Yeah, but see, even using the acronym sjw is problematic in certain circles. When I just started posting on the Bire I got yelled at a lot for "using the term unironically," it was even word filtered for a long while. But now it seems that we've come to a collective understanding that just because you use the word doesn't mean you are against progress or social change/justice. It's just a scornful term for people you perceive as armchair quarterbacks, or whatnot. Not sure where I am going with this.

I just think, if we're willing to flirt with people like Zizek as Wank Dads, who certainly doesn't identify as part of the IDW, or even pals around with the IDW crowd that much, to my knowledge, then Wank Dad is a broader term than IDW-ers. I like the term Free Speech Warriors as the yang to the SJW yin myself. It works in the same way, their fight for Free Speech is a perversion, because they often seek to limit the speech/freedom of others.

the caricatures do exist though, I mean that is a real lady in that emote. However, what they (FSW) try to do is amplify the "problem" and make it seem like everyone on the other side is the caricature. That also removes any nuance from the conversation. Like either you are a wise sage of the new atheist/skeptic/freespeech/IDW movements OR you are a screeching stereotype with a pink mohawk. Like there can't be varying degrees to which you are committed to certain issues.

to answer your previous question, i agree with esch that zizek wouldn't count as wank dad material. i would classify anyone who spends more than 50% of their free time railing against "identity politics". by this metric, everyone in the IDW counts as one. as esch said, zizek flirts with some anti-idpol stuff, but he doesn't focus on it that much, and a lot of the time he does, it feels like he's just trying to be a contrarian.

for a serious answer (i'm sure someone could give you a better one), zizek is someone who knows a lot about philosophy and marxism, calls himself a marxist but apparently is like a standard new deal style liberal. he just calls himself a marxist to make him seem more controversial than he actually is. he critiques idpol but in a more substantive, helpful, and way less disdainful way than the IDW crowd does. oh and also, he was a former raccoon living in a trashcan that got turned into a human due to an evil(?) witch's spell
