I think one thing you guys are ignoring about the success of netflix - and the potential success of stadia - is that its not just the carrot of netflix being one sub, a wide variety of content within that sub without any hidden extras, and that sub works on any of the devices you already own and you can access it in any way you feel like entirely at your own conveinence.
Hosting and servicing games has a totally different cost model to it compared to movies or TV shows or music. And in any case, they don't operate against the primary platform and market first. That's the problem of Stadia and that OnLive had before. They can't affordably be the first run for the industry once the subsidies go away. Netflix isn't even close to being the primary funding method for movies or TV shows and it probably will never be without significant changes to the cost model. Companies starting their own streaming services aren't even close to daring put all their costs on it, they aren't even approaching it with serious loss leaders.

Netflix operates on top of the pre-existing development model. On their first-runs they fund it, they don't change the model.

TL;DR of the entire argument is whenever they get to streaming movies being the primary first-run market, then we can talk about games.

I agree in the sense that its content and pricing that will determine its success, not tech stuff which non nerds DGAF about, and given nothing about content or pricing has really been revealed yet...

This just makes me think something I've long suspected: Steam is being used to launder cash. That's why there are so many garbage asset flip things on Steam.
So the ResetERA.com mods are part of it?

Also it'd be way easier to launder the cash through all the crap you can buy like the trading cards. Valve even has made changes to the marketplace because it was being used like this. :lol

This meme has gone too far.

Reminds me, My brother who is in the 6th grade said that last week they had to do presentations for history class and every kid in his class said " and remember to subscribe to PewDiePie " at the end of their presentations -___-
That is scarier than an episode of Black Mirror.

‘Like and subscribe’ should be the epitaph of the 21st century.

Here's a food substitute appropriate for The Bire, that I remember the stories about through the products of the fine Frito-Lay people:
Quote
Lay's WOW Chips were fat-free potato chips produced by Frito-Lay containing Olestra. They were first introduced in 1998, and were marketed using the Lay's, Ruffles, Doritos, and Tostitos brands. Although initially popular, charting sales of $400 million in their first year, they subsequently dropped to $200 million by 2000. As Olestra caused "abdominal cramping, diarrhea, fecal incontinence ["anal leakage"], and other gastrointestinal symptoms" in some customers,[1] warnings were required to be included on the packaging, with the WOW bag bearing a warning that read, "This Product Contains Olestra. Olestra may cause abdominal cramping and loose stools. Olestra inhibits the absorption of some vitamins and other nutrients. Vitamins A, D, E, and K have been added."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olestra

Cameron gave nerds a scifi with an alien moon where 9ft tall cat people can psionically link to dragons, before flying them through floating mountains to fight gunships and mechs. The nerds - along with the rest of mainstream audiences, all went to see it multiple times.

Then it became the highest grossing film of all time and a symbol of mainstream culture, and nerds no longer wanted to be associated with it. Titanic, having been dethroned, then was welcomed with newfound appreciation after 12 years of being shat on by nerds for the same reason.

Internet dudes don't want to be lumped in with mainstream audiences.

Yeah, nerds totally don’t like being associated with hugely successful movies like Terminator 1/2 and Aliens because they’re popular  ::)

learn about GGPO and rollback based netcode dickhead
GGPO and rollback based netcode is about making competitive multiplayer fair, it does not simulate a smooth experience at all, in fact it makes it worse. Nevermind this will never happen because it would require developers to support this complicated functionality in games, especially where it's technically impossible such as multiplayer games.

Why do you insist on making things up? Do not speak to me about things you do not understand, plebeian.

Err... On what planet is rollback not smooth? Have you ever played a fighting game with decent netcode online?
