Nintendo is going to have a good E3 brehs. As long as you aren't expecting big budget EA game ____

I don't think anyone here cares about big budget EA games.

It was kind of a catch-all comment. I don't expect many if any at all huge Western 3rd party announcements, but you shouldn't really get Nintendo consoles expecting those anyway.

Then why the negativity, breh?

They have Pokemon, Smash, Fire Emblem, a new Star Fox game, and who knows what else coming up. There's no reason a Nintendo fan shouldn't be happy with what they have lined up.

It seems odd to only expect games that cater to you. Most of those games aren't for me either. But objectively speaking I don't see how you can say their E3 is going to be shit when they are unveiling a number of big titlea, even if they don't meet your personal expectations.

I think the question is whether Nintendo will have a number of core titles, or will it be another Wii Music Babby presentation. I feel it's the former.

Also RE2 surprisingly stills holds up, played it for the first time (having seen other people play it for years and knowing about it all from some nerd friend who was deep into RE) after REmake’s most recent port and it was more than fine IQ wise.

I actually think OTS is a more bold move considering the comments they made surrounding the rumors. There’s bigger potential to be had than just making another pre-rendered version of those locales, which would’ve looked considerably more awkward than 1->REmake.

I have some faith in this.

I don't think you strictly need prerendered backgrounds, nowadays it should be like old God of War or Dino Crisis with "dynamic fixed" angles. But over the shoulder shooting would make it a completely different game. Not last because you need fast zombies. There would be no challenge fighting RE2 zombies or plants with RE4 aiming freedom. I wouldn't mind more games like Revelations 2 (great), but there's no need to waste "Resident Evil 2" on it.

I dunno. I guess best case scenario for things like that and FF7 remake is that you potentially get two great (even if completely different) games from the same premise.

How do you call yourself a Nintendo stan when you can’t enjoy Fire Emblem or Metroid?  :confused

Tasty only likes the twinkiest shit Nintendo does, who could have guessed

Wii/DS ironically was like the last time Nintendo funded non-cutesy/non-pedo-animu games every once in a while, besides Bayonetta. I almost don't even want to know what Metroid Prime is gonna look like by Japanese devs. I remember getting all excited for the promised mixture of MegaTen and Fire Emblem and then that game turned out to be more creepy shit about idols.

Id buy a Switch instantly if Nintendo could catch up with 2010 standards of having a digital library of games. Microsoft of all big game comapnies is giving the most fucks about older games.  :lol

I think a big part of MS motivation to get all the good old stuff going is they don't really have anything great that's new. Nintendo having a great archive and continuously being kind of trash about having it out there and available is definitely a frustrating thing. I kind of suspect they're not calling whatever their new service is a 'virtual console' cause that was just straight up emulation and when you add online play that isn't entirely what you're doing anymore. Probably actual details on that in a few weeks but this is Nintendo so who can say really. :nintendo

I'm no industry guy, but I stopped going after E3 2000 and never cared about returning.  In 2001 I opted to go to Japan for the first time instead.

My friend: ...You don't want to go to E3?!

real talk, youngsters and shills trying to tell me that Switch had the best launch year ever because of 2 or 3 good exclusives can btfo. In Gamecube's 12 first month (EU) I could get like Metroid Prime, REmake, Wave Race, Monkey Ball, Melee and proper new IPs like Pikmin, Eternal Darkness and Luigi's Mansion. SNES is the best Nintendo console, but GCN is my favorite (despite questionable flagships like Wind Waker/Sunshine - but at least those pushed tech forward).  :bow2

GC era Nintendo was pretty cool.

GC offered some really unique games, the console was tiny and still made of Nintendium, at an acceptable price range after the initial sales bomba. Wavebird was expensive as fuck but the best wireless controller of its time, and they attempted a first very timid and doomed to fail venture into "that online and local network gaming thing" with PSO and Mario Kart. Pretty good stuff from third parties as well, at least in the beginning. Still waiting for the rest of those Capcom 6...

Also, I really liked the tiny discs. Sure, they helped doom the system to lead a life of an also-ran due to their small capacity and bandwidth issues, but they were tiny. Added an almost apple-like appeal to the thing, and seriously cut down on physical storage space requirements.

The horribly expensive and rare DTV cable though... what were they thinking. :(
And the hoops you had to jump through to make it work with some games. Cripes. Why wasn't that stuff automatic, or at least a setting in the (beautiful) UI.

Also, the ads and projected public image was very different to the Nintendo of today.

That said, I love Wii era Nintendo just as much. The software and hardware design philosophy was questionable at best (with devs publicly crying bloody tears about debugging etc, a braindead decision to hardcode internal flash memory size so it could not be extended in later revisions, no freaking digital audio for DVD playback, etc pp) but there are a whole boatload of great and unique games on that sleek slab of white plastic. No more Nintendium though, the damn thing was fragile, especially the first few batches...

No it wasn't, and if it was that's still Gamecube era.

That's like saying BOTW is still Wii U era.

No one cares about the Wii U or GC at that point.

Yup, the NSMB was the best of the NSMB series. Sin and Punishment 2 and Xenoblade are some of the best games to come out that gen, as well. Twilight Princess had the best dungeon design in a 3D Zelda. And Kirby's Epic Yarn was sooooo cuteeeee.

