With the exception of [USER=743019]@Nobody_Important[/USER]   , that niche community WAS NeoGAF in 2017 after the exodus to Resetera.  A lot of the folks being banned today were the only ones that stuck around and supported both Evilore and GAF after the proverbial knife was plunged into Evilore‘s back.

It is not hyperbole to say that without the thousands of posts by many of these users and yes Evilore refusing to give up, that the site would not be where it is today traffic wise.  The “free speech” credo and loose moderation of speech initially embraced by the site is a large part of its success.   Why do you think so many people are returning from totalitarian ree?

 Evilore owes all those people a debt of gratitude not bans.  Those are the people that stood up FOR HIM, fought FOR HIM, defended HIS REPUTATION, and defended HIS BUSINESS, when everyone else fled to Resetera and GAF was a pariah forum.

I get the fear of deplatforming.   I even understand the demand of site redirection but the scorched earth bannings of the very people that kept this site alive with activity in the Dark Times is a bitter pill to swallow.

They deserved to be handled with a gentler hand, if at least in recognition that they supported and fought for your reputation, site and business Evilore, when nobody else would. 

I think I’m going to take a break from GAF if this post doesn’t lead to a perm.   I’m really sad about all of this.

I’d have to go back in my posts but I did say earlier in the thread I get why the new rules are in place, to avoid deplatforming.  I just felt that a lot of those posters supported this site at its darkest time.   It sure wasnt reee defending GAF as they posted porn on the way out.

Kept.  It was off topic at the time and yes the regulars from both sections kept it alive.  Obviously not now, but initially after the Resetera exodus?   Absolutely.

You are delusional. The main reason we even had a politics subsection created was because most of the remaining community at the time were sick and tired of the same handful of people constantly trying to bring up politics every chance they got.

The political group you think were the ones “keeping GAF alive” were an annoying small group that the greater forum wanted quarantined in their own small section. Gaming has and always will be the reason GAF is still around.

Right after the reee stuff happened there was barely anyone left in gaming in terms of activity.  I remember because a group of us in off topic were encouraging each other to post more in gaming just to get activity up.  We were really worried about how slow it was, although it did give gaming a new flavor in terms of savouring topics.

I can’t say how many posters were in each section, there was overlap, but the gaming side seemed to suffer the most initially.

Gaming side was by far the most active after the 2017 drama.

I’m remembering it wrong then.   Or maybe just how it felt.

Liberty, I strongly suggest you unplug yourself from following politics on the internet and find other ways to occupy your free time, for your sake. I am not radicalized, different political opinions are just that - different. I do think though I need a break from GAF though to clear my head from the last few months of drama.   Also a solid break of old and new.

I come to appeal for the revoke of the permabans of Crypto and JordanN to a few months ban. I think perma is too harsh for those users who have provided good content throughout last year (even if I don't agree with their views). Please consider the current times in which both of these bans happened: After an election where the preferred candidate of these users lost, after Capitol disaster and close to the application of the new rules to the Politics subforum. Due to the context, emotions are on edge and the new rules of the subforum haven't been long enough to have a clear clarification of what can be considered conspiracy and what not, especially considering the previous culture of the subforum.

So I think that a few months ban would be much better since the controversial times we are going through will be long gone, as well as the conspiracies that come with it. Both users were great contributors to the forum in general (see their posts in Off-Topic and Gaming Section), and I consider it especially unjust when someone like Schrodinger's Cat gets a temporary ban, who was a user that only posted in the Politics subforum with the explicit aim (he said so himself) to antagonize people and never debate the topics at hand. If anything it should be the other way around, with JordanN and Crypto getting temp and SC getting the permaban.
