Hayabusa would be a good one, Koei Tecmo is probably the last major Japanese publisher without any representation, the early NG games were iconic NES titles, he has a pretty distinct move set (the Art of the Fire Wheel and such).

I think Crash will probably end up being DLC, I'd like Lara as well. Them and Master Chief are probably the most iconic western game characters.

The version 4.0.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and “Challenger Pack 2” add-on, which includes Hero from the Dragon Quest series as a playable character and can be purchased individually or with the “Fighters Pass,” will launch later today, Nintendo announced.
Quote
Along with the release of Hero later today, a free software update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be available, which adds an in-game online tourney mode, a “Very Easy” setting in the single-player Adventure mode and the ability to predict the winner in Spectate mode, among other features.

If this is real, guessing it's Haohmaru (seems more likely with SS coming to Switch at the end of the year) or someone from Metal Slug.

Terry Bogard with ARE YOU OK, BUSTER WOLF

or

Tentacle alien from MS

Haomaru would be solid. As long as it isn't Kyo because Kyo is seriously boring af.

If it really is KoF instead of Haoh, Team FF done similarly to DQ hero(es) is best case maybe. I can see it being Kyo too but would rather Iori.

Yup.

Genuinely :mindblown at the amount of "who are SNK" replies to this leak.  But that seems to be a thing with the 20s and even early 30s crowd- a co-worker had no idea what Samurai Shodown was when the new one came out.

KYO

I always thought Kyo was SNK's mascot since he's the Ryu of KoF. I actually like playing as Kyo and his hold the flame super is pretty cool, but character-design-wise he's really vanilla.

But I saw in the era thread an SNK popularity poll and Terry's #1 with Kyo way down at #6. More surprising was Nakoruru was #3 and the top ranked female character, even above Mai at #4. Didn't realize Nakoruru had a following.

I'm ok with basically any SNK character outside Kyo. I mean even Iori would be fine.

They don't really have a "Ryu," but I guess Kyo is kind of close to that what with KOF eclipsing Fatal Fury and Art Of Fighting.  In most countries it's more Terry who is popular.  SNK even tried to get rid of Kyo and Iori as main characters in KOF at one point (with '99, making K' the new main), but that didn't work at all, lol.

I'm surprised that Nakoruru placed higher on a poll than Athena- she generally has been the most popular character they have up until recently, I guess.

Don’t wanna compete just want to bop those smash dorks at the local who can’t or refuse answer basic ass  questions like,”so tell me about how defense works in smash please. It starts with barrier, right? What’s the benefit of movement vs barrier and what are the limitations of barrier?”

They always look at me funny for asking a basic ass question of smash play. It’s so ducking weird.

Movement is more important than blocking but blocking is also important. Grabs beat block like in fighting games, but grabs are stubby af on most characters that don't have an obvious long range grab. Just try playing Smash lol it's pretty fun even casually.

So barrier is a block? Does it have meter or time limit?

I’ve tried playing smash but don’t have my own gc controller to play with folks.

Yeah barrier is block but it has its own hurtbox and starts shrinking the longer you block and the more it gets hit. The shield regenerates while you aren't blocking and it's pretty fast. You can control where the shield is held by holding block and using the left stick. Any part of your characters hurt box that isn't covered by the shield can still be hit; so if you shield a bunch of times and your opponent tries to hit you with a low you'll have to push down while blocking to block whatever the hitbox of their attack is.

Also in the new smash you can do a SF3 style parry, I'm not totally sure how it works but I get it a lot with negative edge from my block inputs and it's pretty easy to react to the animation and get a punish if you parry a close range move.

smash is so movement heavy and there's so many options that honestly blocking is at the end of the priority list. if you are being forced to stand still that's a problem  :lol

smash parry is you letting go of block as the attacker's move hits iirc

Learning 50 matchups is like any other game really, it would have helped you to start playing melee 20 years ago, but characters fall into archetypes so it's not as daunting as it seems. Lots of copy pasted moves and there's like 7 characters that play the same as Marth.

It’s pretty clear that SNK is trying to rebuild into former prominence between Samsho, KOF, and all the guest characters. They’re putting their brand out there and introducing their characters to a generation that likely doesn’t know who they are. SNK is serious.

SNK finally has the budget to really do stuff again after having most of their shares bought up by Leyou Millenium.  Looking forward to KOF 15! :hyper