Bah, best Zelda was Links Awakening. Followed by ALttP/ALBW. Or maybe Minish Cap. Midna alone makes TP stand quite high on this list though. Well, gotta deduct a few points for all the yucky porn though.  :-\
SNES>GCN>Wii>NES>N64>>>>>>>WiiU
Fuxed because N64 had fewer viable games. They might or might not have been good, but the sheer size of the NES library blows it out of the water. Plus, early 3D is just  :yuck

The GC/Wii era Zeldas' biggest offense was all the han holding. I'm glad they did away with that in BOTW. Every time you opened up a treasure chest in one of those games you get a fucking dialogue box.

Now if only they could get rid of all the time-wasting animations when you enter a shrine or cook a recipe..

I dunno about that. It had some decent ports and a few alright first party games.

But it's by far the weakest of the three that generation in terms of games. And I say that as an X-box fan that thinks a lot of the first/second party output by X-box sucked that period. The only three I'd put up is DoA (since it was a looker at the time), Ninja Gaiden(:Black), and Phantom Dust (for putting real-time card-combat on the map/being innovative).

Gamecube had Melee (as much as I don't like it) Twilight Princess (despite people playing it on the successor console), RE4, and a few others.

People seriously in here trying to mitigate the turribleness of the Wii/Wii-U eras tho?

GTFO with that shit. The Wii era will always be the badge of shame for Ninthings. Your company finally won a gen again (at least the first half of it or whatever) but had to do so on the back of the shittiest gimmick and least powerful hardware relative to their competitors ever. Wii was Mario Galaxy and that's it. You don't get to live down the shame of Wii Music, brehs. That shit is forever.

Wii U is garbage as well, just not successful garbage.

The Wii seemed like it could be DS style innovation and weirdness on a home console but it was minigame hell to the point where some retailers sentout messages to publishers to not even try to solicit them with that stuff anymore. Had a few cool things on it but didn't get anywhere near its perceived potential. Also the Gamecube is better than the N64. :punch

GC had a great start but kinda died after 2 years. Still it had Metroid Prime and F-zero GX so it will always be god tier.

Wii was awesome too. It brought back a lot of Nintendo classics like Punch Out!!.
The thing with the GC and Wii was that the market was every different back then. So games like Paper Mario 2, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn were not considered as 'good' as they were.
The Wii gen can be split in two parts. The first gen software (TP, MP3, Galaxy, Brawl etc.), 10/10 god tier. Then the system entered this weird sort of limbo state, where Nintendo had seemingly not planned ahead for its success and we got a weak Animal Crossing, Wii Music and some other trash. Next up came its twilight years. Nintendo should've released a Wii HD about 3/4 years in and just continue the gravy train. But instead they dropped New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong Country and a bunch of other brilliant games like Sin & Punishment 2. The Wii got a second wind that ended with the mediocre but 'still had its moments' Skyward Sword.

Next up was Wii U. Which honestly out of the gate was pretty good. The Sonic racing game was stellar as was New Super Mario Bros. U. Compared to the Wii the third party ports like Mass Effect 3 weren't too shabby either. The first game after that though shipped about 7/8 months later when Pikmin 3 finally released (another brilliant game btw) and the system never managed to pick up steam the way it should. By the time Nintendo had the content that made it stand out (Super Mario Maker / Splatoon) it was already dead.
There were also the criminally underrated titles such as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. All in all Nintendo put a much bigger effort in supporting the 3DS instead. The Wii U played second fiddle and it showed.

For me the Switch so far feels like a mix between the GC/Wii era. You have the casual 'everyone should be able to play' things. The instant classics but also the quirky and fun experimental titles.

In terms of rating I would say:

Switch (1st gen) > Wii (1 st gen) > GC(1st gen) > Wii U(1st gen)
GC(2nd gen) > Wii (2nd gen) > Wii U(2nd gen)
Wii U(3rd gen) / Wii(3rd gen) > GC(3rd gen)

This E3 wil kinda define where Switch will land in terms of 2nd gen software.

I lived through the Gamecube era.  It was awful.  The Wii U was the redux of the Gamecube.

Some decent ports and a few alright first party games spread out over five years is a pretty rough performance overall, though.

The Wii had garbo hardware but it had quite a few hidden gems that nobody noticed until years after the fact.  A ton of shovelware though, that can't be denied.

The Wii U was utterly useless.  It might seem shameless for Nintendo to keep porting Wii U games to the Switch but since the Wii U barely made an impact, they can get away with it.

Switch so far is surprisingly impressive in terms of amount of solid content getting released.  Still waiting for that "Wii Music" moment where Nintendo decides to stop trying and just get by with minimal effort.  Here's hoping they don't do that.  Just keep porting over Wii U shit I guess if the well is getting dry.  I'll probably be dumb enough to buy these games again.

Realistically Switch is as low-effort as WiiU so far. Take away the ports and there's again been the WiiU-typical half a year without any notable exclusive releases, except for another phoned-in 2d mascot platformer (Kirby). They don't have to show much at E3 either, because their fanbase has gotten increasingly spineless. Nowadays that Wii Music conference would probably be hyped because it had the latest Animal Crossing rehash and Smash came out shortly before it :lol They also got got those unwashed Smash Bros fans covered this year, who will hype up character cameos as if real games from the borrowed IPs were announced and drown any potential negative narratives at E3.

The Switch had great new installments in the two flagship Nintendo franchises out within six-ish months of launch. That's why it has the reputation it does and has coasted on it. I mean, it *does* have better software than WiiU and weirdly enough seems to be getting more 3rd party love too, but the only games on it I feel like I have to own at this point are still Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey.

Ninthings and their opinions don't count. You don't ask an addict what their opinion of heroin is. They're gonna do it regardless. Never trust a junkie or a ninthing.
