic for Resetera. Surprised not to find one yet. Then realize they have OT's for the NFL and College Football and have those banned.

I would imagine the author of the piece hides in a closet when they are playing Battlefield in the IGN offices.

Much like the war it was based on, Tecmo Bowl...

Also, fuck, that game came out 30 years ago, of course some players will be dead. He should fire up some Madden games and see how many dead people are in the classic and all-time teams.
