Brazil has been an independent country just shy of 200 years, the US figured out sustainable land management and forestry in less time than that. Brazil has no legitimate reason to hold the Amazon hostage for cash.

Also I think that radical solutions are needed to prevent catastrophic climate collapse. If the US lifted all restrictions on Arctic drilling and was going to completely destroy that environment I'd want a military response from other nations if all else failed.

There seems to be a lack of understanding about how just critically important the Amazon is to the habitability of the Earth. If it goes, so do most higher lifeforms. Also everyone seems to be missing the qualifier "if all else fails", intervention should literally be a last chance hail mary throw to prevent total system collapse.

Accusations are good. Maybe someone will keep an eye open and it can be proven afterwards.

Taking everyone at their word and burning everyone at the stake is the dangerous precident. Remember the times that's happened in the past and we look back on it shaking our heads?

Protested with BLM, have been involved with many liberal organizations. After all that, I see people here getting banned for not immediately joining in on the mob mentality and simply acting as a voice of reason. Rarely feel like I can have a genuine conversation here without the threat that one perceived slight becomes a ban.

ERA is home to a wide array of incredibly intelligent and thought provoking people. Yet in some ways it is far too extreme, which is partially due to the moderation. I wish it wasn't the case, as I genuinely believe this mentality actually gets in the way of the things these people want/strive for.

These threads are always contentious. A lot of posters come into them with a lot of history, despite the fact that a lot of women either never come forward or are not believed when they do. When someone does come forward with accusations of assault, we should believe them. Running in yelling "innocent until proven guilty" can feel a bit dismissive to victims of assault or harassment, so please be sensitive about this.

In this thread, a single ban was issued earlier in the day. We have reevaluated it and found that the ban given was too harsh for the content the posts contained. As such we have readjusted the length to be appropriate and have emailed said user explaining the issue with the posts in the hopes they will learn from this.

Concerning all the complaints: this site was founded on the idea that women are largely telling the truth when they come forward. There might be cases that don't pan out, where the accusations might not be true, but that is not the case in the vast majority of instances. We aren't going to be banning anyone complaining unless it really crosses a line (that said, derailing the thread to attack a team of volunteers and re-litigate your old bans instead of sending a report or contacting staff directly is really not OK), but please remember that it takes an incredible amount of courage to come forward. That those that do, can be subject to threats or harassment by fans of the accused.

Given how this thread is going, we're opting to keep it locked. If there are further developments in the case, feel free to make a new thread.

My personal run in with “Angry Joe” happened at PAX West 2017. Right after Bungie’s Destiny 2 announcement I had to use the restroom. I entered the restroom and to my surprise it was relatively empty. I entered closest stall and began my business. Well no more then a minute into being in the stall I heard someone in the stall next to yell “AYYY ITS ME ANGRY JOE!”. I don’t know if the acoustics of the bathroom played a part in it but the voice did not sound at all like Angry Joe. I ignored it and tried to finish my business. It was not until I looked up when I saw what I could only describe as overweight smiling 35 year old Mexican man looking down on me. It was Angry Joe. What happened next was something of pure horror. He began to scream “I AM ANGRY JOE” repeatably and with his two hands began to vigorously shake the stall wall that divided us. I immediately got up and ran out of the bathroom with a quickness. That experience my day at pax shitty.

I mean, the green eyes are an ANIMU thing and the character appears in this trailer with green eyebrows too before transforming or whatever.  Pretty sure the hair is yellow because she has a ramen bowl on her head and it looks like noodles.  Also, if they really want to get into it,Asians having blue or green eyes is not unheard of.
