Over the last few months I've been watching YT clips of Stephen Colbert. I now understand why every "political/social expert" on Ree is unbearable. I would not be at all surprised if Finale Fireworker sits in his sordid grief hole every night acting out Colbert's monologues Rupert Pupkin style.
Its more the John Oliver myopia.
"Yes, Joe Biden has been accused of rape... and that's bad... but we really need to talk about this random town in Ohio's water treatment plant."
John Oliver is the soy face of comedy with a gimmick that got stale 2 decades ago.
"You are not going to believe this but the property tax rate in the state of Texas is actually higher than that of New York so if Ted Cruz wants lower taxes he should just leave Texas *song about Ted cruz leaving Texas with details about the flight plan, seating arrangement and you know animated tax return forms because this is 'comedy'* and of course DRUMF will have to return to NY from Florida HAHAHAHAHAHA HOHOHOHOHO"
And Colbert went from top tier comedy to a d-list sad clown. Bill Maher without an audience was just sad, I think he genuinely went insane.
This was perfectly predicted by Norm Macdonald who famously said 4 years ago: "Trump is a great comedian but he's bad for comedy"
I wonder how the "comedians" are going to reinvent themselves over the next couple of months when they lose their biggest (and in some cases only) source of material.
