Kind of puts things into perspective when people can use the internet to be soo quick to judge a person before they're even able to answer or speak.

Why is her story or position at the company relevant? Well, if we're all going to engage in assuming someone must be a terrible person from the get go, it can end up not being that way sometimes. It doesn't mean you have to retroactively agree with her artistic intentions, but maybe hold off calling someone alt-right and some of the shit from the other topic before you even know who they are?

So the content of the ad was intended to be offensive. People who were saying that the ad was cool and empowering etc. completely missed CDPR's point. And, in fact, showed themselves to be part of the problem.

It would be if the ad had featured blatant misogyny and objectification, and women said it was offensive, and then dudebros answered "no that chick is hot, what's the problem? it's empowering!", then CDPR said "actually that ad is intended to be offensive".

As a trans person I don't agree with the art per se but I could live with the first part of her explanation because we see some of this stuff already in society today on all fronts. It would thematically track because I don't see this issue being resolved any time soon, sadly.

What I really take issue with is that Redisuk said "I honestly think we need it because we need more acceptance in the world, and we need to also show how the goodness of people is sometimes used against them."

Ads like this do not breed acceptance in any form. It contributes further towards a growing fetishism of trans people, which can be easily seen by the growing popularity of it on porn streaming services. All of it generally leads to people jerking off over us but then taking away our rights.

If the artists goal was to help usher in a wave of acceptance they are doing it wrong and claiming otherwise is disingenuous in my opinion. Pair that with previous statements made by the company via Twitter and it feels like another not so subtle jab at trans women.

I mean, there are two big issues that need to be addressed. First, that this advertisement stands alone both in terms of sexual explicitness and absurdity given the body modification. If there was a broad range of such gratuitous imagery across a spectrum of sexuality, including other absurd body modifications, it wouldn't stand out. Second, the advertisement itself depicts a modern, bigoted view of trans people. The attractive woman is the focus, her penis is only seen at second glance, and all of it framed as a joke, "Mix it up." Bigots online and in conservative politics push the idea that trans people are lying about their sexuality or trying to trick people. It's not Cyberpunk, it's not okay, to channel that discrimination. Especially for advertisements that are aimed to sell soda pop to, according to this CDPR statement, those very same gender nonconforming people.

Her reasoning does make sense for the setting. But considering how trans acceptance and whatnot is right now, I don't think it is the best choice.

I think right now if games are gonna have trans characters or images in them they should just be positive ones.

Even with that reasoning I think that there should be more positive representations of the trans community rather than negative even in a distopian world. Right now there is pretty much nothing but negativity or jokes about trans people in mainstream media and stuff like this just keeps reenforcing bad stereotypes rather than helping.

Hi, not a regular commenter in this thread, don't usually feel like I can contribute greatly to much of the discussion, but here I have to because the CDPR stuff is bthering me and reading the two threads about it made incredibly uncomfortable just to sheer amount of people dismissing trans women's worries and criticism for it, I first saw the add on Rock, Paper, Shotgun and saw it and just sighed and was happy it was pointed out in the comments there. My wish to play a positive Trans woman in games isn't going to happen is it (and as much as I like Poison from SF, the way Capcom has handled her still isn't great). I admit the thing that made me comment here (and I'm worried this is going to get me banned for saying this) was seeing a mod act dismissive to the criticism in the CDPR repsonce thread, that kind of made me feel uncomfortable knowing a mod here feels like that.

Also on the topic of boob armour, I never like combat, sport or martial arts uniforms sexualized, it just doesn't make sense to me since that's supposed to be practical first. For example, Anna and Nina Williams, for whatever reason Nina's purple stealth suit bother me more the way it's sexualized then Anna's red dress because it makes no sense to me why a combat suit would have holes in like that and just not look like it's fictional for combat.

Also last thing, I love Symmetra in Overwatch and wish we had more autsitc women in video games that I can see myself in.
